Dvořák's second piano quartet in Eb-Major, Op. 87, was composed in only one month (10 July - 19 August) in 1889, after the composer was urged by his publisher to debut a new instrumental ensemble. The work was subsequently premiered on the 17th of October 1890 in Frankfurt am Main.
