These videos are just super! Played Dune2000 ever since 1998 (and Dune 2 before that) and I still play it at least a few times every year since. These videos are great and with commentary also, its great to see real people playing vs. me always playing against AI.

In actual 2000, I was unable to find a server to play multiplayer. And here we are in 2024 and it looks like this game has a multiplayer community lol. Looks modded too. Some buildings I do not recall. Do not recall tanks leaving behind burning husks for a little while either. How many active players are there nowadays?

I would say new dune movies really boost player base. But it still not much so most games are pinged via OpenRA discord server. We are playing D2k on OpenRA engine which brings lots of modern features like Fog of war, auto-concrete etc. And we are playing mostly on Enhanced maps which have different balance focusing on e-sport. So its not as much about nostalgia as about bringing D2k into 21 century :)

damn, sound track is still so good. Frank knew how to make game music. i also haven't thought about this game in at least a decade. isn't sorta hard to get? i know there were licensing issues, which is why no remakes/remasters have been able to be released

it's possible to play this game in windows 10/11 today? is there a remastered version?

We are playing on Openra D2k version which something like open source remaster, with lots of modern features like UI, Hotkeys, Fog of war etc.

what's the BGM, is definitely different from the original, but sounds nice.

Does the bottom base have a slight advantage because of the silo turn in is facing south?

There is 2 types of Refineries in Tournament. One with south/east docking angle and one with north/west. So players can choose one which is closest to the spice. Players can even rotate building while they placing it. Sadly not many new players know about this.

Are there any major differences between the different factions?

Each faction has unique Support powers, tier 3 units and different combat tank. +1 some minor differences. But they rarely used in 1v1, because game usually ends before late game.

As far as I know, as a remake of Dune II: Atreides has infantry, trikes, rocket launchers, sonic tanks and their palace summon is the Fremen. Harkonnen has troopers, quads, rocket launchers, devastators and their palace summon is the Death Hand missile. Ordos has infantry, troopers, raider trikes, quads, deviator rocket launchers and their palace summon is a saboteur. Everything else is shared across all three factions.

Still I think a tourney with worms spawning every 5 min would give it much more of a dune feel instead of generic RTS

Noce to watch an dune game compare to RA it looks like you have faster a bigger army
