E365: Mental Health Week 2024 Me, You And RC. How Do You Cope?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Published: 13/05/24
A subject close to my heart with being a long time sufferer of Depression and Anxiety. This week is mental health awareness week in the UK, so it’s only fitting I share some of my experiences in the hope it may help others. If it only helps one person then it’s been well worth making the video.
Take care, and remember there’s help out there and you’re not alone.

I therapy is my hobbies. I have been jumping from one or another for ever. I have always had some sort of hobby to keep me focused on something fun and positive. It wasn't until YT that I hyper focused on any one of them but I am very glad I ended up doing it all as I have gained a ton of good friends and this hobby is one of the most supportive out there. I do my very best to help out and chat with everyone but there are the core crew that I love interacting with all the time. It can be easy to slide into a slump and have to work yourself back out of it. If you or anyone ever needs to just talk about stuff I am always available through email! Take care my friend and you better keep up the driving game or those kids are going to grow up very quick and be lapping you on the track if you don't stay in practice! LOL!

Great video and I can relate to alot of it as a person suffering. The bit about ignoring phones and hiding from people you know I can especially relate. Keep up the good work.

Yeah that’s a big thing for me as well. Even last night I was at the model shop for a meet and it was pretty busy. When I wasn’t talking cars I instantly felt awkward and self conscious

Hi Andy, well done for doing this video fella. Just wanted you to know that I'm watching and always here if you need a chat, like me (I like being in my bubble too) but sometimes it's good to have and ear. I know how it is with keeping up with all the comments! Take care mate.

ABSOLUTLY FANTASTIC ANDY. I had my first breakdown in my mid 20s. The doctor tried me with loads of different tablets. ( i am nw 62 ) Took my self off meds. Kicked my own arse and went back to work. Then in 2018 i started going down the slippery slope. Last december my brain shut down. 3 months of TALKING THERAPIES later i am back at work. What you have said is a mirror image of myself. My saving grace was when my grandaughter was born .She is now 2 and a half, she loves my rc collection. She is good on throttle but not on steering. ( it keeps me busy re building ) KEEP WELL AND MENTALLY SAFE.😅

Andy, I was hung on every word. I have so much to say that I think I need to write you a letter. You are brave, honourable and have so much strength achieving many things. I often wonder how you do it all and I would like you to give yourself a pat in the back from me please. I will be in touch and I had thought about calling you but perhaps a letter I take my time with would be better so you can choose when to read it and I seriously put no pressure on a response but I need to share some things with you in the hope I can support you.

I’m new to the hobby. Last weekend I was having an indoor blast with my son and some mates. I realised it was the first time in a long time that I was smiling and laughing.

Thanks for this video. Even though at times some kits are frustrating (orbital E-Clips, transmission builds) building is still therapeutic. For me personally it’s been anxiety and a relatively short fuse. I also recently lost my wife after an almost 10yr battle with cancer. I’m now trying to make sense of my teenage kids and what they are thinking. We are managing and currently I’m just trying to make sense of all

Top video. Reminds me of what I am dealing with. Rc always makes me feel better. Just wish the Rc market was better in Australia but I think tamiya almost forgot about us down here. Example the 2024/2025 Rc katalog not released here.

You are talking about growing pains in truth Andy well some of it! Since l hit 50 my head has imploded it seems! I am a hermit too well my wife too and we are cool with that! We have friends but love our own bubble!and don't worry about that Andy its normal in my view as too many people are over confident and full of it these days even though its generally not real! The battle with the mind is a life time war l am sure of that but help is there and talk to our wives we don't have to be the big man anymore!😉 The hobby helps massively but yeah it can cause more problems if it puts stress on finances! Bloody tamiya don't help us old boys releasing all these favourites of ours all the time! But with restraint its a very positive hobby with a lot of like minded people in it! Chin up mate l was bad a while ago but got to a lvl now l am happy with! and that will do! We all don't know what the future will bring and that scares the crap out of me and if anyone has half a brain it should do the same to them! Positive energy is definitely for the presence and the now! Try not to look forward has helped me loads and just deal with the day we are in. I admit its not easy but like l said has definitely helped me! You vids are fine buddy you come across as normal....hope that's a good thing 😉 Good to talk though and its a topic that should not be overlooked! Cheers James ✌️

Got me right in the feels on this one Andy I can absolutely relate with nearly everything you talked about aside from the being competitive at racing since I don’t race 😂 - every single day is a struggle but damn if there aren’t a lot of good reasons to be alive despite all the bad ones - I’ll admit as well you just about can’t pay me to talk to anyone on the phone nowadays and I wish I weren’t that way - hang in there buddy we love you even over here in Texas ☺️

Mental health is a big thing with men because of how men should be the front not cry or show emotions which is wrong and its good now that it is recognised now that we all need to show emotions talk to people but the number 1 priority is maintaining yourself now this is gunna sound strange but i was once told if you dont love yourself youll always suffer great video andy you always do great videos keep them up

I realized in hindsight that I stabilized my psyche during the pandemic by buying RC toy cars that I had as a kid in the 90's and converting them to 2,4Ghz 😊 Getting a blast from the past was really magical a few times 😇 Smelling the tires I literally smelled the 90's...🥹 I am most probably autistic and the RC hobby has been a thread throughout my whole adult life which gave me something to do and to enjoy on a regular basis. I struggled with loneliness and exhaustion a bit in the past, I guess. But on the other hand: Being alone for prolonged periods of time is my main asset, too. Thank God that this global hysteria is over now 🙏
