AWESOME! 😃😃😃👍👍👍 Good news Kim! I’ve been watching some episodes of Thomas and Friends in Dutch a few times and I think I’m somewhat getting better at understanding most of it! XD 😃😃😃Granted I’ve memorised most of the English dub from Ringo Star from seasons 1 to 2 and Michael Angelis from season 3 until god knows when he stopped! XD Oh, and did you know the Americans HAD to have an American English dub cuz they just quote; “Don’t fully understand how we English talk”? Bah! More like they don’t appreciate how we talk! 😝😝😝😂😂😂 How hard is it to understand the scousers?! People from Liverpool?! 😝😝😝😂😂😂 And what kind of Dutch accent does Erik De Zwart, the Dutch narrator of Thomas and Friends have?! XD

"dus" sounds like a cognate of the English "thus" which is also used the same way. Ik ben moe dus ik wil slapen I am tired thus I want to sleep however, as English-speakers know, "thus" is used more in formal language, especially in writing more than in speaking wherein "so" is more common, followed by "therefore" and "hence".

A small correction to what I said about how "thus" is used, in English it means more like "in this way or manner" rather than "so", its use changed in English, it is used to introduce a consequence of an action, although it still is a cognate of "dus". E.g.: the country's government was riddled with maladministration and corruption, thus it was eventually overthrown by the people.

dank je voor het video! Why you didn't tell about a word "omdat"? As I know, it has the same meaning as "want", but as I understood is used for objective reasons, and "want" is used for subjective reasons. Is my understanding correct?

In this video I am also talking about "omdat": kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6Sh2KacqMXJeqw.html I didn't mention "omdat" in this video, because "omdat" is for subordinate clauses and in this video I am only talking about conjunction words for main clauses :) You can use "want" and "omdat" both for subjective and objective reasons. We also have "doordat" and that one is only for objective causes :)

Omdat is for a subordinate clause and want for a main sentence. I’ve made a video about “the structure of subordinate clauses” :)

Maar in het lied Vrij als de wind (Ancora) zij zingen "Kom mit ons, en vaar maar mee" en deze zin maar is niet "but". And I can't seem to finish what I'm trying to say in Dutch. Whenever google translate translates the phrase "en vaar maar mee" I get "and sail along" but it always translates maar as but when maar is the only word to translate. What does maar mean in the phrase "en vaar maar mee"?

Maar is also being used as a “modal particle”, a filler word. It doesn’t have a meaning on iets own then, but it makes the meaning of the entire sentence a bit more “gentle”. Without “maar” it would be “vaar mee”, which sounds like an order. But now with “maar” it’s the opposite, it’s sweet and an invitation :)

Ben echt fan van je filmpjes! Alleen jammer dat ze tegenwoordig vaak gericht zijn op Engelstaligen. Maakt ze minder bruikbaar voor mensen met een andere taalachterstand. Maar desalniettemin, keep up the good work!!

Ik spreek Engels, maar spreek ook een beetje Afrikaans. Ik geniet van je video's en begrijp bijna alles, ook al is de Nederlandse grammatica heel anders dan het Afrikaans

Ik vind het echt jammer dat je „want“ en „omdat“ met „because“ moet vertalen. In het Duits hebben we preciezere vertalingen voor de twee woorden. „Denn“ en „weil“. Ik hou van jouw video‘s 🎉
