Eaglets eating together. Video 3. June 6, 2024

Eagle/Eaglets observations.…
. Over the last week Ellie brought in the majority of the food.
. Much pre-flight behaviour. Building muscles by flapping wings, getting some air and hopping around nest pouncing on objects.
. Vic and Sid are able to eat independently with Ellie dropping off food and not always sticking around to feed them. Not a surprise as it teaches them to do this on their own.
. Vic displaying more aggression towards Ellie when she drops off food. Not always, but it seems to happen if the supply of food has been sparse during the day.
. Surprisingly I have now noticed Vic feeding Sid twice in the last couple of days! AND … I was able to record Vic allowing Sid to feed beside each other.🤔 I think that once Vic’s stomach has been satisfied it’s okay to let Sid feed. The pecking order is apparent.
. Ellie is always around perching on various branches on some of the other fir trees 🌲. Always in sight of the nest.
Videos from earlier this morning …
1. Ellie arrives with a small questionable piece of meat. Sid grabs it first but Vic quickly asserts dominance and takes it away. Vic again displays aggressive behaviour towards Ellie. Ellie says “I am out of here”. Interestingly Ellie does not display any outward defensive behaviour. Perhaps it’s normal behaviour that she expects.
2. Eddy shows up less than an hour after Ellie with another meal but the behaviour of the eaglets is totally different. They don’t pounce on it but rather hang their heads down low, almost like cowering. It’s almost like he’s giving them a good talking to. This goes on for well over 4 minutes. He leaves and only then do they start to eat.
3. As they start to eat they share! No aggressive possession- just taking their time TOGETHER.

I read your comments and find that it is normal for hungry chicks to be more aggressive over food and the moms do take it in stride, glad to hear Eddy is providing good meals as well, this is a strong pair of eagles💕💕❤️
