Duncan Edwards for Manchester Utd & England The Ultimate Compilation
Спорт
Busby Babe & England Powerhouse Midfielder Duncan Edwards playing for Manchester Utd & England. Rare footage showing a glimpse of his all round ability & why he was tipped to dominate Football for years, before the Munich Air Disaster
“He was the best player I ever saw, or am likely to see in my life.
If I was asked to name a team of the players I played with, his name would be the first one I would put in, no question about it.” - Sir Bobby Charlton
“I never thought I could be as good as him. Never. He had every talent, he was the best short passer, he was the best long passer. He had terrific vision.
His 60-70 yard passes with a heavy ball were pinpoint accurate. He had an enthusiasm for the game, he never stopped talking about it. He’d pick you up if you were losing. He was absolutely sensational, fantastic. He was a great loss to England, and he would probably have played in the 1966 World Cup final because he was young enough. Probably also the United team that won the European Cup in 1968.” - Sir Bobby Charlton
“He was Roy Keane and Bryan Robson combined, but in a bigger body. He could play as an attacker, creator or defender and be the best player on the pitch… He was world class when United had the ball, and when the opposition has the ball he was our best defender.” - Wilf McGuinness, Edwards’ team-mate at United, and future United manager
“You don’t hear many professionals talk lightly of greatness because it is so rare, but that is what I saw in Duncan Edwards the first time I set eyes on him. He reached the same fabulous standard at left-half, centre-half, inside-left and centre-forward. He is the kind of player managers dream about.” - Don Revie
“There is no doubt in my mind that Duncan would have become the greatest player ever. Not just in British football, with United and England, but the best in the world. George Best was something special, as was Pele and Maradona, but in my mind Duncan was much better in terms of all-round ability and skill.” - Tommy Docherty, former Manchester United manager, and Edwards’ opponent during his England debut in 1955
"He would have been only twenty-one- he played like a man- almost a demon.
Two Wonderful accurate feet and his running with the ball and bringing the ball through the midfield was an awe-inspiring sight.
He was exceptionally quick for such a big lad and really took some stopping and tackling.
When he tackled it was like being hit by a sherman tank." Sir Bobby Robson

My grandad who's just turned 97,season ticket holder at old Trafford since 1947 and hardly missed a game up until 2019 when ill health stopped him going, claims to this day that Duncan Edwards was easily the best footballer he's ever seen, and that's quite a claim.. The lad had it all... Rip big Duncan..

I lost my grandad two years ago, he was at Wembly for the EC final, he couldn't speak higher Edwards (and Violet, loved Violet). He said nobody has ever come through and taken over at the age he was, the only player he ever mentioned as similar was Rooney (in terms of playing like a man when he's still a boy). Because of what we are now, I'm glad my grandad wasn't able to witness some of the shame the players have put on this badge in the last decade.
So emotional watching this. Just thinking of what he could have achieved. He had it all.

The football fans of Dudley are brought up knowing that the great Duncan Edward's was our greatest footballer. The statue in the town of Dudley is visited regularly by football fans from all over the country.

@@tt99football56 Can't think of any Englishmen. He was big, strong, powerful, could tackle, could head the ball and could shoot with both feet. Nearest I can think of is Beckenbauer, but he was a different type of player. I don't think anyone was smiling that day or the days afterward.
First footage I've ever seen of him. I knew about him from a young age. I'm a Liverpool fan and my old fella an Evertonian. He saw him play and said he was incredible. Not too dissimilar to Steven Gerrard he said. Fast, powerful and very technical.
Like a mixture of Bobby Charlton and Steven Gerrard. Strong skilful totally two footed !
I was 4 1/2 at the time of the Munich disaster. I can still remember my parents being upset when they heard the news of Duncan’s passing. My Dad was an Evertonian and my Mum a Preston North End supporter as her bring her had played for them and win an FA Cup winners medal. I was a United supporter and still am and always will be.

Alot of players made that one trick pony Bobby Charlton the senile old bastard inferior. He took a shit in the dishwasher, that is what happens when you have dementia.
Great long passing too !
His potential was off the chart.....strong , two great feet quick , great in the air , and as brave as a lion ,....its a tragedy he died so young,..greatness would have been inevitable he was that Good......May he rest in peace 🙏

he was the greatest, had he lived it wouldn't even be a debate. he was just so unfortunate to have played back when lots of it wasn't televised..
Had he lived he could have led England to World Cup glory 4 years earlier in 1962. Such a tragic loss to his family first and foremost, and to the game in general.
If you seriously watch him, analyse him compared to the other players on the pitch, he's miles ahead of them. The way he moves, his technique, his speed...he plays like a modern footballer. Seriously, look at every other player and their body language, they look sluggish almost in comparison to Duncan. And the absolute power he had to hit that ball like a rocket...that's difficult even with a modern football, let alone one of those heavy and hard old footballs! you can tell he's a natural athlete and he's bloody fast.

@igor putin Athletes with ability. Back in the 50's, up to the 90's, footballers were never as well physically trained. They still had the ability. Just players these days like to do more fancy tricks but there was always players who were head and shoulders above, Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney, Edwards, George Best, Dalglish.

@@tt99football56 Edwards was a great loss as was all the rest. We were nearly there the European cup was in our grasp then gone. We were in shock I was nine years old when they died. I was playing out side after coming home from school and the Manchester evening news delivery paper boy was shouting out that they had crashed. It has never left me the love we all had for that team. @@Fred-fl2fo I was lucky enough to see Mathews once at Upton Park, he was in the twilight years then and your are correct the 50's 60's was when the game was at it's best, sadly it is no longer the true definition of the working man's game. Question do you think that Edwards and Moore would or could have played in the same England team, from what I hear I think Edwards and Moore would have made life very tough for opposition countries.

A pretty absurd claim to make. Clearly he was highly rated at the time, but the passage of that time has polished the reputation. Truthfully no one can say how good he would have become down to tragic events. To elevate him above proper England ''midfield'' legends such as Charlton, Ball, Brooking, Wilkins, Robson, Gascoigne, Gerrard, Beckham, Lampard et al is simply misty eyed nonsense.

I'm a scouser, aged 48 but it's really sad seeing this. Imagine what could've been.
If he hadn't been killed, people would have said things like Franz Beckenbauer is the next Duncan Edwards. And then others would have said no way, there will never be another Duncan Edwards. It would have been very interesting to see how those two matched up in 1966.

Wasn't just him they lost, it was several other top players, England were robbed, and Edwards was the central piece to that side, Charlton wasn't even the main one in it...imagine what could have been when you consider a man that was later knighted still couldn't have eclipsed this player, and years later said he felt like he was a weaker player than Edwards.
Could have been the new Phil Jones.
