Dungeons and Dragons: Orium Dragon

Rare, mostly unheard of, the metallic Orium dragons are very intent on remaking the world into a reflection of its former glory. Draconic glory, that is.

I'd love to see a video on how the dragon flights all fit together. If this is a metallic dragon, then it must be one related to the Metallic family, right? But I've also heard about Adamantium Dragons which are actually a type of Planar Dragon. I'd love a video that just goes over the categories or families of dragons. I call them "flights" but I'm not sure if that is even the right term or not. One last question, aren't all dragon tails prehensile?

  • @AJPickett

It is way more complicated than most people think, not only are there the inherited traits and obligations, but dragons are also part of social networks, the real movers and shakers of those are the various Xorvintaal factions, there are also different religious factions and groups concerned with taking control of this planet or that... they are both a species of reclusive monsters, and also a transdimensional civilisation of advanced prime material beings.

  • @venkelos6996

This was a very interesting video, as I've never heard of Orium Dragons before; I was one of those "skip 4e; long live GOOD Forgotten Realms" folks, and so this was neat, but honestly, I think my favorite parts of this were the Ancient Empires references. I've been a mostly focused fan of FRCS since the late 90s; it's the setting I've always most preferred, and as cool as "current" lore is, the wizard in me always enjoys snippets of story from those aged, long passed kingdoms, often supported by fearsome, maybe even twisted magic, that no longer exists today. Things like Netheril, Imaskar, Narfell, and the like typically make me perk up in videos.😊 One of my own favorite 5e supplements is Heroes of Baldur's Gate, and what I love most from that is Epic Backgrounds. While Awakened Clone is my favorite, bar none, another one is called Last Emperor, I think. I don't actually like it, based on ots mechanics, but the idea it represents is wonderful. The Empire is doomed, and they know it, but they will have the last laugh. A scion is placed into suspended animation, to awaken later, and reclaim their birthright...but they don't wake up, and instead sleep for centuries. Once they do revive, they are a holdover of forgotten legend, and practically an amnesiac anachronism, for how little they'll know about the world they now find themselves in, though they still want to achieve their dream. The idea of some time-spiraled noble, from one of these dead, and sometimes maligned, legendary nations, trying to figure out who they'll be, and what they'll do, I'd great, and as someone who at least feels they have a "good" working knowledge of what Netheril, Imaskar, and the like were like, it could be fun to play something that actually knows what others only suspect, and only read in books, possibly written by dubious authors. I'm sorry for that pointless ramble; in between stuff, right now, so a chance to actually BS is always one I seem to take, but on topic, these dragons are cool! Again, I never heard of them, before, and I like how they do some different things, compared to others, like summoning an elemental out of their breath, and using it both to fight, and ad a maniple, because why TK when you command cloud kill to serve?😊 I also appreciate the number of values you gave out; I could easily compile the stats, if I needed, and use this, without having to poke through D&D Beyond, or the like. I even got some "radiation of the Wyrm" vibes, from White Wolf's Werewolf: the Apocalypse line, when you started mentioning polonium. Thanks for the fun video, and another neat draconic mindset!

If the orium dragons are preparing for what they feel is the inevitable return of dragons to dominance, could this result in a civil war among dragons? Obviously evil dragons and those neutral dragons, who see subjugating humanoids as "for the greater good" & for the humanoids own best interests, would likely go along. But what about good aligned dragons & neutral dragons who are partons & advocates of peace & freedom for all? Also, what about prism & force dragons? Where would they stand or is it so far beneath their notice that they wouldn't really care?

Since they have a flare for grand and archaic lairs you'd think they'd have to contend with other powerful neighbors, or possible former tenants looking for revenge. Kick a mummy lord out of his grand temple and you better bet his devotees will be looking for blood for generations. Although having grand trappings means you get to show off your guards and servants. You're not a boss Orium dragon unless your lair is guarded by a pair of Bronze Serpents (Monster Manual 2 pg. 40) made of gold and platinum heisted from some Yuan-Ti temple.

I spent the entire video wondering what real life metal were the orium dragons based on, the end was a very nice surprise I personally would add some radiant damage by proximity to its presence, a simple d6+2 for each round spent within 5 ft of it perhaps, but it is regardless a fascinating thing, love this series on dragons you've got going ill be expecting the next one anxiously! Edit: Random question, are there any more radioactive dragons? Like do thorium or uranium dragons exist within the multiverse?

such good timing, just started DMing a new campaign and one of the main NPCs is a youngish Orium dragon polymorphed into a human form. He has built up an organisation to build up his hoard and gain power, after being chased out of his old lair by another dragon. He is biding his time, building his power, and the player characters will make excellent pawns in his plan to kill the usurper who stole his lair.

pure, logical deduction. There are no radioactive materials in D&D, yet in the multiverse, Earth exists and it has different laws of physics because radiation exists on Earth, but there is NO magic at all (that's why the Imaskari could so easily control the Mulan people abducted from Earth, the Mulan had no ability to use magic, that ability has been basically bred into them over time), also, there is no Adamantite on Earth, yet we have these super heavy metals which are radioactive as hell that doesn't exist on any of the worlds of D&D that have magic present (which is basically all of them). So, yeah, if you bring an Adamantine weapon to Earth? It's probably radioactive.
