I tried the lens cleaning way to no avail. This video is great. I did not know about the potentiometers in dvd players. I adjusted mine so hopefully that was all I needed.

Great video, but I didn't really see where you touched the dvd pot contacts with the multimetre contactors, to read them off.

Good vid, thanks! I have a number of CD and DVD players that all died with "no disk" error after working for a year or two. I'll try screwing with them this way. I did bring one (TV unit) back to life a few years back by washing the lens with the q-tip just like you suggest in your vid. Gave it a few more months' life! Frying the laser is not a concern as they're dead anyway. At least you'll learn something, like taking them apart. Again, thanks for a great vid.

Good information, but Instead of talking about how to measure & adjust the potentiometers, why didn’t you actuallyshow is how to do that? I couldn’t visualize exactly what you meant-I wish you had shown us that whole process. You could have been doing it while taking about it. Would have been much more helpful to me. .

by hard, (T.V. DVD Player) YOU mean a lot more disassembly require. CD player will work fine. How many people play CD's on a T.V. but DVD, A LOT! So that laser got a lot of used. +Robert Mattison it should work with most lasers. if its too far gone then it will need a new one.

okay, can you please tell me, how long a laser should last, Please understand, I just wondering if the company this MFG. these products put in the cheapest laser, to keep the product cost low the customer . I must say, though I do like the fact that you take time to make these videos and shows use something that we can do, to extent the life out of the DVD player. How cool is that.

+Robert Mattison thanks. it depends on the use. if your playing 5 movies a day. it may only last a year or two with most dvd players. just depends on how much u use it. a laser will burn out eventually. doesn't really matter about the manufacture much. in my opinion.

anyone know why it only shows the CD's in Blk & White? having that issue with mine.

I have two dvd players. 1 that doesn't do anythibg a mintek that shows the green light when I plug it in but nothing happens after. Disc doesn't spin. Monitor is black and no sound. The other dvd player is a audiovox that plays the dvd I hear sound but the sceen is black and kibda grayish.

What do you mean during the multimeter section when you say "put it down to 6"?

+piethouse if its at 7 ohms. then turn it down to 6.8ohms. then try.. if it doesn't work then go down to 6.6ohms. go in .2 increments.

motor is bad. you might be able to take apart the motor and oil the shaft with a bit of sewing machine oil to get it to spin again. put the cd in. does the cd spin freely or with a bit of resistance?

it could be a bad motor.

I had that exact same dvd player 11 years ago when they were still popular and it stopped working so I bought another one and used the old one as a slave unit. good times

yes. only use 90% isopropyl alcohol. or 70% is fine too

Better to use denatured alcohol (available at your local hardware store). "Denatured" means pure. Ordinary isopropyl alcohol from your drug store is not pure, it has a large amount of water in it, which means it'll take much longer to evaporate than the denatured variety. It might also have impurities in it, depending on what other things you've used it for. Denatured alcohol is always your best bet for cleaning sensitive electronics and optics.

Hello. I have a DVD with the reader and it has a pair of screens. The problem is that the reader plays sound without picture. Even when I turn it on, the DVD logo does not appear on the screens. I tried connecting the reader to the TV via the AV input, nothing sound without picture. Are there any solutions to fix the malfunction. Thank you

that's normally the problem. cds don't require much to read unlike dvds require much more power to read. so either cleaning or adjusting the resistance will fix it. or a new laser would be amazing if you could actually get the new parts.

Had a Spectronik portable DVD bought in 2007, forgotten in the locker for 13 years Just unpacked to day ,but always read wrong disc. Open the disc receptacle and I could see there some Velcro tape over the Len and been melted. After spending a whole day try to figure out why it doesn't play, I could tell the lens doesn't appear to be lit, so garbage. These craps with generic name were really crap. Anybody has an idea about.. Thank you.

+Hilda Enzweiler the power connecter usually brakes away from the board inside. have to take it apart and resolder the connection.

Our Emerson VHS / DVD player shows a "grainy" picture when playing DVD's. Would this fix our problem?

Yes i did follow your instructions and cleaned it using your method in the video but still no luck. When it says "open" the lazer thing moves a bit but bumps into the spinner

yea the laser is too weak to read a dvd. try puting a cd in and see if it will play music.

The best thing to use folks, is Perfect Duster, which is the same compressed air in a can that you use to clean your keyboard on your computer..I tried the alcohol, Qtip deal, and it didnt work..sprayed lens once with Duster, read CD instantly. Can find this stuff at Office Max, Staples...

Put new drive in. Comes up with error no: TDERR035 The DVD has a different region code than your player, and accordingly cannot be played
