There is nothing like paamara makkal. Whoever likes it likes it , if they dont they dont , thats all. It is like Dosa, whoever likes it eats it , to satisfy north indians can we change dosa to chapathi ? And say look how we changed dosa to meet the taste of north indians ! In a similar way, there is nothing like pAamara makkal, whiever likes it likes it, thats all. How many times we listen to Michael jackson or western opera withoutunderstanding it .? Like that each music has its own beauty , whoever likes it will like it and it is foolish to say paamara makkal because all of us will be paamara makkal only when we listen to new genres of music. So lets not dilute the beauty of music, each genre has its own appeal and rasikaas.

I believe the term was used to explain, anyone even without knowledge of carnatic music should be able to appreciate. Which only recently has started happening. Prior to that it was a somewhat closed loop where you needed to recognize Ragas or at least appreciate raga alapana to be able to sit through a concert.
