I am a former avionics technician on the E-3 AWACS. I was stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. I spent 10 years working and traveling on these aircraft. Due to parts sustainibility issues, the DoD decided to park 13 aircraft and scap them for parts. The E-7 is slated to replace the beloved E-3 starting in a few years. The E-3 is a 60s technology ground radar system crammed in to a 70s era Boeing 707. It has flown since March of 1977. It has flow proudly and honorably since then and it will be a sad day that the last E-3 is retired.

The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.

I worked at the Renton facility. I worked in a small shop called lot time and my supervisor and myself we riveted the last production part for the last 707. It’s kind of a sad day anyway Jerry Zaner my supervisor he helped build the first 707 and together in the shop we worked in we riveted the last production part for the last 707. Someone was yanking your chain, or they/you mistook the E-3 for the P-3 Orion ASW aircraft, which is a sub hunter. The E-3 does not have MAD or sonobuoys.

Thank you for your informative video. The E-3 or variants thereof, have been around since the 60’s and maybe earlier. They do get updated with new technology but it is basically tasked with the same mission. Just say’n. . Be well. 😊

2:44 You're showing one of the legacy platforms with the old TF33 engines, they have later models and have had for some time. CFM56 engines for example.
