"I recognize your footsteps, old man." This isn't just a reference to Paul calling Gurney "old man." Remember that Shai Hulud is the "Old Man of the Desert." Paul's nascent prescience and spice enhanced intuition is allowing him to recognize the footsteps of Shai Hulud. Great line!

I saw it more as the prescience was right then and there telling him Gurney was approaching before Gurney was actually there, and the jarring snap between his utterance of that line and the actual contact of Gurney to get Paul moving back to the Thopter could sort of be how the vision is like an imperfect glimpse into the future, not a concrete truth. I fucking love the editing of the Vision sequences because they are such a unique way to convey the uncertainty factor of prescience. Also like you said, what if it is a prescient murmuring of Leto II saying he recognizes the passing of Shai Hulud...

This enormous, terrifying giants became worm-taxies in dune 2.
My God this was brilliant. Lynch did his very best to capture the epic feel of this scene, but was clearly let down by the technology of the time which simply wasn't up to the task in a lot of ways (although the final shot of the Worm eating the Harvester was a marvel of special effects for the time). But this final shot of Paul and Gurney standing on the ramp of their Orni, the two of them looking down in silent awe at this giant mouth hinted at through the sand swirling simply gulps down this massive spice harvester. With Zimmers brilliant soundtrack, the voiceover of Kynes... I feel so incredibly lucky to have seen this in Imax, feeling almost as out of it as a Paul as I just took in the moment ... Bravo indeed.

There are some very subtle but clever directives which make everything fit together and contrast all the other movies: Never show anything that is not entirely believable. Only camera paths that could have been filmed by a real camera operator. No green screen because subtle nuances don't fit. Use a light brown screen in the color of the sand. And so on. If you execute all those little restrictive ideas, the whole viewing experience suddenly comes down from those gigantic cgi-orgies to something very direct and intimate.

I had read the book like a month before the movie in anticipation and like holy god did this scene do that chapter (Chapter 15, I literally remember because it stuck out to me so much) so much justice, i was like crying tears of awe when i saw the massive waves of sand knock Paul and Gurney down and how everything sinkholes around as it approaches. What an amazing movie.
Just finished reading this part in book they even portayed the lines of characters except the fact that the harvester carrier didnt showed up to rescue harvester in the book
That part where Gurney just appears… its almost like Paul got put in another timeline where he’s saved before the worm consumes everything
The introduction began with Harkonnen harvesting operations at night. The scene didn’t sacrifice any imagery under the amber glow of Krelln, the first moon of Arrakis. No more than Paul’s nightly dreams of Chani. The Duke’s inspection would have been more consistent with harvesting operations had it taken place after dusk. The entire planet is the Duke’s fiefdom. Night is a constant resource somewhere on Arrakis used to assist the harvest of spice. By the turquoise light of the second moon, Aaron, the worms approach would have been even more foreboding. The powerful star’s blinding glare by itself drowns out the contrast of shadows. It’s raw power would have hindered unprotected vision. Evading the glare and heat of the day serves inspections much more effectively.
I love the second movie where they use shai hulud like a recycling system just call him and be like 'here have snack' and he comes and noms all the bodies no fuss no muss
The way the Hans music flows with the sand and the intensity of the scene, the way the sand particles and flows are captured so well by the camera, the way the editor did such a good job of putting this all together... Perfection. This is film making.
The edit in which you see Paul being misplaced when Gurney touches his shoulder... Absolutely wonderful editing! And how the line came back in Dune part 2! Goosebumps all over!
Watching this, I was struck by how gigantic the spice harvesters appeared in comparison to the humans operating it. Then, I was blown away by how massively huge the sandworms are in comparison to the gigantic spice harvesters!
This part is better in the movie than it is in the book!

Something about Sandworms I never really got was how Herbert envisioned their mouths were supposed to work. I mean the book describes a worm’s mouth in terms of diameter and the fact it has crysknife-shaped teeth, but not a definitive physical description of its appearance. I think I’ve seen at least four different versions of the mouth - the three-sided flaps version, as popularized by the 1984 film, but which some critics said looked distinctly phallic in appearance; the style seen in this film, which some hack journalist’s random article I came across described as resembling a butthole; the Dune miniseries, which I think had just a two-piece jaw which reminds me of a cross between the second example and a dinosaur; and some random piece I saw on the internet that didn’t even bother with trying to make a jaw and just gave it a large cylindrical hole for a mouth with straight tusks coming out of it. Honestly, having grown up on the 1984 movie I personally prefer that design, but I read somewhere that the director for this film kinda wanted to make the mouth of his sandworms resemble an eyeball, which is kinda cool I guess, so I’m a little torn between the two

Honestly captain should have closed the door after picking up his son tiwh his friend from the desert on the ship. Because the angle and keeping only by one hand are too risky - he might fall down. At the same time the scene would not be so epic in that case.
Alaskan Bull Worm
I fucking love the sandworms in this series. When you hear there are worms on the planet you think "lol how bad could worms be" Humans have conquered most of known space, they can even fold space to travel through it at warp speed, they have lasers that can cut almost anything, atomic weapons that can glass planets. But on Arrakis a sandworm immediately makes humans look like nothing.
Kynes: He cares more about his men than the Spice. I have to admit, against my better judgement, I like this Duke.
That part with "I recognize your footsteps old man" - isn't that what Paul says to Gurney in Part 2? Wow, that was quite an easter egg in part 1. Also because it's Gurney that snaps him out of it. Ah, love it.

I mean. . . if you've done CGI yourself, you would know just how frustrating making these kinds of scenes are where there's lots of things interacting at once. Really to me, it's good enough when most people don't notice :v
Later on the Fremen noticed that Ole Yeller seemed to have a serious case of indigestion....
I imagine the worm must hate accidentally eating those things.
Epic scene
this one seems much bigger than the ones from part 2
why would you cut off a part that connects your video part 1 ?!
Spearfishing/free diving off blacks beach san diego I saw a creature with a sabretooth/tusk it was enormous movie best depics wat king of sighting I had with worm.
Eclipsed experimentation be like:
a lesser movie couldn't have resisted a to get a full view with a camera flying all around the worm
He's so me, I also eat spice harvesters for breakfast.
worm tries to eat a spice harvester and eventually became weakened causing the water of life to form inside
