DXO is really good noise reduction. My Sony RX10 IV is usable to ISO 6400 using their noise reduction. The only place it fails is if there is text in the image - it 'smudges' it, but on fine detail like birds feathers and hair - it is unbelievably good. ISO 6400 looks like ISO 200.

With DxO PR4 I can use my PEN-F up to 25600 iso (maxi iso). The result is fantastic. Just set Lens Softness to LOW instead of STANDARD.

Help me understand, please. Is Pure Raw the equivalent of Deep Prime in DXO Photolab software? Also, DXO Photolab software makes optical corrections - Are optical corrections needed for all/most images and does Pure Raw do optical corrections?

DxO PurerAW uses the same Optics Modules as DxO PhotoLab7 does. All DxO software uses those. Optical Corrections can be allpied to all lenses. If it ius needed it is of course a matter of opinion. I think that those are quite good, but it depoends what I am photographing. DxO PureRAW 4 is the only software sio far that has the DeepPrime XD2. PhotoLab7 has DeepPrime XD. Most likely DeepPrime XD2 will be in PhotoLab next fall.

Just like the current DxO Photolab, DxO PureRAW cannot process 14-bit RAW files from the new OM System OM-1 Mark II. I have already reported the bug to DxO. I wonder when the problem will be fixed.

Good afternoon from Dublin , Peter, I have PR Version 1 and have tried to up grade to version 4 but it seems I have to pay the full price ,is this because my original version is too old . Have used PR 1 with Both Olympus and Panasonic and have found it game changing ,thanks for the great web site regards Peter Orford

Yes version 1 is too old to upgrade to 4. If you had version 2 then you can upgrade. I think DXO allow upgrades from up to two previous versions but not older. I`m waiting for Photolab 8 which will probably come along around October/November. I have Photolab 7, just updated to 7.5 and it doesn`t contain DeepPRIME XD2, just XD which I assume will be in PL8.

That's not great news. I wondered why they still wanted £109 after I clicked to upgrade. I only paid £57 for pure raw 1. I can see 4 is better but unless I take ridiculous noisy photos I think the original will still do for me.

@@letni9506 Yes DXO software costs a lot. Might be worth waiting for a black Friday deal or something. If version 1 works fine then stick with it. Often there isn`t that much of a difference between versions.

Does this also mean that version will not get anymore updates? Version 3 also is very unstable for me, like calling up the software from lightroom almost never works (it does nothing for several minutes, then pops up and sometimes works). Do you feel version 4 works more stable in your limited use so far?

Most likely verison 3 gets only Optics Module updates from now on. This is just my guess. It worked fine. I had no issues, but unfortunately I cannot say about the stability with Lightroom. I had so little time with the software and it was beta.

@@arianvangend2536 Just from my own experience with the beta copy, the Lightroom plugin is notably faster and more reliable, although it still has the annoying requirement of sticking the converted photo into a collection. Most of the bugs I came across were tied to the preview mode, but if you stick to the instant option on the plugin it seemed to work well. I did run into an issue with Windows 11 virtual desktop switching breaking processing, but otherwise had no issues with that plugin workflow.

Will Pure Raw 4 upgrades be part of PhotoLab 7 Elite update? Hoping it's not a paid upgrade.

Most likely it will be in the next bigger PhotoLab update . My guess is that it going to be next fall. Is it called photoLab 7.5 or 8 remains to be seen. Most likely the update will have a price.

Is that software Lightroom rival or photoshop or something else?

It's a RAW developer that process your images in a better way than LR. After PureRaw has finished you continue in LR or whatever software you prefer.

Wait a second! I just bought DXO 3 a few days ago. Was that a big mistake? Will I get a free update to 4?

Nope, I had the same situation last year. I bought pure raw 2, and a few weeks later 3 dropped. You can only upgrade for 79€ . I hate dxo for their lousy pricing policy

@@halltorstein yeah I guess. I just think advertising something as ‘lifetime purchase’ and then having a paid update very soon afterwards and doing that every year is more like a subscription model to me.

Dumb question. Does this or can this software replace LR? I like the idea of Topaz where you pay a 1x fee and own it. Not big on adobe subscriptions

No it does not for most of us. If you never do image editing then it might be something. I would recommend you ti test Topaz Photo AI too.

DxO PhotoLab can replace LR though, but the latest version is 7, and I believe the noise reduction there compares to PureRAW 3. PhotoLab 8 will probably feature the improvements from PureRAW 4 (XD2).

If this program is do good, how would you compare and rate it against Capture One?

Capture One is a full editing software like DxO PhotoLab 7. DxO PureRAW cannot be comnpared to C1. PuraRAW does onky global Adjusments (kind of). It is for image enhancments. The funal edit needs to be done wioth other editing software.

@@ForsgardPeteryou know I did stuck with DXO pure RAW2 with my Sony a7IV as I did check in cameras and lenses compatibility on DXO official page and It has shown Pure RAW 2 supports Sony a7IV so I though DXO 3,4 won't support my camera . That means I has mis understood this for years 😅😂

Hi Peter, great review! Actually, I think the new engine makes the image way too clean, i.e. it destroys details! E.g. in the guys face at 5:26, the "artifacts" that are lost in version 4 is the guys beard! Meaing, in version 4, the guy does not have a beard any more but just some brown paint in the face :( And look at the flag at 5:14: The new version looks cleaner for sure, but also totally artificial, almost like these AI generated 'photorealistic' images. Thanks, but no thanks ;) Don't get me wrong, I love PureRaw, but I only use DeepPrime, b/c even the DeepPrime XD model introduces way too many 'artificiality artifacts' into my landscape photography. I had hoped that DxO would solve this obvious problem with XD2, but they seem to have made it even worse. On the other hand, the old DeepPrime model gives naturally looking results which still are much better than any other SW I've tested (Topaz, ON1, even in their current versions). Guess I will wait for version 5, see if DxO got these problems fixed until then, or if we are only looking at AI generated images anyway at that time...
