One of, if not the best thing added by David Lynch is the dialogue between Paul and Duke Leto on the balcony overlooking the sea in the rain and then later on the payoff when Paul comes to after taking the water of life exclaiming, "Father, the Sleeper has Awoken!". David Lynch doesn't get enough credit for this movie.

I think this film’s crowning achievement (besides Patrick Stewart charging to battle with a pug) is that Lynch perfectly communicated just how alien human society has become. Certain names, allusions and behaviors are relatable to even an uninitiated audience, but so much of what these people do and say is so beyond any social convention practiced heretofore- and I think that’s a major motif Herbert emphasized throughout the saga. I don’t think anyone besides Lynch had the proper attitude towards film as a medium so as to convey that

Superb montage! What many folks don't know is, Frank Herbert was present FOR the filming of the movie, and approved OF the casting, director's vision, and the screenplay (which he helped flesh out). I too saw the film prior to reading the book, but that was a help, not a hindrance. I love both the extended version, and the theatrical release. Dune is one of the few stories that you can find something to believe in, and take with you throughout your life. It's a story that I've insisted on my child reading, so as to impart a life-lesson that cannot be summed up in words!

Having just watched it and not judging it for the effects at the time (mainly the shields), I am not sure I agree. The voice over of everyone's thoughts is not that well executed. I get the value as it helps to explain things I just don't feel it made the movie better. The Baron was also not that well done. He was not particularly menacing. Credit where credit is due at taking a stab at such a difficult story to adapt but it is still a B- adaption on a good day.

ᒍᗩᗰᕮᔕ ᑭᗩᗯᔕOᑎ ugh, I think I'd have had the same reaction, my friend. As snobby as this may sound of me, being unfamiliar with the source material puts one at a severe disadvantage when trying to offer a fair critique of the movie. Stuff people mostly complain about, like the constant inner-monologue voice overs and the "weirding modules," were attempts to overcome the challenges of working more of the source material into the movie, but if you've never read it, they just seem inexplicable, I guess?

I'm really grateful for this, goosebumps for me also, recently I listened to the audiobook online and found that tremendously enjoyable from its alternate narrative perspective involving more of my imagination. This was an absolutely epic film to me in my pre college years, every line a memory. I was saddened it was so viciously maligned by so many, everyone's a critic likes to deface others work. Frank Herbert gave us so much, in rich detail, to me it was science fiction Shakespeare that hasn't diminished in its magic feeling over time. I'm happy it hasn't lost its ability to captivate audiences over time, and that many enjoy it. Thanks for bringing this gem back to me, this collage of scenes and quotes are so similar to the favorites of mine own. Thank you!

Patrick Steward is just a damned good actor, and he's able to carry himself in a variety of rolls. I don't think he quite looked the role, but he definately acted it. It's like Sam Jackson, he's constantly playing beefed up badass roles, but he's a scrawny little guy. He's just a damn good actor.

There was just too much story to fit into one film so I can see how it can be quite impenetrable for those unfamiliar with the book. Personally I love this film despite its obvious flaws, but the cast, design aesthetic and overall style create such an other worldly atmosphere that I get drawn in every time I watch it 🤷🏼‍♂️

My only criticism of this Lynch film is the entire Harkonnen visual horrors, the heart plugs in particular. I always skip over the Geidi Prime sequences. I've seen this a googol times, love the directors cut extended version. it's lost on a lot of folks that this is a DAVID LYNCH film. Usually lots of schock and gore. blue Velvet. Lost highway. For TV, in the incomparable Twin Peaks series. He specializes is extremely disturbing art as his way of expression, and this is rather tame for his work. Phenom cast, I wish there was enough budget to make a six hour 3 part film version. Freddie jones as Hawat and Stewart as Halleck are timeless as supporting actors. GODSPEED Freddie Jones, RIP, YOU ARE DEARLY MISSED. Thank you so much for this, it's far superior to a Hollywood trailer!!!!! Only a true hardcore fan who 'gets it' could do so well. CHEERS!!!!

The new movie is completely and utterly devoid of scenes like these. Everything is nothing but exhibition of VFX and music. From the technical stand-point the new movie is superior, but the movie has character, scenes you remember and visuals that blow your mind. Good job, you made multi million movie. It's been 5 minutes. And I already forgot all of it.
