Dyson V15 Detect - What We Dislike

Ғылым және технология

We highlight what we don't like about the Dyson V15 Detect cordless vacuum, discussing run time tests, edge cleaning tests, vacuum weight, battery recharge times, and more. Also, see our "Dyson V15 Detect - What We Love" video review: • Dyson V15 Detect - Wha...
See the Dyson V15 on Amazon: amzn.to/3xrKmBi
See our written Dyson V15 Review: vacuum-cleaner-advisor.com/Dy...
We start by showing the Dyson V6, V7, V8, V10, V11 and V15 and highlight the weight of each machine. In addition, we discuss the weight, size and overall bulk of the V15 handheld unit.
We like that the V15 has a "click-in" battery (a battery that can be popped off with the push of a button and simply clicked back into place). However the major advantage of such a feature is to allow you to get multiples of your run time by using more than one battery, but the V15 only comes with one battery.
When the battery is fully discharged you have to recharge it before you can continue vacuuming. But the V15 battery takes a full 4.5 hours to recharge so your vacuuming session can be significantly disrupted.
Since the days of the Dyson DC59 owners have been complaining about having to hold the power trigger to operate the vacuum. This continues with the V15. Some people find that this approach causes their finger to tire during long cleaning sessions.
We ran the unit through edge cleaning tests and found that it leaves some debris behind along the edge. In our estimation the V15 only has average edge cleaning. It does perform better edge cleaning with repeated passes however.
In boost power mode the vacuum has plenty of suction (230 Air Watts). We found that in boost power mode that powerful suction has a tendency to suck the high torque cleaning head down fairly hard on carpet making it something of a chore to move. It's ok for short periods but can get tiring (or annoying) for longer periods of time.
Surprisingly the V15 has shorter run times on carpet than we expected. The run times were shorter than those suggested by the manufacturer in ECO and AUTO mode.
Finally, the V15's - both the V15 Detect and the V15 Detect+ - are fairly expensive vacuum cleaners.

Aside from the price, the dislikes discussed in the video are pretty minor. I have had mine for about 3 weeks now, the power button takes so little pressure to activate that I cannot believe people are complaining about it. I also find it quite easy to push around on boost mode. This could be because I am a former pipefitter and I find this machine to be super lightweight... it is also the best vacuum I have ever owned. I have a severe dust mite allergy, normally when a vacuum is started my eyes turn red instantly and start to water and I start to wheeze. I can breathe the air being blasted out of the filter on this machine with hardly a tear in my eye. 2 thumbs up, 5 stars, 10/10. This is a pro tool.

I love my Dyson V15. It's by far the best vacuum cleaner I ever used! I don't think it's too heavy, but I am also a relatively fit 32-year-old male. I wonder if the edge cleaning would have worked better going perpendicular to the corner rather than parallel to it, since the V15 has the little suction things on the front but doesn't appear to have them on the sides or how it does in boost mood on corners?

I discovered this on the very first use and I cannot believe that apparently no one else did. The V15 (and all the other sticks that as far as I know) are heavy enough that you can literally use its own weight to hold the button against your finger but just holding it at a slight angle.

Another thing my wife and I thought was odd was that the hair screw tool is too bulky to be attached to the wand holder and it also will not attach to their own base when it is mounted to the wall. You would think their own attachments would be compatible with their holders. I also miss the ability to have the vacuum to stand up on its own when you need to step away and come back.

Thanks for the information! I just bought a Dyson V15 Detect yesterday (2/16/2023) for $749.99. Haven't tried it out yet. My old vacuum is a Dyson DC17 Animal and it is 16 years old! That shocked me when I looked up when I bought it. I decided to get a new vacuum because while the Dyson DC 17 Animal still works great, at 20.79 lbs I'm getting a little tired of pushing it around. I'm looking forward to the 6.7 weight of the V15. I also like the fact that the new vacuum is cordless! No more dealing with cords. Now the battery in the new one at a max of 20 minutes isn't very long, but fortunately, I live in a small house. If I find that it doesn't give me enough time to clean, then I'll buy a 2nd battery. I have hardwood floors and area rugs. I was going to get a V10, but reviews I read said it wasn't good for hardwood floors (scratching) and I didn't want that. I also think I'll get a lot of use out of the tools that came with the V15 Detect. 16 years is a long time to own a vacuum cleaner, but I think I'll enjoy my new purchase. Oh, thanks for the info on the weight of the handheld portion. I also have a V6 Trigger handheld which is 3.4 lbs. I think I'll keep it since you mentioned that the V15 handheld is heavier.

Think run tile on boost is slightly better too. Downsize is cost but in terms of performance reducing strain and health well worth considering. There is no light on the carpet or standard head. I bought a stick on light on Amazon. I also bought a trigger lock on Amazon that keeps the button pressed so I don't have to hold it. That works great. I also put a stick on strip of foam on the front of the standard head because it looks fragile if you were to bang it on a furniture leg or wall. Those 3 items to me are a no brainer and should come on the $750 V15. Having to to those myself seems silly on this level of machine. The light is the biggest of the things ignored by Dyson. Otherwise it would suck up the Sahara Desert if given the chance. Great vacuum in that regard. Thanks for the thorough review.

I don't understand why Dyson hasn't put a simple trigger guard on any of their products. They are adamant that you shouldn't pull the trigger while trying to empty the vacuum, but the grip is quite small, so for most peopl, when holding the vacuum, they got 3 fingers on the grip and the fourth one over the trigger, since the whole hand won't fit into the grip. I feel like I'm handling a gun for the level of trigger discipline I need just to empty a simple vacuum. My wife had her finger slip once while emptying, and it made a mess, dirt went flying everywhere. It would be much much easier with a simple trigger guard, it's not even a tech upgrade, just a little piece of plastic.

The trigger is extremely easy to hold down. You just do it naturally. It also saves battery power. The light we could use!

Cordless vacuums are a joke. The Dyson v15 can only run for about 9 minutes on highest/strongest suction setting. It also takes 4.5 hours to do a full charge. So if you want to PROPERLY clean a 4 bedroom house that is fully carpeted, It will take a few days with all the recharging.

Very disappointed in this pricy vac…that is not able to deal with pet hair!I have to spend more time trying to clean the fur clogged tubes than I do in cleaning the house! When I called Dyson, they had zero solution to this issue! It’s also difficult releasing the red buttons to change devices.Dyson should alert customers that their machine is not pet friendly before they purchase this overpriced vac! I Will be recycling this Dyson pile of plastic with the top rated Tineco!

I have the v15 and hate it too!!! I thought I was the only one! I find it’s constantly clogged and impossible to clean out the tank without dust flying everywhere (great for my allergies) and having to put your hand in to get all of it out!! I actually don’t understand the good reviews at all!! I’m wondering if mine is a dud or this is normal!

the filters are a ripoff. they get dirty too quickly and don't actually rinse clean. they start off white, within a couple weeks turn grey and stay that way, which basically means they're choked with fine dust. the kind you're not going to rinse out. speaking of rinsing, the filter is supposed to dry in 24 hours. not so. if you want it DRY, try 48 or even 72 hours. so you'll need more than one filter. and did I mention they're a total ripoff? 32 bucks each, plus tax. when you have to replace the filter, you'll be throwing out a nice big piece of plastic along with it, because much of the filter is plastic and it's fully encased in plastic because Dyson didn't get, or ignored, the whole "let's stop killing the earth" memo. other than that, it's a fine, fun to use, wickedly overpriced, and ultimately disposable vacuum which will end up in a landfill within 5 years.

What filth are you living that your filters get that nasty? I've owned a couple different Dyson and have gone a while without changing the filter since it didn't even look like it needed it in the first place...
