Sharing the inspiring story of Uma Shankar,
His contact - / moolaroots

Uma shankar, who is in the process of building a zero percentage cement home for himself. He has trained himself through our workshops so that he can work by his own hands for his home. He also trained his workers who were experienced in conventional construction to work with Mud. Look out for the design of the home he has made as per his needs and how he has faced various challenges in shelter making.
Thannal do meet people who lead a very busy and fast life in cities, not really having time to build a home for themselves. With their genuine interest in living in a home, made of natural materials, they inquire for support in the form of consultants, natural builders, artisans, workers, material vendors, and the list goes on. But, if we see in many rural areas, we can find many owners building their home using cement and concrete, in a conventional way, where the responsibilities for building the home are handled by the owner, as per his needs. But in the case of making a natural building, he/she needs to find answers suitable for his land, available materials, and climate, to make decisions, just like in farming. So is it possible to build a home without having no prior experience in natural construction?
We would recommend everyone who wants to build a natural home in India to look upon his way of working and experience he has gained through this journey.
Location: near Hosur, 60-70 km away from Bangalore.
Area of the house: 1,700 square feet
Cost: Rs. 11.5 Lakh presently, electrical, plumbing, final coat plastering and flooring works are remaining.

Congratulation to persons who built this mud house, zabardast ideas. From Pakistan.
This is very inspirational!! Being an IT professional in Banglore myself.. i find this to be such an achievement by mr. uma shankar. Looking forward to attending Thannal worshops whenever the covid situation subsides.
Thank you. Great ! You have demonstrated eco-friendly attitude. Climate change is an urgent concern, now.
I am planning to build 2 small rammed earth houses in my farm and invite people to come and stay for a day ,feed the cows , work on the field ,play with the dogs and sit by the river and enjoy the breeze. These houses are going to be surrounded by Kapoor trees which keeps pests away and give a gentle sweet smell and health benefits

Lots of love❤❤❤❤and respect
Sir very nice this eco friendly home 🙏🙏
Back to village culture 👍
just beautiful
I really love it .... And I dream my house become a mud house 🏡
I love all of the video even though I’m only halfway through and what really stood out to me was the intelligence of this individual through the entire process peppered dominantly to prepare the land prior to ever establishing a foundation to build a home Especially for someone who intends to farm because there’s a lot that happens with soil like erosion depletion lack of nutrients corruption from outside sources that needs to be addressed prior to planting anything Now, based on the source of this comment which is of course your truly, you might think ridiculous comment for a woman of 53 years of age who lives in a car what could she possibly know. Well just remember, some of us are like bamboo plant the seed and you think the seed has failed that it is preparing itself in the underworld within itself to take the world by storm and when it surfaces when it breaks through the soil it begins to climb in reach for the sun and people will think it was a miracle where did this phenomenal plant come from look how strong it is it can be used for everything look how beautiful it is that’s me And those like me, who decide to build their foundation after they prepare their soil which can take a very long time and that is before they ever plant one seed. Your intention in this world in this life is of great importance So make sure you invest in yourself first and then slowly but surely create your masterpiece This is a very beautiful example of someone who did Just that 🙏
scripted well , music.. Explaination by all... Keep going
Very Inspirational

I wanted to see th final look of so much hard work.
Very nice.
Very inspiring, but at the cost of 11 lac, we can have a similar design maybe for less. Keeping the cost aside, your story and struggles are quite inspirational
Hii... Just a request for ur upcoming workshops...it would be really good if u keep a week-long or 10 days or whatever is suitable to teach everything at one go...coz traveling and coming for one or two days workshops is really challenging for people like me from far... Thanks
After education one learns to live with nature what our people lived/live still in harmony with nature without pollution.
lovely
Good job.
Great Sir!
Very nice towards to nature🌿🍃 PLS make another video of the present house 🏠 we want to know how it's look
Nice beautiful
Inspired, once covid ends need to have a training from thannal and create my dream natural house as well.

Really inspiring. Appreciated. Looking forward for the upcoming thannal workshop announcement. Thanks.
Uma Shankar, ofcourse you involved in everything because it's your house. This video doesn't look like it's made to take the idea of mud building to more people, rather it looks like it made to show Uma shankar did it all.

Love from Rajasthan 🚩🚩
Though it is not a new technique, it's just a reinventing older one... But I don't find him installing any pillars at the corners... I've seen old mud houses in my native (western ghats) having built using pillars.. First entire structure was built using pillars, only after pillars and beam installation, walls were built wherever desired.... It's relatively a faster process when compared to the construction method shown in video... Anyway a great job done👌👍

How it compares with earth bag projects ? costwise, usewise, timewise. What are points to further reduce cost, yet have better ergonomics. I am planning an offgrid earthbag project in land integrated with permaculture
How often should we do touch ups for the exterior walls and interior walls.
i'm really impressed , really wonderful work , expect to share a video after completion thank you

Is this kind of houses resist under different kinds of climatic conditions like heavy rainfall, heavy wind blows etc.. and in olden days my grandparents used to repair houses yearly once like changing wooden sticks, roof plates and coloring.. I mean for how many years we can live in these houses without any repair??
Oh my god 11.5 lakhs for mud house. The most expensive thing is labour and wood it seems.
Ultimate work
I have questions regarding the strength of it during flood and rain stagnation and insect encroaching. i am asking in positive way. Just wanted to know. adhelam epdi rectify panringa??

Nice. my house in Karwar is mud house with thickness of walls are one and half feet built in 1937.my suggestion is use of interlocking mud bricks with 10 percent cement which are made by machine .These type of bricks are widely used in Brazil. This way construction is easier and faster.
@ThannalNaturalHomes

Its a zero % cement building . If you try many people will try to reach like your Karwar home built in 1937. May be your young generation also ....thannal.com/about-thannal/

Thank you and yes I agree with you. I do not have either education or experience in construction. This is my first and a DIY where we have not engaged an architect or an engineer to design this house. considering this, I am sure you will appreciate our work.
