Lyrics
Well I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
But when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
Well now I'm living wild and dangerously
But I've got plenty of company
The moon comes up and the sun goes down
I can't wait to see the lights of town
'Cause I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
And when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
Well I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
And when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
Hey now, a pretty little girl and a jug of wine
Well that's what it takes to make a honky tonk time
With the jukebox moaning those honky tonk sounds
I can't wait to lay my money down
'Cause I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
But when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
But when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home

I met Dwight yoakum at don fox park in Lebanon TN and I was 12 13 he was so surprised that I knew who he was and what he did. Got to talking about sling blade and everything. He invited me my bro and uncle to a party, but my mom refused to let us go.... And that was the last day I told my mom anything

Yep; and he embraced The Punks all-over... even in Holly"Weird". so, he embodies the REAL spirit of a Rebel, without all of that exclusive/racist/"no outsiders" bullshit, I-tell-you-hwhut, Buford.
I’ve always appreciated that Dwight paid tribute to Johnny Horton with this remake.

They were first considered too rock back in the day when he went big, but it's his music that I still remember... I started with early country in the 80's as a kid and went to rock/alternative. He is honestly the peak of country music and darn it he's just that good!

Still listening to this amazing man in 2023. I grew up with all the good ole fellas from the 80s & early 90s country and Dwight Yoakum was one of my top favs. He made those jeans worth looking at 😊

This is the first song I listened to, it was a no brainer that Dwight Yoakam would be one of my top 5.
Dwight follows in the tradition of Hank Williams, he's just as happy playing in a dingy country bar as he is on stage in Nashville.
This is a great old song done well!
Haven't listend to this song in years, but the chorus of this song just gets stuck in my head sometimes, I don't know why, but I just decided to give it a listen tonight. So glad. God I miss 90s country!

Hello Nancy 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
I'm not even much of a country fan, but this song along with some Hank Williams are bangers!
Dwight Yoakam - the best country artist of all time
This record was suitably retro in 1986 when it came out. Modern country was too modern and this was perfect, still is. We saw Mr Dwight Yoakam back then at Massey Hall. We waited outside his bus after the show. He didn't come out but he sent out some signed pics and we were delighted.

Only discovered Dwight about 1 year ago and have played his music non stop since can't get enough.
I was a toddler twisting my leg to this song at the rodeos. 3.5 decades later, here we are.
he was so young in this video but damn his voice is as good as ever. Really love Dwight's twangy voice. Awesome singer, writer and actor.
Johnny Horton's smiling somewhere.
One of the coolest damn country songs ever. Both Dwight and Johnny Horton versions are excellent.

Went to his concert in Colorado on Thursday, he played this song, absolutely love it
I've never liked Country music, ever. I'm a die-hard rocker. Then I watched Ken Burn's "Country Music", found this, and have now discovered that there is some wonderful Country music. There's so much in common with Stevie Ray Vaughan and this song. This kicks ass!

I love Johnny Horton, but man this version is so good. Dwight is simply wonderful.
Oh mister Dwight…how I love you. 💕. Funny, you’ve been simply a part of my life, since I was, 12? But it was not an overt obsession with you…let’s liken it to this: Someone goes on a trip to Las Vegas. another goes on a trip to Bakersfield. Thing is, overtly, it would appear the person who went to Vegas would have a better time, yea? Well not so fast…seems Bakersfield is visited by this person frequently…so incredible nostalgia forms. And you find yourself drawn back there, time and again. 💕. You ARE the Bakersfield trip. It carries more weight. SO DO YOU! You ARE AN incredibly talented musician and artist. I feel honored every time I sing your songs. They bring me joy, love, fun, lots of dancing, and singing as I learned, so many years ago from YOU. (Well, and the JUDDS). I’m trying to get TACHI PALACE to book me a few weekends…to cover your songs. People NEED nostalgia. And memories of being made to feel good. By you. I only hope, if they agree, that I could perform in a way that FULLY honors YOU! *grew up in Kerman/Fresno/Clovis, ca. Now in Slo county. Any who…you’ll likely never read this….but I wanted to put it here anyway…much love
