Film taken in their "Manticore" studio / store building in the old cinema in Fulham. The screen had been removed and the stage was used by sundry acts to rehearse upcoming tours. In another area were large black storage boxes with the initials "ELP" printed thereon. Back in the day the roadies let me in, as I was hoping to catch sight of my heroes ELP. During that time I saw "Jethro Tull", and other acts. After a few days of nothing, a smart young guy arrived and asked me what I wanted there. I explained my mission and hopes to which he replied,"I'm the drummer". Yes, it was Carl and I hadn't recognised him. "Come upstairs if you like, the others will be here soon". I went upstairs to this room in the film and hung with them while they did their thing, pausing, stopping to ask me questions such as; which were my favourite tracks, which albums did I like best etc etc. Carl played like a madman and his eyes would roll into his eyelids as he played. I stayed a while chatting and being with my heroes, the dream of a lifetime. They were quiet natured and unassuming. Since then I have seen them twice live in Toronto and shaken Keith's hand there on stage. The memories are alive and I continue to love their genius music. RIP Keith and Greg: Good luck and all the very best to Carl.

Great story! I was at the Toronto show - a few rows from the front - seated in front of Greg Lake standing on the Persian rug. Greg's bass notes were so penetrating I felt them rattling my rib cage. I still have my ticket stub, I will never forget it. The greatest show I have ever seen. ELP were my heroes too. I had our basement rigged with color organ machines, lights, and large column speakers to try to replicate the concert in some small way. I gave shows to my friends featuring ELP and my parents never complained, they knew I loved them. I have just gone through all the material out there after so many years. I am 64 years of age. I was so sad as I received the news that Keith and Greg had passed. RIP Greg Lake and Keith Emerson.

@MeT2338 The only reply that springs to my mind is simply - "Wow!" What a blessing! I would love to have spent time hanging out with those brilliant musical icons, even if it was only just to fetch them pots of tea or warm their slippers. They were all brilliant musicians but, as a keyboard player myself, KE obviously inspired me more than anybody else (but he also intimidated me with this unreachable level of accomplishment and peerless technique). Still, at least I had sufficient musical acumen to appreciate how far above my level they all were and to aim as high as I could. I guess I didn't do too badly because I've still managed to scrape a living for nearly fifty years as a full-time professional musician. I attribute much of that modest achievement to the inspiration I got from the great Keith Emerson when I was a teenager in the seventies.

@@fcamiola Yep. I'd definitely add Trilogy. However, if I could only ever hear one ELP album again for the rest of my life it would have to be the live "Welcome Back My Friends" set where most of the tracks actually surpass the studio recordings.
Keith Emerson, pure genius
We are watching the phenomenal work that resulted in the making of Karn Evil 9.ELP were a joy to behold.
These guys made so much good music together and only people with great discerning taste can appreciate what they did!

Yep, all 20,000 people on the planet!
Incredible footage! I love Emerson's smile at 1:05 mark---he's sees his composition really coming together!!
They worked so hard at their musicianship.
I miss you Keith, your soul is no longer on the planet and that is felt in the heart; An empty space. But I know crying is harmful, may the light of the universe be with you always, forever thank you, forever happiness to bring your music with me, see you soon ... Love for you friend and for Greg. Amen!

One of the greatest bands ever! Long Live ELP!
Truly amazing footage of my favorite band of all time rehearsing what would become the one song if I was only given one more song ever to hear again. All I can say is wow. I still miss Keith and Greg. RIP to you both.
My NO1 since 1973
Three masters-how lucky I am was only 20 when this burned a hole through my car speakers!!! Will never happen again. Ah look how young we all were
As a boy of 8 I discovered Trilogy in my sisters room. I couldnt listen to the Fugue in the dark at first, but man did I love that record. Still do. By the time of this Album I really appreciated what this band was doing. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Grazie

Muitas saudades destes bons tempos.

Carl Palmer’s snare work was the best in rock music at this time.
Great to see the masters at work
What a priceless film clip...watching the geniuses at work.
Che perla erano bellissimi
Wow....Cant believe i get to see the making of a classic...i study this piece and enjoy it more everytime i hear it and to see the master at work is complete BLISS
Never ever been anything like these guys since...
At 2:50, Emerson stops to clarify the bass note in an augmented chord. He says to Greg 'I think it's B'. Lake says 'B what?' Keith's reply is priceless! 'You may well ask...'
Masters at work
They still got along well with each other. Unfortunately after the 1974 tour the relationship between Greg and Keith was never the same again. That explains the change, a creative stagnation as a band and the end. Although they continued as soloists or in other projects, they were never the same again.
See you great musicians in heaven! ️RIP KEITH AND GREG
Sao meus herois. Como Pink Floyd e Yes. E Zappa, Gentle Giant e The Doors.
Grazie mille ! ! :D
Having fun, and it comes through in the music.
This is incredible!
I'm going to guess this is back in the unspoiled days when musicians rehearsed without air conditioning? From the sound of music today, maybe we should go back to that....

I’m wondering if this was shot in the upstairs foyer of the theater they bought and named Manticore Studios. I doubt this was in summer but if it were upstairs and geez, think of all the vacuum tubes running in that room - it would have gotten hot!

I’m totally blown away by this footage❤ this is so utterly incredible and captivating!!!! Dear Keith/Greg Rest In Peace ☮️😓

According to this video and Get Back documental, Keith was more democratic than Paul in the creative process. Keith was giving and receiving feedback. Paul was more of telling the others how to play their parts. I love Paul, he's a machine, but poor George, he was really frustrated.
genius at work
Genius at work, now I know why I dissed manufactured stuff like the ruttles

Putah los weones capos!!!

Wow, that upright Keith's playing at the beginning is WAY out of tune.
