Dune Messiah: Spoiler-Free & Spoiler Book Review // Dig It Or Bury It? // Diggerdan Reads

On this episode I discuss my thoughts on the second book in the Dune Saga Dune Messiah! "Dune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known--and feared--as the man christened Muad'Dib. As Emperor of the Known Universe, he possesses more power than a single man was ever meant to wield. Worshipped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political houses he displaced when he assumed the throne--and a conspiracy conducted within his own sphere of influence.
And even as House Atreides begins to crumble around him from the machinations of his enemies, the true threat to Paul comes to his lover, Chani, and the unborn heir to his family's dynasty..."

Great video! Dune Messiah is my favorite read of the year so far, and I have it just above the first and third books in my rankings. Spoilers below . . I think Paul kept his distance from Chani, as he saw any future where he acted differently led to her dying earlier, so he picked the future where she lived the longest, but it is also the one where he doesn't get to spend time with the women he loves, which I found to be heartbreaking. I really liked the Bene Teliaxu and Scytele's plan, of proving to Paul that the Ghoula can become the person proper, and offering to bring Chani back is a great plan and I bought into it wholeheartedly when it was revealed. I think the ending of Messiah is also the perfect ending if you view Dune and Messiah as a Duology. Are you going to read the third? I have a theory that if you like Dune 1 more than Messiah, than you will probably like Children of Dune more than Messiah as well.

Thanks Benjamin! . . . Yeah I have to agree, that is heart wrenching. It was a great plan on Scytale's part but when it was revealed it felt a little too little too late. The ending is good, I guess it just makes me sad to see Paul go. I plan on reading Children of Dune sometime this month! I'll be interested to see if your theory holds true. Thanks for such an engaging comment!

It wasn’t trillions. The Jihad took roughly 61,000,000,000 billion lives! Still a staggering number defying sanity and belief.
