Based on the fact it's built by the same team as Conan Exiles, and most of the same engine, i bet it will play very similarly, and honestly Conan Exiles had amazing gameplay in my opinion. One of the most solid survival games out, glad to see this trailer also showcasing the same building system and the same climbing system. Ngl I'm kinda excited. Granted conan is all melee combat and some bows etc, it'll be interesting to see how they do with the vehicles and guns.

So, what worries me is how the Devs had said they’re avoiding the religious overtones of the Dune universe. Religious overtones are sort of key to the Dune Lore and story so… yeah I am deeply concerned for how this game is going to portray the Universe faithful to the novels.

@@acarroll6842 fremen used maula pistols for engaging ranged targets up to 50 metres and the harkonnens and sardaukar only used shields when in stable areas, so out in the desert regular firearms would be fairgame. lasguns attract worms unfortunately.

The devs said there is plenty of hand of hand combat but due to it being in arrakis using shields would attract sand worms so using Guns/Ranged weapons is easier since no shields but if there are shields you are forced to use hand to hand (tho we’ll all only use hand to hand anyways)

Knowing Funcoms past, this is very likely. The current pre-alphain game footage the devs showed off wasn't super pretty looking, animations looked a little jank, building was basic etc. So they have a bit to go imo

Probably, but even Conan Exiles launched with enough content to be fully playable and enjoyable with good progression and mechanics. These devs are amazing, and it looks like in this video it is essentially re-skinned Conan Exiles, climbing mechanics are the same, building is the similar but improved.

The devs behind this game have skeptical pasts in terms of gameplay quality so I am not gonna hold my breathe on it. It's probably not gonna be as good as the movie's hype has made it out to be.

It's going to get improved, thats not something they need to have down pat at this stage in development and is not uncommon. @@walther007 Even if that was to make it's way into the final product, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Is it preferable to be perfect? Of course. Is it even possible to be perfect? I doubt it. The way the climbing works is not like Assassin's Creed or anything like that where there are predetermined grapple points. It's very generous with where you can climb, and that makes perfect contact animation next to impossible, if not actually impossible. Would you rather they clip through the wall instead?

Within the first 30mins of the first Dune film I thought the setting would make for an insane open world RPG. This version has lots of potential but there are definitely some red flags. I wish CD Projekt Red hopped on the IP, that would be insane.

I was literally just thinking this as I read your comment. I’m a huge fan of CD Projekt Red, and their work on the Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077 convinces me they could take a universe like Dune’s and make an absolutely epic game… They have enough on their plate at the moment but it would have been awesome if they had picked this up. Will definitely give the current devs the benefit of the doubt though and hope they can deliver a great game!

@user-nl2bi2kx9k there are certain story parts in the game that are somewhat linear, but the majority of the game comes down to playing how you want, doing what you want, and making your own decisions which affect many elements of future quest lines/dialogue/experiences.

i still don't think this can really work considering one of the fundamental things about dune is that arrakis is mostly just barren desert it's gonna be a lot of wandering from landmark to landmark with nothing in between in the early game and even if they decide to populate it with more stuff it would kinda defeat the point

I remember first hearing about this game and being cautiously optimistic. This has me really excited about it now.

I read the title of an article that stated they had to ask permission to change a bit of lore to help with the game. So the game would make sense for a game.

He who controls the spice, controls THE UNIVERSE! Looks pretty damn good - almost good enough to drop a serious wedge of cash on a gaming PC setup, just to play it. I'm a massive Duniverse fan - I read all of Herbert's original works when I was about 12.

Don’t forget the 4x game Dune Spice Wars. It’s a really fun and very challenging game, plus online multiplayer.

The issue is that MMO's don't allow me to only put 20 minutes a night (in between work and parenting) into the game without seeing all that progress wiped out by other players. And as @sultankebab1587 has said, MMO's are never as detailed and well put together storywise as a singleplayer RPG.

Should make the base building like the old Dune 2 / Dune 2000 rts games from WestWood - would be awesome. Wonder if you can command groups of units for big battles or if it's all wandering around solo? Looks like there are some NPCs following you about.

I really hope it will be as it seems, because is a BANGER!!!

Perhaps, more dark Cave exploration not sure what's in it but maybe a Smart A.I system further expanding on Trade networks. Even being able to deploy Platoons to certain Areas or Instructors that train your Troops but a mix of RuneScape/Civilization elements discovering New Settlers offering different training/formation potentials. Sounds fun but I'm sure probly alot to think about.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic on this one. Played tons of Conan Exiles and while the game is good, it still has tons of unresolved issues.

I was hoping for an RTS Dune. The old Dune 2000 was really well made, and I think it's about time we got to get a nice RTS experience again. This looked good if i'm being optimistic. Definitely waiting until release though.

It's like we've spent decades trying to make Dune into games and shows and after the Westwood games and the first Dune movie, finally we have several things that look promising.

That’s a very good observation! My guess is that they bought a model, and did the max low effort animation on it because obviously the content being pushed - a lot of stuff looks like just a Frankenstein out of different presets. Like building, faces, character models etc. there is no game - just a bunch of slammed together pieces, sprinkled with u5

Hopefully combat will have a good mix of melee combat, true to the origins

Hopefully they keep all the shield stuff faithful to the universe in attracting worms and turning into a nuke if it ever encounters a lasgun. That would be devastatingly epic and hilarious haha but idk how you’d work that into gameplay and also trolls. Still would be a really tense and have a really unique feel and strategy that would make the game stand out like the film and book

Last game the publisher made in 2022 had overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam wich is a good sign

I hope they would be able to crack the gameplay because the story and characters are proven already. And I love Dune book and movies. Gameplay is where I am bit skeptical. I would love if it is more like sandbox with good physics and game mechanics.
