    Thanks 🙏🏾 for giving an honest review of this viper.. I’ve had a viper for just over a year now bcos a reviewer said it was a good beginner jet. Wrong, it’s absolutely not. Like you said Habu Sts 70mm is by far a true beginner jet and personally, i would not recommend a viper jet to any beginner until they have flown something like the Habu and be comfortable flying it in an advance mode with a 4S battery. Then try the viper. The viper is for an intermediate/advance jet pilots.

    Thanks for the comment, and we are glad you enjoyed our review! It can be tough trying to get the suggestion right for who a plane may be suited for in a review. Everybody is different. For instance, an advanced 3D or even a really good sport pilot could fly the Viper as their first EDF. That said, pilots like that are more skilled than the average RC pilot, so we try to keep in mind that all skill levels will see our review and we are cautious in our recommendations.

    Adam, Very good review. As you know, I've had my 70mm Viper for about 2 years and made a mess of videos on how to land and modify it for optimal performance and some structural upgrades that are a real benefit. This new Viper seems like Eflite really made many of the tweaks we've been commenting on for a while. I'm really happy that you've pointed out all the setup configurations that will help pilots get the most from their Viper without bouncing it down the runway and busting the gear off.. (which is the most common issue).. Great video and HONEST review.. Hope you have lots more fun with your new toy...

    Excellent review & flying, as usual Adam! Nice that you also clearly demonstrated the effects of flying nose-heavy! (So many RCers nowadays have the symptoms of being nose-heavy & tail-heavy exactly backwards.) It's also great that you explained that despite the skill level 2 rating, it's not intended to be an EDF trainer - especially not for those who haven't flown anything faster than a Timber on 4s. I've never been much of an EDF guy (only one I have is the old original UMX MiG 15), mainly due to the short flight-times & big packs needed. But this one has got me interested. Especially if I can get ~4.5-5 min of mixed flying on a 6s 4000! The grass-friendly strut retracts are also a big improvement over many EDFs in this size range. And the fan actually sounds like a little turbine instead of an angry hair-dryer!😎

    Hey Joel! Thanks my friend, we appreciate that. I had a lot of fun with it for sure. Check out our Friday episode this week...it is a review follow up on the Viper. We got the SMART G2 packs in and I flew it on the 4000 and the lighter 3200...wow. The weight difference made a difference in a big way...and the flight time was still very good considering. It is still nice to know it will fly well on the heavier packs if the longest flight time possible is what you want. The new struts are a great improvement, and I agree...the sound is really good. Very much like a turbine. I remember my first EDF...it was the UMX Mig 15 as well! Still got one! My first larger EDF was the "Habu 2". Remember that one? Looked like a Thunderbirds T-38, it was 4s, anemic, and it absolutely sounded like a pissed off hair dryer! Lol.

    Thanks very much! Yes, no PNP on this one, I think they looked at the sales ratio and so many buy the Vipers as BNF to take advantage of a few extra features it didn't make sense to make a PNP. Like you said though not a deal breaker, plenty of folks to sell the Spektrum RX to if someone wants to use something else.

I if ever buy one (stuffed hangar atm!), I'd just keep the rx in as my Radiomaster would operate it anyway and a nicely tuned AS3X is always a pleasure. Glad to see both Horizon and FMS listened to their customers. Unlike you, I had the original Viper 70 then bought the Viper 90. Love them both but like you said the Viper 70 can't compare to the 90 bigger and just flies bigger. Before I bought the VIper 90 I converted the Viper 70 with FMS Avanti 70 struts, Needless to say what a difference. One the the best mods I did to any plane. Not sure its worth upgrading to the new Viper 70, since I have the biggest mod (CNC Struts) other than a little more power. Great review as usual, thank you!

    Greetings Adam. I watched both of your videos again on this Viper. I purchased one using your link. I hope the link worked! One thing I picked up on in your second review was your comment on your "set-up" when using 4000 Mah batteries. I have been trying to find what it is you did to mitigate the nose heavy problem with these heavier packs. I did buy some SMART 3200's - based on your recommendation - but I do have several 4000's. Did you cover your set up and I missed it? I can't thank you enough for your awesome reviews and the help you have provided! Dale.

    Hey Dale thank you very much for using our link! We appreciate the support! So glad you find our reviews helpful. On our first video (This one) I cover the set -up to counter the nose heavy state, set up starts at 4:29. So funny how I was convinced I'd use the bigger 4000's...then I tried the 3200's. Lol. Changed my mind! For what it is worth I didn't change a thing about the set up with the smaller packs. The extra rudder and elevator help with tumbles. I just re-trimmed it for the better balance point with the lighter packs. You could do flight modes if you want...one with it trimmed for the light packs, and one with it trimmed for the heavier ones. That way you just flip a switch depending on the battery and you won't have to re-trim every time you go from one to the other. Hope this helps, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    Congrats on winning a Viper! Great jet. Yes you can go with the stock placement, however, you may want to make sure you have a good amount of elevator. You can increase expo as much as you need to tame down the sensitivity. You need a good amount of up elevator to get a good flare on landing...especially if you're using a larger battery like a 4000. The 6s 3200 is perfect and makes the plane easier to flare and land smoothly.

    Thanks Joe! Man its hard to call a specific percentage of throttle. With the Viper, if you're landing with no flaps you might be fine coming in power off. Just depends on what your approach looks like. Taking it up high and doing some stall tests can help. That way you know what it looks like when it stalls and you'll have a better idea when you're getting too slow.

    No not really. we made it fly well with the 4000 with set up, but there's really no more room to adjust it for an even heavier pack. It would be very nose heavy with the 5000, and thats if you could shoe horn it in there, which without modification isn't happening.

    I’m interested in pre ordering this jet but I only have a dx6 , I do not plan on using safe. If there away to setup this edf with a dx6 and still have flaps retracts and the reverse thrust (I’d like the reverse thrust because I run on a pretty short dirt runway)

  • @ModelAV8RChannel

    @ModelAV8RChannel

    10 ай бұрын

    The reverse thrust needs its own channel. You could technically put flaps and retracts on the same switch if you're comfortable taking off with flaps. I "think" Horizon still has the Spektrum upgrade program going. They could take your DX6 and give you credit on a NX8. That TX can handle most planes you'll come across and give you all the features. Plus the forward and ESC programming through the TX is handy.
