DuskDuster™ quazisonic whistle rocket - 1lb sodium salicylate whistle rocket pressed on a BP spindle

This rocket was extremely fast and a little strange. Directly after the core burn, it stopped its whistling for a period before it then picked it up again, and the whistling frequency was also slightly undulating during the delay increments.
Quite interesting.
The sodium salicylate whistle used wasː
70% potassium perchlorate
2Ƽ% sodium salicylate
2% brown iron oxide
2% petroleum jelly
1% butylated hydroxy toluene ❲antioxidant stabilizer❳
The delay increments contained coarse titanium sponge as per usual.
The tiny 2Ƽg report charge wasː
60% potassium perchlorate
20% -32Ƽ mesh magnesium flake
1Ƽ% red cedarwood charcoal
Ƽ% elemental sulfur

    You were right to assume that these rockets would go close to supersonic because they most certainly do get very close at launch. They’re unhinged and lightning fast little buggers.

    _Yes!_ The sodium sali propellant I used here was a very high power one. It normally would C.A.T.O. but with the magic of waxed tubes, the impossible becomes plausible‥ 🔥 _⚡️_

    Hey man! Does BHT works on every whistle composition? As i dont have red gum, i use BHT for replacement

    Yes, you can! It’s a universal antioxidant agent for basically all whistle compositions. You can also use it in place of red gum for these purposes, as previously outlined.

    @@blackpowderMix Well, that’s a piece of cake… Just take any of your normal KHP formulations you use and replace 3% of the phthalate with the BHT preservative‥ Does the job perfectly, and it’s easy to remember!

    @@ShortFuseMan thanks! How about the idea of putting perlite? Ive seen couple videos from Rocket Test that he’s using perlite. Red gum helps to bind the composition and act as stabilizer as you said but bht act as stabilizer alone. He said that putting perlite will help to lower the required pressure to solidify the fuel grain.

    @@blackpowderMix Perlite easily acts as a compaction aiding agent, which helps aid in the pressing process, that’s correct and true. It also behaves as a bunking agent, extending the amount of propellant you have available in the end. These are the pros of perlite. The cons of perlite are the facts that it compromises overall propellant density and subsequent energy density due to the fact that more of your propellant’s fuel grain is now dead weight, since perlite isn’t a fuel, nor does it add any gaseous decomposition products to the propellant combustion system. It’s an already oxidized arrangement of various assorted mineral oxides, so it simply disassociates in the context of it’s place in the fuel grain matrix. Regarding the material known as red gum, it is a significantly compelling substance as a propellant additive as it proceeds to act as a triactive agent, in the manner that it’s simultaneously a binder, combustion catalyst, and preservative of the propellant due to its slight antioxidant properties. Overall, red gum is a very useful and versatile chemical. However, when analyzing it’s preserving properties and antioxidant capabilities compared with BHT, BHA, and TBHQ ❲the tert-butylated aromatics❳ and strategic isatoic anhydride, it’s significantly less effective. Therefore, to obtain the full spectrum of advantages and multigated shelf-life potential, both red gum and one of the advanced antioxidants/free-radical scavengers should be employed in the propellant’s composition.
