I would just like to say that your an amazing extemp speaker, and this video has helped me so much when doing extemp performances, and I've read some of your tips and have tried them and they all work, thank you so much

As a beginner extemper in highschool, watching this gets me so motivated to keep cutting articles and studying.

I personally doubt this, though this is honestly not from personal experience as the memorization of specific sources is not my strong suit- it is simply from experience and mental patterns that one uses that allows the sources to speak prominently in one's mind. Once again, however, this requires immense mental discipline, and truly explains how only a few make it to the top.

I had a lot of friends in school that competed and they all enjoyed extemp because it's all bullshit. They frequently made up sources and if you actually listen to what they said, you learned nothing because it was all garbage and just sounded good.

Roberto Gonzalez Some people just have what is known as the "gift of gab". They can talk out of their ass successfully. I don't know if it can be taught but many many things can be broken down to algorithms so I am sure it is possible.

I think the time limit for Extemp is 7 minutes with a 30 second grace period.

Solid speech very fundamentally sound, but so robotic. So fixed on the extemp walk, gestures and style. Notice the inflection when citing, and tone change when hitting conjunctions
