E8 - Reese McGuire Ejected After Jeremie Rehak's Strike 3 Call in 9th and Hot Mic Captures Why

Спорт

HP Umpire Jeremie Rehak ejected Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire for arguing a strike three call in the bottom of the 9th inning vs Baltimore (the Orioles ultimately won 9-4 in extras). This time, we have audio of what the ejected player said prior to getting tossed. Report: www.closecallsports.com/2024/...

I give the broadcasters credit for listening to the audio after strike three and then correcting their analysis of it “being a quick hook” but…there are only 76 people who serve as full time umpires at the MLB level. If they eject someone “quickly” (whatever that means…) it’s because the person said or did something that is immediately ejectable. So rather than defaulting to “Oh, that’s a quick hook there…” why not default to, “Well, you can’t say what he said there and expect to stay in the game…”

Is the technology sufficiently developed to show the expected call + data in real-time, to give the viewing audience (+broadcasters and managers) more information to confirm/refute what they see on the visualizer?

The ejection is legit. However the pitch that had Boston upset was ball 4 to Mullins in the previous half. Orioles caught a break on that pitch (and I'm an Orioles fan). After Mullins walked on what looked like strike 3, Boston was upset at every borderline pitch for the remainder of the game.

Really dumb ejection by the player. He was the night's catcher and the other catcher had been used as a PH then moved to 2nd and i think the Red Sox were out of position players at the time of the ejection. Turned out it didn't really matter because the Orioles scored 6(?) in the top of the 10th and put the game away.

No issues with this ejection at all as a Red Sox fan. Lindsay, I hate to mention Angel Hernandez again, but the Langford at bat last night in the Rangers-Astros game needs to be looked at. If you trust the box, Hernandez called three outside pitches strikes. Can you do a deep dive to see if they really were outside. I am actually shocked no one got ejected over it.

Could a pitch clock violation be called if the pitcher misses the catcher’s glove when throwing the ball back to the catcher during an at-bat

I think you mean if the *catcher* misses the *pitchers* glove when he's throwing the ball back to him after a pitch..? And then the pitcher has to go pick up the ball, which causes a clock violation..? If that's what you're asking the answer is "no". The pitch clock doesn't restart after a pitch until the pitcher has recieved the ball back and stepped back on the mound. If that's not what you meant...then idk what you meant 😂 A pitcher throwing the ball to the catcher is called a pitch...and if he misses his glove, it's called a wild pitch. And the pitch clock wouldn't be an issue...because the pitch has already been thrown.
