Also, that loot is trash loot, not like super rare stuff. It's basically consumable crafting loot that you get in the world, or from looting enemies and whatnot. The x ray vision wall hack stuff always shits me. What do they think we are? Morons who can't figure out where things are for ourselves? Part of the satisfaction of older games is the exploration that you do yourself. Not only that but it incentivises you to go looking around and taking it all in. The graphics are a bummer, optimisation is definitely a joke. The game runs like a fat kid up hill. It’s also really blurry for some reason, no matter how much you do in the settings. The immunity mechanic gets old real fast, wtf is the point of exploring at night and hiding from the infected when you're forced to return to UV lights every 5 mins or chug down some UV shroomz? Story is ok-ish, tbh wasn't expecting much since the first one wasn't ground-breaking in the slightest. Also the lack of volatiles of a night is just stupid, they added the fear factor of them hunting you as the whole "survive the night" theme in the first game. Now it's almost like you can run around outside and there is no consequence apart from having to find a UV source.

@@Julian_14 It's still shit compared to the first one. Not only because of the timer which only goes up when you get 3 inhibitors, but because, unlike the first one, there's no specials that chase you. Remember how in the first game you had runners? volatiles? those jumpers? all chasing you at night, it made for some of the most fun and tense moments in the game. In DL2? Gone. Volatiles are only in specific areas DURING THE DAY and a few missions, runners are almost non existent. So chases at night are you getting chased by 1 or 2 normal zombies. Add to that that there are not areas with traps like in the first unless you side all the way with the PK and you get an extremely boring Night Time experience compared to the first one. The fun of being out at night was that it was actually dangerous, not that you had a stupid timer going down, a timer that mind you, half way into the game may as well not even exist as the game showers you with consumables to stop it. It's literally an annoying mechanic that makes the experience awful in the first half and then disappears in the second, legitimately making you wonder what was the point to even added in the first place.

While I agree, the xray vision is crap when it comes to zombies. The story is actually leaps and bounds above what was offered in dying light 1. Its not that its necessarily good. But its not horrible to me thus far either. Its not going to win any awards probably, but if you played dying light 1 you might appreciate it more for what it is. A step above what was offered previously. My biggest gripe with the game thus far isnt the xray vision or the story. Its the lack of tension especially at night. The volatiles play little to no role in this game thus far from what iv played. And the whole chase mechanic is nothing more than a farm fest for upgrading your gear. Running to a uv light ends the chase, and considering a level 3 chase spawns volatiles, it kills the tension for me. So, its a step up in story, but a step down in tension cause of the xray vision and lack of threat.

I'm pausing the video to comment about the "xray mode" or whatever: People said similar things about Dying Light 1, that it was hard to tell what you can or can't pick up, and that you had to constantly spam the Survivor Sense to see lootable items and objects... But I turned that shit off before I even started the story mode (on Nightmare) and never felt the need for it once. As long as pointing at an object pops up a prompt to pick it up, then you don't need the xray ping hack thing.

eh, I think there are mechanics he is missing that play into that more. Like UV flares and whatnot. You also don't have to venture into the darker areas at night. I mean, the whole first game had a similar aspect, night time is supposed to feel lethal as hell but what ended up happening is no one ever ventured out at night in DL1. It was too intense. So the changes they made is to encourage players to actually go out at night. You can also skip night all together and sleep but all of the zombies go into the buildings during the day. I donno, I think its a near design.

If this is your main concern, I would suggest at least giving it a try if it goes on sale or you get the chance to play it for free. I would suggest the 2-hour refund window, but it does take a while to get to the point where this mechanic appears. Personally, I think it's a completely non-issue. He is right that it's an annoyance, but contrary to Mack I think it's an annoyance because it's a pointless mechanic in free roam with the way it's currently implemented. There are UV lights within walking distance at almost all times, like he mentioned, but consumables are far easier to load up on than he's suggesting, and that makes this mechanic practically nonexistent outside of maybe some scripted missions. You can load up on UV sticks and immune consumables very easily, and that this system just turns into a "press H every few minutes to refill obligatory bar". I actually wish they hadn't been so soft with this mechanic, or at least given some sliders to adjust it both ways. I like the idea of making the infection not just a plot point, but right now it's nothing more than a tiny inconvenience to wear down your resources or make you run to some blue lights if you forgot your inhaler.

A solution to the X Ray vision mechanic is to axe it and make items shimmer slightly as seen in Bioshock, this can be done in a way as to not compromise visual style and would completely change stealth tactics. This would increase tension greatly. I just struggle to see the developers vision when they implement things like this. I understand they may want to increase accessibility, this could be made available in difficulty sliders.

Dying light 2, every thing feels watery and wet at some time and textures do not seem refined at many points comapring to DL2 demo. I think the selling point in DL2 was the options shown in E3 2018. Techland showed thar every choice had it's own big consequences and the game was around choices and consequences. After that this was died down into specific choices and only their consequences. 2018 demo promised that each player will have their own gameplay and different effects. It would shape their world as they want. Dying Light's main selling point is parkour and that is why I loved the first game. But in 2 parkour felt unreal with unrealistic jumps. I know some of you say it's because of Aiden's virus or experiments he had, but unrealistic parkour is not what I like. The reason I didn't like AC Unity was unrealistic parkour, even though it has the best parkour than any other game made. Ok, so night time in that game is not good. Its like difference between AC Odyssey and RDR2 I know some people say that we can adjust brightness as we like but people keep forgetting one thing that in DL1, night had several stages and it depended where you were. Sometimes it would get pitch black and in just before moring it would be more visible. The moon light depended on the hour of night and which place you stood. You could see the shadows moving as of earths movements. Not to forget that in storms it would get really dark. Dying light 2 is not what it used to be, or we what we thought it used to be. We call AC Unity masterpiece, but it was not a Masterpiece, it is the same game as it was before. BFV is not a masterpiece, we have seen even worser sequal to it. They are the same game they were used to be. But I loved the fact, that we criticised those games when they came out. Atleast we know why we criticised it. But now we have seen so much worse that we are calling a decent game, Masterpiece. If these games are masterpiece than I don't know what is a decent game. I am just sad, my heart really beats fast when I think that gaming community does not realise that how gaming standard has been dropped. I hope you would understand.

I mean, he was playing it like a grandad...a *big* part of the game is the parkour and moving quickly over the rooftops gets you around fast. Some of the jumps and climbing abilities are pretty unrealistic, to say the least, IF you want to be Captain Pedantic about it...but as long as you are able to suspend disbelief a bit, and except that it's video gamey in that sense, then it's a lot of fun and very fluid. That, and unlocking metro stations that serve as fast travel points. But yea, getting used to how the day/night cycle functions and what and when you should be doing certain things is part of the game...during the day zombies hide out in buildings, so daytime is not the time to go hunting around inside and vice-versa..at night the streets are full of zombies so it's time to get inside and rake about for stuff. It's not rocket science or anywhere near what he was making it out to be...I mean, yea...if you're indecisively stumbling about like a three-legged crippled giraffe then the cycle is going to catch up on you. Dying light 1 was only good because at some point you unlock unlimited stamina and all the cool parkour moves. Basically the game is utter garbage until you reach the level where you can roam freely, smash up zombies, and visit the edges of the map where there is some hidden boss or lute waiting for you. Playing at night was the cherry ontop where you actually had to utilize your parkour moves to out manouvre the volatiles. Thats that experience we loved, and remember about dying light 1. The story, the crafting, finding bleuprints etc were pretty mediocre at best. It was only until you unlocked the abbilities that actually allowed you to be free that the game became legendary fun. Adding to that, playing on nightmare mode. Allowed you to be max level, yet still have to run your ass off from the volatiles. That was the ultimate combination of parkour and tension. So im expecting with this game the same. Everything is garbage untill you leveld up a decent ammount and actually do what you want. The abysmall countdown timer at night is not helping with that. And im just wondering at what point you can skip all the boring story and go places cool. Are there cool places to explore? Can I parkour smoothly without ever touching the ground like in dying light 1? That was fun. If they take that away, you are left with a steaming pile of shit. Its pretty delicate. Lets hope they didnt fuck it up.

Denuvo had some weird effect on performance in AC: Origins Conflicted with one of the graphics settings but i'm not sure which one exactly now since it was years since i played it. Depth of Field maybe... something seemingly irrlevant. With it and denuvo the game would hitch once every couple seconds. With denuvo off and the setting on the game would be smooth. FINALLY a review that adresses all that shit! God did I love DL1 and oh my god did I get FUCKED by how bad DL2 is.... my god man... WOW! I agree with you at all points at a 100%! I jsut defeated 6 Zombies with only my mouse in hand because I was filming with my other hand for a friend to show him how bad combat is. I then tried the same in DL1. Died within seconds against only 3 walkers :D The biggest thing throwing me off is actually how empty the game world is. I'm running in the city center and there are like 5 zombies around. I dont even have to use parkour, just running through them - no problem. And there are people WHO ARE MAKING FIRE 10 METRES NEXT TO ZOMBIES AND DONT GET ATTACKED BY THEM!!! xD DUDE! The whole point of Dying Light is NOT to be on the ground, being in safe zones and when outside, jump the roofes :D :D And they are standing there around a burning barrel and haveing a litte chat within a huge fucking city that should be full of zombies xD Story is total garbage, decisions are garbage, combat is garbage, graphics are mediocre at best, nights are as threatening as a little fluffy cat and so many more things.

For me It's the health bars. Why does a singleplayer need HP bars? HP bars to me means artificial progression. Meaning "Sorry you cannot enter here because you are only level 2 and this is a level 7 area." For me I have never been a fan of this. Let me go where I want when I want I'll soon learn by death if I went somewhere I shouldn't. Original didn't have HP bars, you knew they were dead when their head exploded etc. (Yes even if you can turn them off it doesn't change the bad design decision). (Look at what health bars did to Assasins Creed games, singleplayer microtransaction EXP boosts LOL) Also why X ray vision and why did the UV lights change to PINK over the originals Blue? Seems like a strange decision by itself, did the playerbase ask for this change? I doubt it. Idk man this went from an instant buy to a hard skip for me. They should have just taken 1's combat and design decisions and improve it. Not this. Anyway thanks Mack get well soon.

Even if you also listed a few positives things about the game like the world, immersion, zombies, parkour,... with the timer, xray, poor performance (with not very good graphic quality), the fact they added Denuvo only 2 days before release, the embargo on coop, that's too many fuckup from their part for me. I loved the 1 so much, i did like 5 runs on it (with the dlcs), and i am about to do another one maybe, but regarding DL2 i am going to wait a "complete version" at very low price (and only if they had removed Denuvo, and fixed the poor performance)

WHAT THE FUCK were they huffing when they came up with that night timer? It COMPLETELY ruins the whole game. The absolute BEST feature of the first game was exploration during the night. It was scary, it was dangerous, and it was extremely fun. The only thing that was bad about it was the fact that it got too easy once you unlocked enough skills. All they needed to do was to expand on the night mechanics of the first game (and the expansion for the first game, man that was good!). Make it work better in co-op, so players would need to work together to survive the night. That would've made an absolutely brilliant game! I hate modern game design. Everything's made for people with short attention spans.

The use of an infection timer at night has really put me off DL2, I have always hated timers. Adding a gimmick timer with a fast countdown which just makes you rush around in a dark building spamming X ray vision is poor. I think they could have added more immersive tension by instead having more traps and howlers in infested buildings and you had a wind up flashlight because batteries were all used up or rusted around the city. The wind up sound would also set off howlers if you were too close to them while winding. I would have still had a infection mechanic but not on a timer instead have ever depleting meter which you have to top up with medication and it depletes more if a Zombie hits or bites you.

Instead of doing all those things you said they probably just went the easy route and added a timer, lol. Of course they'll pass it off as a good thing in their marketing but we all know it's bullshit. I really hope they just get rid of the timer all together. The first game was fine without the timer and I enjoyed being able to relax while I was out at night if I wanted to and just enjoy the atmosphere of the night. Now they want me dancing around like I'm on crack everytime I venture out into the night.

It's astounding how much better the game is since this review, especially the performance. Now that they removed denuvo, I'm usually getting over 100fps with a R3 3300x and RTX 3070 on a 4K OLED. Previously I was getting around 80fps in 1440p and now I'm getting 25% higher fps but at 4k, which is pretty incredible imo. At 1440p I'm maxing out my 144hz refresh rate, and this is with all settings on high or ultra, RTX off and DLSS on quality. I'm really impressed with how much better it's performing for me, and they improved the combat, physics and a number of other things too. The first game wasn't amazing when it released, but Techland was amazing with adding new content and updates/patches. I feel like a lot of games get screwed with their launch day reviews bcuz so many games nowadays are released in unfinished states, which is totally unacceptable and never would've happened in the 90s, but sadly that's just the state of the industry today. I feel like the Internet gave devs an excuse since they could now just patch any issues instead of having to release finished products, but I digress. This game would probably get a much better review from you now, Mack, as the co-op seems to work fine, performance is better, combat has more impact and physics have improved, among other things, plus all the extra content they've added so far. Thanks for the great review as always my friend!
