Trap prep is more work than the actual trapping! I spend weeks of evenings building snares and a full day cleaning and dying RAMs...twice. Great vid.

The hydro dip idea with the wax made my day tomorrow way easier and cheaper!

I have enjoyed the process of preparing traps for the season. I really learned more about fur handling from your videos than any other. You have been a great influence in my getting back in trapping years ago. Thanks

I just showed a new trapper how to use walnuts. I have dye but walnuts are still my favorite.

I have some great memories of spending time with my dad cleaning, dying and waxing traps getting ready for the season. I haven't trapped for about 10 yrs now but enjoy your videos and commenting to my dad about this area looks like it would be great for grey foxes or that wood lot would be a great place to catch coons. Hopefully when life slows down again I can get back into trapping.

Good video ! Not my preferred method ,But like you said it gets the job done .. for those of you who don’t have access to black walnuts or trap dye ,maple leaves do a good job Also ..

I used to Dye 300 Coyote Traps, use lye to clean Wax of your Traps. I use a 30 Gallon Barrel inside a 50 Gallon Barrel with a Propane weed burner. Best set up to Dye Traps with!! Use a bucket of Wax and Heat it till it Smokes, leave your Traps in till they Heat up good gives you a nice even think coat of Wax. You can use the Wax for Years just add a little more to it each Years. Cheers!!

Walnuts are the cheapest dye out there. Just a little time getting them up,but save and dry out them walnuts for holiday baking. Good video man.

This is my 2nd year trapping and I have learned literally everything from you! Thank you so much! I am figuring out coons but I am really struggling with yotes. I have Bridger 1 3/4 single springs. I have a lot of fired but empty sets. Is this “enough” trap? Or do I need some 550’s? Would LOVE a video on this topic! Thanks for everything!

Single spring probably isn't enough. If you don't want to tinker with the traps 550 or 650 is good. If you want to get more involved buy some #4 cs traps and 4 coil and Weld them

Your wax needs to be Hotter, leave your Traps in the Wax longer so it heats them up more and you will get a thinner coat of Wax. Cheers

Love the vids. It seems like you would be a little more efficient if you pulled them out of the boil and went straight into the wax pot while they are still hot. Do they need to cool in between to set the walnut dye? Is that something that could work? Just brainstorming.

do you add dye to water when boiling? I typically boil post season to remove odors and old wax, then in fall I use walnuts to dye then straight into wax pot.

So I just purchased a steel drum that had antifreeze in it at some point. Cut it in half and the inside looks pretty nasty. Corrision. Hit it with a wire brush and the garden hose but the corrosion is still there. Thinking I don't want to put my traps in there. Any suggestions?

I had problems with the wax being too heavy and flaking off the first time I tried it this way. Let your traps heat longer and it's not a problem. It's all about getting the traps hot before pulling them through.
