Perfect plane for it!

A really lovely model. The only reason I wouldn't have one is that I don't quite gel with hard flying a scale model of an aircraft that is not cleared for much in the way of aerobatics irl and I don't just want to fly circuits. (Well, I have no room for any more so there's two reasons!). I agree it sounds like the wheels making the noise. Even as a Radiomaster pilot, I'd spend the extra cash for the BNF as AS3X is so beneficial.

I get it man. Some things I only want to fly scale, which is why as cool as bombers are I don't own one.

15°… that is absolute proof of dedication to delivering the release on time. And had you not said it, we would not have known. We’ve had the same psychopathic weather lately, too. The difference is, I stayed mostly inside when it was freezing… lol. Great job, both of you!

Adam ive noticed that the propeller that comes with that plane is balanced good but when i have taken it off and put it on a different plane i get the same noise your hearing and i think that since its a soft flexable propeller especially on the ends of thee blade when it spins up to high revs the prop tips ocalate siide to side causing that sound. Just my take on it...Great Demo Buddy as always...

Holy smokes! 15 degrees!!! I moved from TX to CA last year and that’s the one thing I just absolutely love about southern CA. Right around 70 degrees all year round. And another great video my friend. I absolutely LOVE this plane.

Adam, I have noticed that same vibration noise on the earlier red version Cherokee. My thought was that it originated in the stabilator? I don’t know that for sure, but I have tightened the 2 screws as best that I can. Doug Coates, Bristol, Rhode Island. I always enjoy your review's. 😎

Another great video Adam, this is one that looks like it's more than capable on 3S and ballistic on 4S. Really impressed, looks like a really wide flight envelope. Now I just need to decide between this one and the SR-22T. I don't have any trikes besides my EC-1500's and jets, time to add one to the hangar. Wanna help me break the tie deciding between them 😉

Thanks man! The two are really similar. The lights are epic on both. The Cirrus will do KE spins and crankshafts...which was a total surprise to me. Other than that the Cherokee can do everything the Cirrus can do. For me personally it's the Cherokee all day. I just prefer the more classic planes. Same with cars.

What's up big guy, it's kev. I had a Cherokee for a second rc airplane. I had to build it, I think it was great planes? Nitro at the time of course but very similar in size. I really enjoyed watching you fly this beautiful plane. It brought back some great memories for me. Thank you:)

@ModelAV8RChannel Yes, you're right. That was the first kit that I built almost entirely on my own. He was always there looking over my shoulder, working on the bench parallel to mine. He sure did make me fine builder and taught me to take pride in my work. He taught me to have patience, measure twice, cut once lol, and when things go bad, walk away and come back to it. He's still with me today, I'm sure. I sure do miss him. Thank you for acknowledging that, BTW. You're a good man

Great review again. Ya we all be freezing. I have the red one and love it. What a beauty. And like you said the light package is awesome. Like the rv7. Thats a selling point for me for sure. Thanks for mentioning Michael cline. He is a master. So fun to watch. Crisp and clean and probably alot of caffeine lol. Not to take anything away from you though. Your by far my favorite. Aww Jay, thanks man for the kind words. With all the great channels and pilots on YT we are honored to be your favorite! Yep, MC is the best at that style I've seen on YT. Super smooth and skilled. You'll get there Jay. Don't get frustrated man, get focused. It isn't really about flying a lot, its more about concentrated practice. Pick a goal...one maneuver/technique, and practice that until you can't stand it...then do it some more. The biggest mistake I see pilots (that really want to get good) making is not mastering anything before they move on to something else. Ask yourself - "Can I execute this exactly the way I want ten times in a row?" If you can't, keep practicing that. Then when you can, how low can you do it? Yep, keep practicing that. Master it. Then move on to the next thing you want to learn. Pretty soon what will happen is you'll realize each time you master one thing, the skills and confidence you developed doing it makes learning the next one easier. Also, get a sim if you don't have one. When its raining or you're bored at night...practice. Don't aimlessly fly around...practice. Make the time you put in count. In less time than you'd think, you will be just flying around for fun again, and it will be more fun than ever...because you'll be a bad a$$.

Great review of a classic RC aircraft, Adam. I love the updated colour scheme on this one. Shame I pounced on an old-stock, BNIB one just a few days ago that I'd had my eyes on for a couple of years! It literally arrived this morning! Oh well... I do love a red and white aircraft, so I'm happy. Paid the 'old' price for mine, too. You really wrung yours out good and proper... fab flying! Mine'll be a 3S scale flyer for just putzin' about in nice weather. I like the look of your new flying field, too.

Thanks Gina! I'm glad you got one. They fly so good! You might want to order the new prop. That should still be plenty of power and it will give you some more clearance from the grass. You know, I threw it around because folks want to see that it can do it, but honestly I enjoyed the low light touch n' go's the most!

Great review Adam! I'm still rocking my red Cherokee and it's one sweet bird with all the electronics updated by me to the latest tech. I like red but this blue looks sweet aswell.

It's the steerable nose wheel that I think would be the issue!! The ground is just so bumpy!! I had a fantastic big fms Cessna once and it just didn't cope well, kept stripping the servo on landing 😒

That’s a beautiful airplane and you fly it perfectly! Being a Cessna 172 pilot and former owner , I wish Eflight would come out with a 172 Skyhawk. 🙋‍♂️👍🖖🏻

Adam, I was wondering when this one was going to get some love from HH. I had the V1 and recently donated it to a friend. I really liked flying it scale in the evenings with the lights. First thing I did was balance the prop on mine. Sounds like yours was a little off as well and really a minor fixy. Other than that (which is not really a big deal) is the only issue I had. Enjoyed your flight and kudos to the Misses for braving the cold as well. ❤

Thank you Brad! Man it was COLD! Heidi is a trooper for sure! Believe it or not, I did balance the prop. I think the cold made it worse, but from what I can tell that was the wheels vibrating in the pants. I gotta fix that...

Nice review, the lights look good. It looks quite overpowered on 3S already. Not even the 235 HP PA-28 Dakota can climb out like that. :) Of course it's always good to have spare power to get out of tricky situations. Does it have a semi symmertical airfoil? The nose high landings look teriffic!

Thanks. Yep its not lacking power for sure. It's the standard Hershey Bar wing Piper used, so more flat bottomed.

Interesting suggestion about the source of the buzzing sound on 4s. I've got a similar annoying buzz on my 95" Extra 330 that I was never able to track down. Everything was tight. Now that you pointed it out it seems obvious that it's the wheels. It's the only thing loose that can vibrate against another part. Thanks for pointing that out on your Cherokee!

Glad that was helpful. Yep, I balance every prop and make sure things are tight. I've seen that many times with wheels and wheel pants. Sometimes you can shim it out, or replace the tires, but it is fixable.

@@ModelAV8RChannel I have that one, too, the 87" 3DHS Extra 300, electric, but no issue with vibration noises. The 330 is from Extreme Flight and is electric only.

Wonder why the manual call out -3 and -5 elevator flap mix. Shouldn’t it be the other way? I notice you have +5 and +10 which sounds right. When I did the maiden on mine the other day by the book it ballooned like crazy.

How would you compare this plane with the Commander? I'm considering both. I'm just returning to R/C planes after 11-year hiatus and my progress is painfully slow. Really enjoying your videos.

Hey Will, thanks bro. The Cirrus will do some things the Cherokee won't from a XA perspective. From a scale point of view they both look and fly the part. Both also have the same level of awesome lights. That said, for me personally, for the same reasons I'd have a 65 Mustang over a 2024 Mustang...Cherokee all the way.

That depends on the grass and the landings. It's sturdy enough for good landings in reasonably short grass. Obviously bad landings in thicker grass will take a toll.

With this plane and the cirrus SR22T being at the same price,which one do you think is the better overall plane?

They are so close I'd say get the one you like best. I prefer the more classic planes, so for me its the Cherokee.

Hi Adam. Just watched your review again. I did order this plane some time back, but Horizon got the order all mixed up and I did not get the plane. I am still going to order one. Could you clear up one thing for me? In your review, you said the AR631 in this model is unlocked. I'm just a little confused. Is the receiver completely unlocked, as in can you reset it to factory zero using just the forward programming in your Spektrum NX radio? I usually count on resetting all proprietary Spektrum receivers on a PC before I do anything else. I do not like having either SAFE and or AS3X on all the time. I use a three position switch, so I can select SAFE, AS3X or all gryo functions off. Thanks again for your great reviews and help. Dale

Hey Dale, yep...it is unlocked so you can go into forward programming and do a factory reset and start over if you want. No PC required.

They are both great, with similar features and performance. Get the one you think looks the best.

Too bad you can't buy these things as kits and undecorated. It's impossible to strip off the existing paint to then decorate it with a different colour scheme to match, for example, the full scale Cherokee I once owned.

Jim that really isn't an issue. You can primer it first, or use the Rust-Oleum 2X paint, which is a paint/primer mix. Check out The RC Geek channel. Chris advised me on a re-paint we did (episode 4 on our channel) and he is a master at it. There are many instructional vids on how to on his channel and he has done this a hundred times...literally, Lol.

But then you are adding more weight to an already fairly heavy (judging by how fast it seems to fly in videos) model. You'd need to paint the entire model too, otherwise there is a clash between the bare foam and the overpainted sections. Paint is remarkably heavy.

I'm aware Jim, but regardless of how you paint anything you're going to add weight. I urge you to do some research and check out the channel I suggested. You can paint over the existing paint...or you CAN remove the old paint and re-paint it. Just a matter of sanding, light Spackle, and some bodywork like anything else. Chris shows how to do both in detail. Either way you will have to paint the whole plane to cover bare foam. As a guy that has painted a foam plane using Chris's techniques... and flown that same plane before and after painting...the weight gain is nominal and the plane still slows down just fine. Also, not sure who you're watching but the Cherokee isn't heavy at all. In our video we list the weight with all the different batteries. We slow the Cherokee down, do touch n' gos, etc. How fast it flies depends on a lot...pilot skill for one, and the battery used is key. There's five ounces difference in the battery range from smallest to largest. The talking part of the vid that most skip...covers things like that.

@@ModelAV8RChannel Well, first, I'm a newcomer to your channel so I apologize for not seeing the videos you mentioned. Thus I'm not familiar with them. I hope you can provide links somehow or specific key words to guide me to them. However, I am not new to RC aircraft as I'm an old-school builder from more than 35 years ago. I was actually one of the participating pioneers in electric flight back in the 80s when everyone was flying the glow-fuel stuff and electric models were powered by extremely heavy NIcad packs that were normally used in model cars. Electric flight, at least where I lived in Ontario, was very unusual and new back then. My first model was the Goldberg "Electra" which I learned on. I belonged to the "Electric Model Fliers of Southern Ontario" club back in the day, run by the late great Vic Walpole and Keith Shaw, who was considered the guru of breakthrough technology and design and I was a personal friend of Vic. I am most familiar with the old way of building with balsa and iron-on coverings. I have also built indoor scale free-flight rubber so I do get the whole thing about weight (I mss those days!). I am also a professional static scale model builder as well to this day and earn my living doing so. I mention all this so you can understand I'm not a novice to model building. HOWEVER I do admit to being somewhat unfamiliar to modern "pull it out of the box and assemble it in 5 minutes Chinese produced foamie fliers" that it seems everyone is used to today. Yes, these models indeed make it a lot quicker and easier to have semi-scale models of favorite subjects but I am dismayed that they are not offered as kits that can be more lovingly built by those of us who would like to personalize the models over just having a model that everyone else has. These models also seem to leave little room for modification the way the older style balsa builds did. Anyway, another thing that turns me off of modern RC is the fact that now the government has decided that we modelers also have to be regulated the way gun owners are. Thus I guess I will never own a model anymore that exceeds 250 grams. I refuse to register and have tracked a frickin' model airplane. That's just nuts. Anyway, I somewhat digress. I just wish that manufacturers would make kit versions available at a lower price that we can build and personalize so that we can have models that are more easily customizable the way the old-school balsa build-up kits could be done. I would love to have a flying model capable of very slow flight (slow and very scale speeds appeal to me) of the full-scale aircraft I once owned. I guess I'll have to find the time to build it myself. Hopefully, I can build one that weighs under 250 grams so I don't have to have the Gestapo crawling up my back. I need to do more research on extremely lightweight and affordable RC components that will allow that. Maybe you guys can find that out for me.

Hey Jim. Man I get what you're saying. The hobby is a different place than it used to be. There are still builders, but they are far and few between compared to the way it was when I started in the 80's. People have really embraced the super easy foamy world, and there are truly some great airplanes to enjoy in it, so I get that, but I also hate the fact that so many of them have no modeling experience, and blame the planes for simple issues they just don't know how to fix. So you said a lot...lot to unpack there, lol. First, two builders you need to watch, one is the guy I've already told you about...Chris Wolfe. His channel is "The RC Geek". The other is Cliff Harvey. His channel is "Cliff Harvey RC Planes." You type in either of those channel names in the YT search bar and you'll easily find them. When it comes to Remote ID there is a very simple way to fly larger planes than 250g. You can join the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). They are to modelers what the NRA is to gun owners. With that membership you can then join a local RC club in your area that has been granted a FRIA (FAA recognized identification area). At a FRIA you can fly what you want with no Remote ID. Simply ask the club before you join if they have theirs. If that isn't a route that interests you, there are many planes in the E-flite UMX line (Foam Ultra Micros) that look and fly wonderfully. They are all under the 250g limit. Where Cliff Harvey comes in is he uses the electronics from these UMX planes (which you can buy as spare parts at Horizon Hobby) to convert many Gwillows free flight planes (balsa stick builds that are tissue covered) to RC. They are also under the limit and you get to build/modify them...right up your ally. He also makes plans that he sells for scratch builds. Probably also up your ally. As for Chris Wolfe, already told you about him...a master at showing you what can be done with foam...from modifying them to scratch building them. The info on the Cherokee I told you about that we provide...is in this video...the one you commented on in the first place. If you want to be in RC aviation today and still be a builder, you absolutely can. Check out those two channels as a start, do some research, and I'm sure there is a route that will strike your fancy.
