I have been using this set for over a year. it's my most used set due to it's durability. it doesn't have near enough bass for electronic or hip hop. there are some bass tones you can't even hear. it's great for jazz or acoustic music. if you have an ifi amp with xbass it makes them perfect for the more bass heavy artists in my wide ranging music taste. otherwise the spinfits help add a more punchy bass, while tips with a wider hole like the xelastics or foams tame the bass a good bit.

Is the $169 price premium of these over the DK-2001 justified?

As far as I'm concerned, definitely. The signature is closer to reference (I find the bass a bit too bloated and the highs a bit too piercing/forward on the 2001), and you also get the additional connection adapters included with the 3001 Pro.

Have you had any time to listen to the Dunu Dk-2001? That's much more in my price range

2001 review will be coming in about a week. For the price it's pretty good too... Sonically it sits right between the 3001 Pro and the original 3001. But, if I had to spend some money, the ER2XR (or SE for more absolute neutrality) is where I'd spend it over the 2001.
