I played guitar unusually well when I was in high school - not so great anymore - and had a good 8-10 months of hanging around with wasted friends. This is the EXACT vibe, and is why I love this particular video so much. I know a version of green shirt dude. And he was AWESOME. He was funny as hell and made fun of everything, but would also get into it and be your biggest supporter. I recognize all of these people and love them. They make the video. And if you are playing and your friends are hooting and hollering, it is the absolute BEST feeling in the world.

A bit of a recap.... Billy Strings (William Apostol) won a grammy in 2021 and two more in 2022 (album, album, roots performance) Billy Strings and his bluegrass band opened for Metalica at Lollapalooza in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Played with pretty much all of his heros who are still alive now. Sold out every show since COVID opened back up and probably a year before that.

@@InsomniacReacts For what's next, I can't disagree with "Turmoil and Tinfoil' Live from Music City roots... but I would like to point out one video I can tell you would really enjoy whether you react to it or not. Check out a couple of other Billy Strings videos first, but then check out "Billy Stirngs and Tommy Emmanuel" at Grey Fox 2019 - (Says 2020 in the description but it's off) . You can tell Tommy didn't really know who Billy was for sure yet, this is the first time they meet. ... this is the the long version of the video out there kzread.info/dash/bejne/rINsq9mJkqSye5c.html The story here is that Billy was appointed to "new artis of the year' or something and was given the assignemnt of sitting in with every single band that performed. this was right around his break out and pushed that along but some of the groups really didn't know much of anything about him, and he walks up and plays with them unrehearsed, cold. In this video you can see Tommy telling Billy what song they will play and what key it is in .. and Tommy asks if he has a pick-up in his guitar - this is stone cold raw off the cuff.

Don't slag the eternal hero in the back. It's you, it's me, it's everyone else watching this for free. Admit that it wouldn't be half as good without our friendly toker riding along barefoot keeping time. This is Billy Strings way before he became known. Cheers 🍺

I get the guy in the background. You live like this every day and it's just part of the world. I have old videos of talented friends playing with people talking in the background and drunk friends trying to sing along.

Green Shirt guy is the subject of most of the comments on that video if I remember correctly. I second the opinion of checking out Turmoil and Tinfoil at Music City Roots.

Glad you understood Billy, disappointed you didn't understand the genius of the green shirt dude.

Definitely do the "Turmoil and Tinfoil" (Music City Roots) video that one is the best. My other favorites are "Love & Regret" and "Wargasm" you can find official videos for those, I think.

That guitar never gets put away wet, he’s got some magic fingers for sure!

My guy went from the basement of some random party to the Grand Ole Opry, playing this song with a full band. And everyone's known a Green Shirt Guy or been too high/too drunk to realize you're out of your depth. :D

Turmoil and Tinfoil live from Music City Roots is the next song you should review and then move on to Meet Me at the Creek, Taking Water, Heartbeat of America, Watch It Fall (official video is amazing), Hide & Seek, Love & Regret, In the Morning Light, and my personal favorite, Away From the Mire.

@@InsomniacReacts just do away from the mire. While everything else might have an emotional feel, and so does away from the mire, this song just shows Billy at his best. No offical video unfortunately, but there is an animated video which is pretty dope.

The best version of Away From the Mire is the one he played at Lollapalooza 2022 when he opened for Metallica. There's a KZread video available of the entire 1 hour set. Away From the Mire starts at about 4:50 into the video. Billy always plays his best live and so does his band.

@@InsomniacReacts "Every song he's ever done"... for most artists a list like that maybe... Billy never plays the same set list. He and every member of the band can play thousands of blue-grass and country standards and do amazing improvisations. Even with his own songs, Billy already has a deep repertoire. AND like the Gratefull Dead they often change songs up and fans have their favorite performances. You can dip your toes... but Billy Strings is a DEEEEEP dive... basically Billy is the whole history of Country Music gathering the threads of tradition from Doc Watson to the Grateful Dead and wrapping into a package of an under 30 year old.

Your comments on stoned dude are hilarious. BTW- I love "Mr" Strings!!! Billy is amazing.

Billy is s beast... Try Summertime with Billy and Marcus King or Turmoil and Tinfoil

Great tune and nice intro to Marcus at Carters vintage guitars.

Out of all his versions of this song this is my favorite version of Billy Strings, love this song and his song The Preacher & The Bear, same clothes, same couch, no guy in green shirt even though I love what he brings to this video

It's a shame the background guy does not party in a basement to this guy's liking. We all need to learn how to do things the way this guy wants.

He has a section in the country music hall of fame here in Nashville. I tried to see him last year at a small venue and resell tickets were going for $400+. Needless to say i didn’t get to see him lol

This is from 10 years ago he's a party Billy's on Willy Nelsons Outlaw tour at the moment,and just won artist of the Year a the American Music Awards to go along with his IBMA awards and Grammy awards.yeah hes still playing only to sold out shows now.

And, per an article I read a couple of days ago, will now be booked in arenas. He quickly sells out all seats virtually everywhere he performs. I started watching him about 3 years ago. Wasn't a real fan of bluegrass, but I LOVE talent and Billy has super skills in multiple realms: songwriting, singing, performing, generosity and string wizardry. He's amazing.

This was very enjoyable for me. Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. As you may have already discovered, he does have a career, real videos and a tour (he may have just completed it.). This video was how I discovered him after it was suggested at the end of a video I was watching of a women playing the hell out of some spoons. (That's for another day, lol). Anyways, I recommend Turmoil and Tinfoil to listen to next by him if your interested. He's accompanied by a banjo, large bass? And a couple other guitar players. 🤘💀🤘 RHEC

Watch him play some electric with Bill Kreutzmann from the grateful dead. Look up Grateful Mahalo especially the China cat into Thunder recording. Robert hunter left some lyrics to Bill when he died and Bill gave the Lyrics of Thunder to billy to write a song that they initially played at that gathering for bills birthday.
