Sir, I am beginning. I want to record my written poetry professionally. In which my line will go in high tone and will also come in low tone. Tell me such mic and audio interface. So that I can record and mix later. But my room is not sound proof. My total budget is $300. But a shopkeeper told me that you cannot do recording with dynamic mic. Please tell me what should I do. Tell me such a mic and audio interface that I will not regret after buying.

It's understandable why you'd point a mic at a speaker's mouth. That's where the sound is coming from. But WHY, as in this demo, are they almost always placed in FRONT of the person's face? When they're pointed at the mouth from the SIDE (the same distance away), the results are the same. I did an experiment with a mic I just bought (audio-technica ATR2100X) and verified this is true. It's so much more pleasant to have the mic out of view off to the side. So what's the deal with everybody speaking INTO the mic?

It’s a myth that condenser microphones pick up more ambient noise than dynamic microphones. The ratio of ambient noise to subject noise is dependent upon polar pattern and noise source to microphone distance and not dependent on whether it’s a dynamic or condenser. So for two mics with the same polar pattern and the same distance between subject and microphone capsule the background noise will have the exact same ratio to the subject signal. The reason dynamic microphones appear to have better background noise rejection is because people typically put the sound source closer to the capsule because they tend to be more resistant to plosives and proximity effect. So if you want to use a condenser in a noisier room get as close to the capsule as you would with a dynamic and there will be no background noise difference.

I see no problem in that.. just make sure you EQ it right.. mic it at least 1 feet away from the sound hole or near the end fret..

I’m conflicted between an Audio Technica AT-2035 and a Rode Procaster, I need the microphone for zoom meetings and important presentations over videoconference, so my voice needs to be appealing to the viewer, I also have kinda of a deep voice, which one you think would make me stand out?

Adding just for history since the question can be irrelevant now. The only advantage of condensers is raw sound, and you gonna sacrifice everything for that. For any you know non-musical purposes (read: everyday use), dynamic mics are better: less dependancy to sound/echo-proofing, less sound leaks (like from computer, chair screeches, "mouth noises"), durability, smoother, less annoying sound. I personally have procaster as dream mic for everything use and i quite like it. The only thing is its hella power hungry- i hooked it up to 286s (not a mandatory solution, to be clear) to get a lot of clean amplification and some basic hardware-driven effects.

i don't like my voice on a dynamic microphone but I feel it's pretty decent on a condenser... more close to what I think I sound... if this makes any sense...

That'd correct. A dynamic mic is missing both high and low frequency. They're convenient for stage performances but most studios record audio with a condenser mic because you capture a much wider and more accurate representation of the voice. Of course, all mic models sound slightly different and color the voice a little differently so you have to find one that suits your voice.

Are dynamic microphones good for vocal recordings?

Dynamic mics are good, and if you're going to be recording in your bedroom while the family is watching a surround-sound movie in the living room, dynamics are your best bet. My condensers pick up my foot tapping on the floor, my son coughing in the next room, someone opening the front door... One dynamic sounds different from the next dynamic, as one condenser sounds different from another condenser. Find a mic that suits your voice. If you love your deep voice, find a mic that won't hide the lows... If however, you would like to bring out some highs, to balance you out, find a mic that offers THAT... I would almost suggest you get a Shure SM58... Even if you don't love it, it can serve as a good reference, as tons of mic-comparison videos feature the 58... You will get an idea of what the other mics sound like, in comparison... Practice good mic technique, find the right dynamic (preferably cardioid), and you're good to go.

@@versus8329 Indeed... But it's nice to have one of each... or various of each, if possible... My buddy sends me new guitar ideas, and my task is to write lyrics and send him a rough mix of his guitar with my vocals. These are the 1st steps in our process... At that stage, I just sing in whatever key it happens to be in... Just yesterday, I was having the darndest time trying to nail my vocals to a challenging track... I almost gave up, when I remembered to try the onboard condenser on my portastudio... I was able to get it in 2 takes... My theory is that since the song is new, and challenging, maybe it was to much for me to get it, WHILE performing proper mic-technique... Pressed record, focused on nothing but my pitch and the lyrics, and boom; done deal...

Dynamic mics can be good for home recording, Shure SM58 has been used a lot by even Pro vocalists. The Shure Beta 58 is less muddy though than the SM58, I think the SM58 is a bit muddy on male voices (especially if your voice is very low). My voice is bassy, so I switched to the AKG D5, which I'm very happy with. It has similar attributes to the SM58, but has more top end and a stronger signal output.
