Emperor here. Thanks for the game, was a lot of fun! Great job editing, too!
7:45 "The objective here is not to win but make other miserable" Yep that's Dune allright.

How so?
Pidge here. Loved the classical music copium montage - pretty much exactly what was going on in my mind at the time XD
What a great game that was. I'm glad we got to show off all the crazy things that make it such a unique experience.
What the intro taught me. In North America: Dune. In England: June.
Emperor + Guild alliance will never not be terrifying. The sheer economic power is crazy, and in my experience requires careful and complex maneuvering by the other players to meaningfully stop.

I was thinking "no dramatic use of Treachery cards?", then that Truthtrance clutch play blew my mind
I have played this game a lot, and every time I play it, I learn new strategies. Guild is actually my favourite faction, because of their dominance in shipping. This was an excellent showcase of the game....and one of the best uses of Truthtrance I have ever seen!
Bro that is the most clever Truthtrance I've ever seen and I play a lot of Dune
I'm so glad this game has gotten more traction. I picked it up after seeing the MCDC plays a bit before new Dune movies came out. Such a fun deep game. Our play group loves Risk 2210 AD and this as our favorite longer form games
This was really well edited, especially for a player like me who hasn't played yet.
fun video. I'm a little jealous. I've owned a copy of the original AH version for about 15 years and have tried unsuccessfully many times to get it on the table

Playing bene Gesserit for your first time is very difficult. Also the spacing guild is not a "bad" faction. Dune is more complicated than that.
Your videos are great, you’re very entertaining to watch and give all your videos a great pacing. Hope to see more in the future!
Definitely a bit late to this video, but after playing my first two games of Dune this weekend I've been on a kick. Just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video. It felt really well put together, and well-paced. I checked out a few other videos and i'm really glad I found you through these. I instantly heard Ludwig and Schlatt's musical emporium music and realized that your style of videos is very reminiscent to modern youtubers, which I don't often see in the board gaming community. So thank you so much for this awesome content!
Best video to get a taste of Dune gameplay for the uninitiated, thank you! Covered the right amount of rules and game situations, while presenting an exciting experience. This is a fantastic format to make heavy games more approachable.
Nice! We had a similar first Dune game with an emperor/spacer victory final round.
4:04 Can we talk about how the Atreide's leader changed after the reveal?
Love your eddting.Played Atreides in this game and it was fun to rewatch
Super fun video and very well edited, keep up the good work :)

@@orski78 This is coming at least also from a person that doesnt watch/play many bored games, but its really nice when you explain it and I think you do it in a very efficient but fun way. I might be the minority in viewership but I love seeing you play these new games and try them out :)

Truthtrance has a very devicive usage cases. Jack reda the expansion developer, comments on this card: "Lore-wise it's about past and present, and not about the future".I think it makes sense.
Nice overview and editing Orski, i got the game second hand a while ago and I have been meaning to play it for a while now, but never got around to playing it (high barrier of entry with player count, duration and complexity), it really seems like a game that I would like to play in real life as well (even though the TTS mod looks nice). Side question: Did you ever play any of the COIN games? (cuba libre, fire in the lake, andean abyss etc.) I recently got introduced to them and I've been greatly enjoying them, I think you'd like games like this as well! Cheers, Jan

Distant Plain is love.
I love Dune! It's so rough and the expanded factions offer an interesting twist. IMO, it's up there with Twilight Imperium for longform political games
I would love to watch you play a game of Eclipse second dawn.
My godkids got me the Barnes/Noble edition for Christmas last year and I've read the rules, got confused...watched some YT vidoes, still confused but cleared some things up...saw this and like "Yep, all the negotiation and backstabbing, I'm awful at that so I'm gonna suck at this game."
Pidge is the sort of person I'd never invite to another game again :)
That was an awesome video.

Table top simulator from the looks of it
Bene Gesserit voice forcing to play lasgun is homemade rule. In original game he can only force to play "non special weapon", while lasgun is a special weapon indeed. Also firemen can go through storm easily.
Isn't there a rule/errata/faq that "You can't ask questions about future with Truthtrance"?
@orski78

Not that I’m aware of… if you could only ask questions about the past I’d imagine the card would lose all utility
@roderik1990
11 ай бұрын
You can ask such questions, but AFAIK "I don't know" is also a valid answer if it truthfully depends on currently unknown facts and intent. (No saying "I don't know" if you really did intent to attack Arrakeen next turn for example)
@matusabaffy9453
11 ай бұрын
The card says "The player must answer "yes" or "no" truthfully." From that I assume "I don't know" is not a valid answer. You can't even answer a Truthtrance question by saying something like "I'll blow it up if and only if the number of troops there is more than ..."
@JayCyrZak

Asking questions about the future is explicitly allowed in the FAQ, just not questions that extend beyond the current turn.

What prevents this game from always turning into a 2v2 or 2v2v2 ?

Nothing, really. the newest expansion out soon will add some advantage to players who aren't in a faction. Remember, an unallied faction only needs 3 strongholds. (or their unique victory condition if they have one)
@ares106
9 ай бұрын
@@MrJibbajabbawocky hey, I’m really interest in this game, never played but i watched a few games online. It seems to me that being in an alliance is very strong and backstabbing organically is impossible since you can only break alliance during a worm event. This is surprising to me for a game about Dune. The only times I’ve seen players break alliance is if their team mate became very weak or as Fremen they got an extra move from the worm and tried to capitalize on that to get a win. Am I correct?
@MrJibbajabbawocky
9 ай бұрын
@@ares106 Pretty much. You can break alliances if another faction has been having strong turns, and you want to ally with them, or you both control Strongholds and an alliance will win at the end of the round if nothing changes. You're always free to make deals and "ally" with people, even outside the Alliance mechanic... it just doesn't change either of your win conditions. The Traitor mechanic is a good rendition of the backstabbing you get in the book. Harkonnen get to keep ALL 4 of their traitors, instead of choosing just one. Dune is a game that changes based on what factions are involved, who's playing them and how the Traitors and Treachery cards pan out. It's worth picking up, since the base GF9 game is only 50 bucks and the expansions are 25. All the breakdowns I see of "What faction wins the most" are really reflections of that particular person's community. It's a meaty game. Get into some games of it. Try out each faction. Try them out again after you've played the others and seen other people play them. I think you'll dig it.
@ares106

@@MrJibbajabbawocky thanks for explaining! I'm definitely looking into buying it. I think I will try to either play it in a group of 4 or 6 since at 3 or 5 there will be an odd man out and this game is already so unforgiving being left to fend for oneself without a cool ability form an ally seems a very daunting prospect for new players.
@MrJibbajabbawocky
9 ай бұрын
@ares106 the new expansion will help with the "lone wolf" player, but an even number of players is always the best way.
Hey, the video started out good but the AI imagery started to become really distracting and unfortunately I don’t think I’ll finish the video as a result
What I don't see here is Progress...I don't really see winning and losing happening...I see people playing the rules to block or whatever but I'm not sure I see anything that would relate to actual warfare going on?? I feel like I'm seeing a "rules" game where there are all kinds of special occasion rules that don't necessarily model any particular reality....? no?
People are really bad at playing Dune. It takes our 6 players 2 hours to complete this game on average.
Playing bene Gesserit for your first time is very difficult. Also the spacing guild is not a "bad" faction. Dune is more complicated than that.
