With a lot of buzz this season around the Philadelphia Eagles team to not only win the NFC East this season but make a Super Bowl run, Cornerback Darius Slay welcomes the pressure and says the team is ready to make a run this year.
From Juco to 4x Pro-Bowler, Philly's cornerback Darius Slay, joins The
Pivot to talk about the Eagles this season, personal goals of legacy and hall of fame and how being a young father shaped the man he is today.
At the age of 13 years old, Darius' mother gave birth to him and he was raised mostly by his grandma but extremely close with his mother throughout his life to this day. Darius, a young father himself, expresses how his upbringing of community and love taught him the importance of how it takes a village to raise a child and helped him transition into being a father. Darius opens up to the guys that without his son, he wouldn't be where he is today because becoming a young father served as motivation and helped change his course from getting in trouble, jail time to hearing his name called in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
As the conversation moves toward football, Darius talks about how making it to the NFL gave him the opportunity to right the wrongs of some of his off the field troubles and the resources to help give back to the community that raised him and that taught him about life. Ryan asks how he feels about the NFC East rival losing Dak Prescott early and how it affects their mindset in the division. Darius, who is friends with the Cowboys quarterback from college days, hates to see a team lose its heartbeat but also is disappointed since he misses his chance to pick his old friend off this year.
Ranking as one of the most elite cornerbacks in the league, Darius talks about his journey from Detroit to Philadelphia and how it hasn't always been smooth but hoping that strong leadership helps lead his current team on a path to a championship. Impressed by Quarterback Jalen Hurts and his transcension to the Eagles leader, Darius thinks that Jalen is the one who can keep the offense firing this year and Darius says the defense is ready to match the offensive efforts. Darius feels the team has all the pieces in place to be a super bowl contender and gets goosebumps thinking about the team's potential.
Ahead of Monday Night's Matchup against Minnesota, Darius knows he has his work cut out for him facing off against one of the NFL's top wide receiver in Justin Jefferson- Darius says Jefferson is the 2nd best receiver in the league to Devante Adams and that he respects the explosiveness of his game. "I get paid millions of dollars to play a kid game, and I love it".

@@E3litecompany A smaller market doesn't really mean much if you have skills. Everyone knew who Calvin Johnson was in the "small" Detroit market. But Slay went to the Pro Bowl 3 times in Detroit, AND he was 1st team All Pro in Detroit. So I'd say that he did get the respect that he deserved when he was with the Lions. In all, he went to 4 Pro Bowls and made a 1st team and a 2nd team. You can't have that type of career and be called under-rated.
Major props to Darius Slay mom gave birth to him at 13, he himself had a child at 15 and still managed to make it to the league. Another awesome interview fellas 👏🏾👏🏾

Getting Slay from the Lions was such a huge move. Came on the heels of losing out on the bidding war for Byron Jones who signed with Miami. Just 3 days later Howie makes the deal with Detroit to bring him over for a 3rd and 5th round pick. He's been such a great teammate since he came to Philly. Was really happy to see him get the captain patch for the first time in his career. Despite the love he gets from his peers I still think he's one of the most underrated at his position by the general public.

It because Matt Patrica was being a dickhead, think he insinuated Slay wasn't elite after he led the league in INTs and was the 1st or 2nd ranked PFF CB. Player's almost had a mutiny because of it.

This dude's can't miss! I'm a father of 3 (by the same woman) but to do it so young, I admire that he acknowledged the help he had! This message gives hope to those that listened to it! Much respect and props.
PIVOT FOR THE WIN!!!!! Great job. I am so thankful for the podcast. Ryan, Channing, and Fred knocked it out the park. So nice to hear a different side of Mr Slay.
Football aside, I hope young cats 16-25 are watching and more importantly, listening to this dude's trials and growth instead of the usual Pivot we hear about. It ain't gotta be football or sports at all, just find something to turn to that won't put you in an early grave or locked away for eons. Another great interview, can't wait for the next one.
Great interview. A grandmother at 28ish. Salute to him and his family. Not the most ideal circumstances, and they say it takes a village. It seems that village was well connected for the betterment of his mother and his child
🤣🤣🤣 I can always count on Chan. My mouth done been in worse places 🤣🤣🤣! All you fella's are the best
HES ONE OF THE BEST IN THE LEAGUE
If Slay wasn't an all-pro cornerback, he could've easily been a comedian. His timing is unreal.

Say that again bc im from there n getting out there being an actress wasnt a easy feat. Proud of Slay❤
D Slay is all time no debate. Glad he got to Philly 🦅🙏🏽
I like that he says his dad helped too. It means that even though his mom and dad started early…they tried STILL to pour love into this child. That’s a challenge in and of itself. With the support of grandma many could’ve walked away and just handed him off. But they ALL contributed. And now he’s a grown man taking care of the family ten fold.
Slay is your me of the nicest dudes you’ll ever meet. Just one of those guys that’s happy to be alive and doesn’t take anything too seriously.
CB1 🦅 glad he’s getting his recognition I see he’s making a media run love it
OMG!! Thanks to Jalen, I’m a huge Eagles fan. Slay is by far my favorite player on the team! I literally screamed today when I saw he was the guest on here. I didn’t know any of that about his personal life. He has a serious testimony. Kudos to y’all for this interview. He’s such a positive dude. You gotta love Slay!

Like Slay man! Life can be hard in some of these neighborhoods but when you have love, family and reverence for God you can turn out good like Slay.👏🏼
I'm here after Week 2, he locked Jefferson down, picked off 2 passes directed at Jefferson. Mans top 3 CB in the league hands down
As sad as it was I'm sooooo glad I am athlete broke up. Cause this podcast here is freakin gold. I'm a cowboys fan now I'm a big fan of D. Slay. They make you love the guests they bring on. Whether you rooted against them or not.
Did anyone else come back here after a stellar game by SLAY?! 2 picks ! Good game bro bro!!!!!
Wild man CHAN . That boy is special . Got me a good laugh in today 😂
After yesterday's game...I must say....BIG PLAY SLAY TALKED HIS TALK AND WALKED THE WALK!!! He completely locked up Jefferson and had 5 passes defensed and two picks that's a complete game from you young man!!! 👏

He gone get the true recognition he deserve this year, can’t deny his greatness after an All Pro year and Ring ❤️🙏🏽🙌🏽
I would like to see an interview with Cynthia Cooper. Greatest WNBA player to lace'em up. To see how's she is doing, how she feels about the WNBA today, and also what was the feeling like when the Houston Comets no longer part of the league. Also much love and respect for the show. So much for people to learn and take away from and use in their own life.
These interviews make the season way more interesting because you guys giving us the players point of view and perspective of the game week in and week out.
The episode was awesome fellas, I love the show overall. I think Jameis Winston would be a really interesting guest if y’all could get a hold of him. He’s been through a lot of ups and downs throughout his football career, and I feel like he’d have a lot to say.

I think Slay is one of the most underrated corners in the NFL. Im so glad we got him from the lions that was a blessing. Such a good man and football player I hope he ends his career here with the Eagles.
