+krogdog Duran Duran does not get the respect they deserve. The Chauffeur is one of the best songs ever. They get written off as pop, but really they are New Wave of the highest order.

Loved Duran Duran when we were teens and young adults. Still love their music so much that decided to use it in our latest short, 2022 year in review. This group was part of our youth and brings back such amazing memories, so it is always nostalgic to hear them and this song, love their rendition of this amazing classic. When this came out I watched the video very very closely every chance I could, because I kept wanting to confirm it was him (also, I was totally a Roger fan, so the glimpses brought my inner 14-year-old back to the fore). The whole band in this is just in top form, and one of my favorite covers by any band. It's just so gorgeously done.

I was 17 years old when I first heard this song for the first time back in 1995. I fell in love with the song immediately and bought the single that very same weekend. I can still remember the ice cream cone drawing on the cover of the single. I had no idea it was a Lou Reed cover at the time. I thought it was such a sweet, romantic love song, the kind you dedicate to your high school sweetheart on the radio. It was until many years later as an adult that I realized the dark undertones with the final lyrics "You are going to reap just what you sow." Amazing lyrics and amazing layered performance by Duran Duran. I love this band to pieces. ❤❤❤

I have been pondering over that line, "you're going to reap just what you sow". What does it mean to you in the context of this song? To me it feels like someone is causing trouble, cheating, or betraying someone and they are about to destroy all of the perfection the rest of the song describes, ie that peaceful contentment in a relationship when everything is so in harmony between two people that even undertaking the simplest activities together is just pure pleasure. Sad but not uncommon in tales of love.

@@edwinalambkin6088 As a teenager, I interpreted its meaning as "you are so wonderful that you will receive wonderful things." As an adult I interpreted it similar to you, someone who you deeply love but has hurt you, basically a veiled threat. However i recently heard that Lou Reed might have intended the song to be a metaphor for drug addiction. The verses and the chorus describe the pleasure of being high and the final ominous lyric describes coming down or overdosing. That interpretation is even darker.

@@josharguello4313 thanks so much for your reply. I can relate to the way your interpretation of the line changed throughout the years. We start out with a positive and innocent outlook and the years and our experiences just rob us of this. Similarly, when I hear Nico Santos singing Would I Lie to You, I hear it as a song where someone promises the world but ultimately disappoints the person they are making the promise to, whereas he says it is written as an expression of true love for his partner the interpretation all comes down to eour experience. And oh yes, I had heard that drug addiction interpretation (possibly the writers intention) but I had probably discounted it because it's not part of my experience.

@@edwinalambkin6088 The final line of the chorus is also interesting and discordant with the tone of the rest of the song. "You just keep me hanging on" is a weird thing to say to someone or something that provides you with so much love and happiness. To me it implies that whatever this relationship is, it is unbalanced. Someone is giving more than they receive, someone is going to get hurt, it foreshadows the final ominous line in the song.

Really, the only Duran Duran song I like.

See John crawling on the floor ... and diamond stars shine glitter bright 🤩 What a perfect version/song. The rock critics were whining because some pop fodder had axed their holy cows. I didn't care. I loved THANK YOU, and I still do. With Roger on drums and Warren on guitar it's my favourite Duran Duran line-up as well. It wasn't meant to be. Wash away the rusty disease of your brown town days in our silver sea

Beautiful cover of the Lou Reed classic. Duran Duran had proved to everyone that they had truly matured into rock gods in their own right in the 90's by the time this album was released. They are one of the rare instances where a band initially promoted to the teen market had evolved without alienating their fan-base.

20th June 2024. Happy 64th Birthday dearest John Taylor

I’m a “reborn Duranie” Let me explain .. I just spent a few weeks of really listening with focus to every song And watching live performances It was a real epiphany moment I was smacked by the absolute brilliance of the whole package that is Duran Duran.. just everything about this band 😎 I revisited their history and evolution and listened to interviews.. now I love them and their music even more They are absolutely tied for my #1 favorite at this point .. the diversity of what they do is unreal I have loved them since they took MTV by storm ..but I never explored further than the obvious hits of the day I never owned the albums,cds or cassettes 😂or saw them live in the early days .. (I’m am really kicking myself for all of that right now) Fast forward to the 1990’s…. I’m working in a restaurant and the cook always had an college alternative rock station on and I would hear Ordinary world ,Too much information and Come Undone were played frequently along with songs from Tears for fears Raoul and the kings of Spain and multiple songs from Depeche Mode’s Violator album 3 fantastic “80’s bands” that had these incredible “comeback” albums , that still sounded relevant and current .. all 3 had aged well, beyond the “80’s new wave” label ..They all had faded from my memory and I stopped following what they were up too.. I have no explanation why since I loved them Out of sight out of mind I guess?🤷‍♀️ At least it was “comeback” for me 😂 From there I took deep dive back into the catalogs of all 3 bands ..and it was a freaking Gold mine ❤ They are always in rotation and I’ll be seeing them on September Counting down the days !!!😎🎶❤️

honestly, one of the best covers i have ever heard and i'm glad lou reed thought it was great despite what a bunch of snobby music critics thought of it. plus, it has a brief appearance from roger taylor before he returned to the band full-time years later.

"Thank You" is a BRILLIANT Album with excellent Duran Duran-covers. Some pseudo-music-critics wrote a couple of bad reviews in 95 - they should lean back and listen instead of writing crap.

This is the most polarizing album they ever made. For me, there are 6 AMAZING songs on the record and six really TSERRIBLE songs on the record.

John Rappaport Warren, as great as he is, and as important as an asset he was to Duran, he can't hold a candle to the musical chemistry between Andy Taylor and the rest of the band.
