Thank you for the tutorial. i just did this now and the hardest part was to put back the molding . The part where you mention you had to do both sides first then meet in the middle was such an important part. otherwise one of the sides wont fully flushed in.

My tale of woe (sorta)... Got the moulding and rather than tackle it myself, checked with a local auto glass shop to see if they would do it. (06 330i) No problem, they said. Well, the tech wasn't careful enough and cracked the windshield at the top driver side corner. Owner reviewed video of the work and said it must have happened when tech pulled old moulding straight up out of the channel. Owner took responsibility for it and replaced the windshield at no charge. Kudos to them for standing behind their work. Word to the wise for those that do it themselves - be very careful and gentle both removing the old and installing the new to not put any sharp pressure on the edge of the glass. If you have someone else do it, take photos from the inside to document condition of the glass before the work and get a signed agreement on who's responsible if the windshield is cracked. I was lucky.

Nice video. Just did my 2010 535i. PRO-TIP: Use a wooden rolling pin to perfectly flatten the strip both BEFORE you remove adhesive and AFTER. You can't get much better than that...

Amazing tip using the rolling pin. I couldn’t get mine in flat and started to question if I ordered the right part. Rolling pin did the trick. THANK YOU!

It actually took me longer to watch the video than it did to remove the old seal. I cleaned the old adhesive off with rubbing alcohol and a rag, and vacuumed the channel. Reinstalling the strip took a little longer for me to press it in because I'm a perfectionist and wanted it to be seated well. Thanks for the tip about putting the ends in first! It looks awesome and I saved $$....yeaaay! :)

Great video. Much easier to pry to metal spine starting at the end. Basically the reverse of the installation process. Small flathead screwdriver prying toward the back of the car and away from the glass. Pops that corner free and the whole things slides right out, Appears with the picking tool you either had to break or cut the spine and then yank on the pieces, Also, try using a 1" plastic putty knife to to peel away the old rubber. works great.

The best method for doing this especially using a screw driver to get the tracks to seat after the ends are in place.

What about using black weather proof Caulking?.. Once everything is cleaned out, Run a smooth bead. only $3 at home depot...it would probably seal it up for just as long if not longer. Just a thought?

I did these yesterday with the same parts on the link from amazon its hard to get the new part in to the edge of the windshield i manage to put them but there us some section that didnt sit flush in front of the driver side and on the end now i got to redo it i did scrape the side where the adhesives goes into from pushing it into that windshield with the screw driver tip i guess the gap between the windshield and the surface where the double sided tip lays into didnt have enough gap so i have to muscle that thing to tuck it in into that windshield

My E90 has a gap between top edge of seal and the body. There looks like there has been a double sided strip there but it has lost its adhesive. Is a sealant required to keep seal stuck to body ?

Almost every video I see, the replacement weatherstrip has that adhesive. I have yet to find a store near me that has that adhesive strip, so I don't know what I am doing wrong. I bought one online, but it came and it doesn't have it either.

Lighting needs to be better to clearly see the install. A little more time spent in what the underside of the strip looks like would also be a plus since they can vary in style. Where did you purchase yours? The amazon link is gone from your post. I bought one from Amazon and it was a nightmare getting it on. The C channel is SO small it was impossible to pop it into place. You do a great job explaining the install just need a little more detail. I have a 2006 325i and need a better product than what I got. Thanks!

Do these all contain a metal C channel spine on the end of the windshield? The new part I bought doesn’t contain it so I’m wondering if I happened to buy the wrong part.. even though it’s exactly line the one shown above.

Any that can HELP please do. 3rd glass place I went to it did not matter to them that I would pay them what they wanted to do this work on my 2000 Pontiac grand am GT. They said even with the 2 sided tape the molding would look like crap wavy in areas bumpy in areas. So what's the truth. How DOES THIS REALLY TURN OUT LOOKING LIKE. I am even thinking as you go to put in new molding that more fresh sealant should be put in. This filling in any possible gaps and adding to the strength to hold molding IN and DOWN FLAT.

I went to 2 glass place both wanted to remove my perfectly good like new and was new yrs ago and couldn't guarantee my windshield wouldn't break $250 cdn. Not sure/don't think that would include another windshield. Other said they would not do it like these you tube videos as it was not a proper job. And said when you remove the old strip it would leave bare metal scratched areas later to rust. But I am thinking old molding C-Channel was coated cover in rubber and with the factory caulking in with it how would it leave scratches / bare metal areas to rust. By the way of all these videos no one put more caulking back in then out new molding in. WHY. and for my 2000 Pontiac grand am GT the factory molding does not have 2 side sticky tape so thinking definitely would need caulking put back it. It does have that same C-channel design. Everyones input please

Be very careful when prying out the old strip! A metal screwdriver can crack and destroy your windshield if you nick the edge of the glass.

BMW window seals last about 3-4 years before they begin to crack. Honda Acura window seals = never. There must be a lot of unplanned children in Germany due the their rubber failures ; )
