Point to note with smart switch: Even when relatives come to your house, don't share normal wifi password. Create a guest ID for them, it can be easily done. It is different SSId for relatives with different password from the same router. This way they can't control your electronics without your permission.

For Home Automation it's better to go with a relay switch or sensors which support Zigbee or Zwave protocol.It requires a hub .Advantage is that you don't need internet and you can create a mesh network without multiple wifi repeaters.

If you want relaiable operation of these switches, we have to customize them or fully redesign. First issue is the voltage fluctuation. These devices has very basic design to get 12V/5V DC directly from 230V AC. It is very fragile. Next issue is, these devices dont have internal Real Time Clock. So when the device restsrted and if the internet is not there, it cant get timing information. Abother issue is, inductive lods like motors, ACs need a special but simple circuit named snubber to protect the relay contacts. None of these devices has snubber circuits. Most of these devices has servers running in China. These devices must have local server running. For example Shelly devices are doing this. This is needed if you consider security These devices are not manufutured to specific application. For example if you have 8 Switches in a box and automate them, you will need minimum 4 numbers of 4 module switch. So they have 4 power supplies, 4 wifi signals. Because of that probablity of failure increses. Actually a single powersupply with single Wifi Micro controller can control more than 8 relays easily. So if we disign custom hardware it will be the most relaible and cheap too

I am using homemate and smartifi switch for last two years. Till now it's working good. So for so good...

You should have run ethernet cable during wiring, and use a switch that can connect via LAN. A centralized server with relay can toggle when switch notifies. Also you can connect multiple access points to same ethernet as needed for wifi, and you can power your CCTV cameras with POE. Can consider optical cables if you need super high speed bandwidth for LAN.

The module switch which you showed is good but the best is to use a local server-based Tasmoto software, but the other relay-controlled box you showed is a little costlier and a waste of wire which can be simplified, Also add all the switches to Alexa it is easier

True that! But information regarding Tasmota is almost nil in Tamil language. Further Tasmota supported devices are few and also flashing with pins is a trouble.

@@littleevilpro Yeah. Zigbee is better in performance and also value for money unlike Zwave. But it's unfortunate that affordable Zigbee brands are non existent in India. Xiaomi and Aqara are the brands I use. Again, availability is another issue.

@@littleevilpro yes zigbee devices are good to form a mesh network, but the issue is that it works with single master if you had a issue with the master device need reconfiguration in all of its slave devices, And other thing is each zigbee brand device use different protocol format so we can't connect different brand devices to a single zigbee hub or Gateway. But zigbee has advantage of low powered devices so it can be used in wireless sensor network. Like door sensor, outside and indoor temperature sensors etc.

Only "need" should drive Automation. Unfortunately, Automation is seen as some hi-tech technology and is approached as fancy show off tool without much purpose!!. If home automation amounts to just turning on bunch of switches using mobile then the wiring, relays, data server, wifi receivers , schedulers , apps etc...etc are nothing but an overkill on a misused technology. Its not going to take much time to realize that the good old manual switch is what was actually needed.

Go with Legrand/Anchor (Top end model) branded switches for longer shelf life. Its costly at same time.

Those also giving issue after an year I have both GM and Legrand in my home both or of same quality, I don't know about anchor but when we select switch we not find a better looking switch in that brand

Hello Sir, thank you for sharing this intestng video. I am using lot of such smart switched from Shelly, Sonoff, TATA EZ and TAPO. I have used these switched to control my portico lighting and Drip Irigation system for my smail garden. As you siad these devices are fried at over voltage. None of these devices has internal Real Time Clock (RTC) with battery back-up. They get the time information from Internet. After i get information about time, if you disconnect internet, these devices will work beacuse of the earlier time information it got. But if the device is also restarted, time information will be lost. Same issue is present in Sonoff devices too. One more infomation: there are lot of devices which measures power and Energy utilization also. In devices like Sonoff, Shelly we can trigger the events with scenes, meaning, we can turn on lights at Sunset (Evening) and Turn off lights at Sun rise (Morning) at portico. I have used this device to control 230V water valve for drip irrigation. I am setteled in Germany. During Christmass vacation I will come to India, if possible and if you wish we can meet. All brand smart switches will through there own IOT platform, so if internet fails it will not able to control by mobile. So I made own smart devices for home to control light , water motor pump on/off, smart heater ( smart heater automatically heats only if excess production in solar power). It's all run through my lan control with raspberry server & it's control by mobile through lan in home, outside home by internet by third party IOT platform.

U already have raspberry pi please use home assistant on it home assistant has separate energy dashboard and with Shelly to power meter or if you have p1 port you can manage your solar better free of cost

don't buy morden looking switches they won't live upto one year in heavy usage. in my house we use legrand basic models which are cheaper and reliable.
