Congratulations on everything Emma! I've been a long time follower and admirer of your films and work. Wishing you the best of luck in your new studio and with your passionate support of your native wool! Being Welsh I know the pittance our shepherds receive for their wool, and a massive dream of mine is to have a small croft of rare breed, Heritage Welsh sheep. Almost 60 years of age, and still have a dream, which you are constantly inspiring. Thanks so much!

If you have a freezer you can freeze the fresh dye stuff then use the or freeze them until you have time to dry them. Your studio looks wonderful.

hello emma, a few remarks on growing dyeplants : do not assume automatically that weld will sow itself next year, they only do that when they are in the right conditions (chalky and well drained soil), just keep some seeds (you will have lots of seeds) for safety. a bit the same with madder, it grows in my belgium garden with heavy clay, but the harvest is not really worth it. it does not need warmth but it needs a sandy soil. about coreopsis : it gives a lovely, strong orange, but it is quiet a job picking the flowers every 2-3 days, making sure they dry well, etc. I prefer to use dahlias (I don't like them as a flower) but I have a friend with lots of them, I cut a lot of them in once at the end of the season, drying is then just one job not an everyday job. It is now 15 years I dye with plants, in the beginning lots of experimenting, and now I stick to a few sources, mostly what I can pick in the surroundings. good luck with your garden and the dyeing!

Oh thank you! This is very helpful. Do you use a herb dryer for drying or do you use mainly fresh? Interesting about Dahlias, the slugs really seem to like them in my garden so I kind of gave up on them but maybe I should try again. Do you have a favourite variety for dyeing with?

I don't use a herbdryer as I have a Aga-cooker, it is always warm in the kitchen. a herbdryer takes quiet some hours and there is this constant noise (which I hate) I only use a herbdryer if there is no other alternative. I don't think the variety of dahlias does matter, I just don't pick the white ones, but I never did the test if they give colour or not. the bigger the flowers the more dyematerial you have. I grew some small red pompoms because they were the only dahlias I like a bit.I used them both dry or fresh. @@woollymammothfibres

Got my Galway yarn and I love it. I also ordered the book you talked about Timeless Simplicity and started reading it. I can see where he's coming from with everyone having so much stuff...however the world is only 5 to 6,000 years old (not millions) and he kept bringing up the United States not in a good way. I was turned off and will not be finishing the book. But I come for sweet Emma's video's and her gorgeous yarn. 😂

Aww thanks Gwen! haha yes I see where you are coming from, I think perhaps the last chapters were the most interesting and I think he could have expanded on those more rather than so context heavy which was less exciting for me. The sentiment was nice I guess but not a revolutionary book by any means. Wendell Berry is a much better read for this type of stuff. Sorry, you didn't come here for book club haha

Timeless Simplicity by John Lane was published in 2000 but Sarah Ban Breathnach published the book Simple Abundance in 1995 which I read at the time. The simplicity movement goes back a bit further that 2000. And the yarns are gorgeous! And the birds singing too :)🐦

New to your YT channel. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I agree with you - I wear either cotton tops or a soft wool thermal under my woollens… A vest would be a good starter - quick & can be worn from Spring thru to Summer or in my case Autumn thru to Winter. Where can you purchase the Galway wool? ☮️💟 from Sydney, Oz.
