So crazy watching this in 2013... the quality of these press conferences is leaps and bounds worse than now.. But I do prefer how in depth the explaination was here!

Blu Ray did become the dominant optical HD format. The story of the PS3 is filled with failure and success both, but in the end I think is a story of progress, inovation, that tought Sony a lot, and that in the end we can say, the PS3 is a great gaming system.

InabaPrism It’s unquestionably a great electronic media device. I love it dearly to this day and play my launch day 60GB model (still running like a champ)whenever I’m not on my PS4 Pro.

The Cell Processor...it will remain in history as the worst nightmare for developers

The backwards compat. wasnt a lie, early PS3s could play PS1 and PS2 games.

Yeah me too, I got a UK PS3 60GB launch model. Sony screwed our model over, we did not have the EE processor, just the PS2 graphics chip. So our PS3's could only do about 80% or so games perfectly but some great games like Ratchet and Clank would not run well at all. Our PS3 60GB would later become the USA's PS3 80GB. If you dont mind me asking, what PSU did you use?

APS-227 (EU PSU) I live in Hungary, so i know that CECHCXX model... :) Now my PS3 work with CFW, because the default fan speed is = Harakiri Mode. Too slow for the PS3. I Run Crysis on PS3, and the degress was 76 for the CPU and 80 for the GPU. I set manual fan spedd (50%), and the temperature look like this: CPU 62, GPU 65. I think i saved this PS3. :)

Thanks for posting this. This is still my favorite Sony e3 conference. I love tech demos and I hope there's a ton of tech demos when they reveal the PS4. Most people will probably hate it though.

This was the first ever E3 conference I watched and I haven't missed one since.

The old iteration of the store before this new one ran perfect and was very smooth. When they updated it to match the ps4 version is when it got sucky.

The constant updates over the years have made the console run like crap. It was quite a snappy machine the first few years of its life cycle.

Wow, you really see how much Sony's presentations have advanced over the years when you see this after the PS4 conference.

Hopefully with the PS5 next year they start resurrecting these long lost games like Agent, Killing Day, Eight Days, Code Arms Assault and The Getaway 3. Make it happen Sony!

Ken Kutaragi, what a legend!

Both Sony and MS have stated that PS3 and 360 will recive very strong support AT LEAST until 2015.

Really impressed by how the console is still able to push the graphics, and power of the box. Now almost a decade later with the ps4, who knows how far it'll go this time around.

Who would have thought that one game Ni-Oh shown in the montage is now an upcoming PS4 title 11 years later.

mast3rsword64 look at the gameplay on KZ:SF, NOT CGI Cutscenes. E3 2005 version just looks much better. Looks at the way the troops move.

the ps2 emotion engine was only partially 128-bit, it had a 128-bit SIMD but a 64-bit core.

Cosmo_Plays Cell was 64 bit to same with AMD Jaguar and Polorais PS4 Pro.

2 weeks until e3 2017, can't believe this is 12 years old.

I can't believe this conference was 8 years ago...

So nostalgic!

Crazy how all these years later we know what was true and what was hype. PS3 memory architecture: nightmare. RSX: hype (360 GPU outperformed RSX) Cell: fantastic idea poorly implemented, but actually true.

+Justin Goretoy PS3 was a Frankenstein's monster of a sorts. The RSX was added when Sony realized that the Cell BE was inadequate for the entire graphics pipeline. The 256 MB of XDR simply wasn't enough to get the most out of the system, and going 512 MB of XDR was just too expensive. GDDR3 was cheaper and as direct access VRAM for the GPU and it's ROPs, it would be lower latency and cheaper than having more XDR. Jesus Christ Sony you dun goof'd

***** To a fair degree, absolutely, but developers are still pushing the PS4 and Xbone too hard. Also, some people were disappointed that both consoles, even the PS4, are not as powerful as it should've been. That will be fixed with the rumored mid-gen refreshes like PS4 Neo, but the rumored increase in x86 core clock speeds won't be enough by a long shot to get 60 FPS for every game out there.

Fight Night Round 3 was my first PS3 game.

It actually looks really sexy even now. It's design was really badass.

This is hilarious. They spent half of their press conference talking about a system they knew was never going to launch in spring 2006, it was always Fall of 2006. They did this to try and dull the momentum the 360 had by launching in 05.

When they got to the games, the system shinned!

Some of these things still haven't been done to this day and would be revolutionary!

Pretty much everything in this Presentation has been realized on PS3. Makes me salivate over the PS4 meeting Presentation.

1080p will be standard this coming gen but not 60fps.Devs will pick visuals over Fps.

I know that. It runs in 600p. That's why I said "although not native." Even if the GAME ITSELF isn't 1080p, the PS3 TECHNICALLY still outputs a 1080p image.

Sony’s PlayStation has always been about pushing the limits of linnovation; thus, I’m a loyal customer to this day.

God not even half of the features and tech they mention here even made it to the final hardware. They wouldn't get away with that now.

Those are upscaled resolutions (well, some of them). The only native 1080p PS3 games I know of are GT5 and God of War 3.

wow what ever happened to most of the games shown at the end of this press conference, ni-oh, eyedentify, fifth phantom saga, killing day? only heavenly sword, warhawk and motorstorm was released, that's ridiculous.

I find it funny that nobody complained when it was mentioned @48:34 that "PS3 is an always on, always connected device".

yeah your point is I was just telling him the games he said are 1080p and only one he was right about is killzone I wasn't nameing every game with 1080p.

If you are talking about PS2 games, you are right. But as far as I know, all PS3 slim models can play PS1 disks. I bought a PS3 Slim 320GB in 2012 (I don't mean the newest Super Slim model), and I can play any PS1 game on it.

Ps2 press conference NEXT!

I wish that, before the PS4 will be anounced, some game developer comes up with a game that actually uses the full capacity of the PS3 hardware. Most games now still don't use the SPE's just because developers are too lazy to learn how to program a game around the architecture of the PS3. If games would have been made to work properly on the PS3, it would have become clear pretty fast that the Xbox 360 isn't as powerfull as the PS3. Sadly, almost no games have been made to prove this. :(

Yeah, its a shame... They don't even provide all Ps1 and Ps2 Games in the Ps-Store, just a few are available there.

The hardware was amazing for the time and still is, but it couldn't be used the may it was meant to be used.
