DRIVERS need to be careful to avoid a concussion when getting in and out of these pint-sized cars. The Dwarf Car Museum, in Maricopa, Arizona, showcases the life's work of mechanic Ernie Adams. The 74-year-old, from Walthill, Nebraska, built his first road-legal dwarf car in 1965 - out of nine old REFRIGERATORS. Each metal car is hand-built from scratch and takes between 3,000 and 4,000 hours to complete. Ernie has been offered as much as $450,000 (£290,000) for one.

I had the good fortune of meeting Ernie in Maricopa, Arizona many years ago through a coworker of mine. Ernie very graciously showed me his shop and his dwarf cars. The first adjective that came to mind was....renaissance man. Ernie lives his life on his on terms. It was an honor to meet him. The cars are beautiful. A video doesn’t do them justice.

If this isnt the perfect example of being able to do anything we put our minds to then I dont know what is. The fact that he fabricates these parts to this degree of accuracy is nothing short of amazing. I'd love to see Ernie build a muscle car like a 70 chevelle SS or a camaro.

What amazes me about Ernie Adam's cars is that he has maintained the correct proportions which is incredibly complex, and the mind's-eye will tell pretty well anyone what's incorrect. Fantastic workmanship and a fantastically accurate eye, Ernie. Awesome work! :-)

Beautiful little cars built with great skill. I have great respect for Mr Adams work. I have been a motor mechanic for 40 years and I know the amount of work that has gone in to building those fantastic cars, I would love to visit the museum. You have some great car builders in America.

Sloopy .Dog, I too have spent at least 40 years in the mechanic business, retired in 2006. I feel the same, I would love to visit that museum too. The man's got a skill and patience that knows no bounds. When I first watched the video which was much longer, that was in 2009 and I had moved back to Michigan from Las Vegas. He's over in Arizona, and I didn't take to time to look him up. I'm still kicking myself. lol.

These hand crafted car's are both incredible and very much art!. I don't want to say that they're priceless but I can't even begin to think of a price worthy of his craftsmanship.. I truly wish I possessed the skill set to do/build stuff like this or rather make it look like the real deal as he has.

Wow, this is just too cool!!! I absolutely love them all, and find this story to be super inspirational! I've always worked on cars and have rebuilt over 30 classics in my days as an autobody and restorations painter, and I've always loved metal work, so I think I may have been bitten by the little car bug! Don't worry about me copying anything though, I think I've got Japanese Import Fever after growing up in Hawaii my entire life, so I think I'll start with a miniature Datsun 280ZX...Thanks so much!
