You know, I've been thinking about why I liked this couple as a child...at first I thought it was cause court was one of my first crushes and I saw myself as the rebellious type (i was like 12 lmao) But now that I think about it, this couple is an interesting twist in the bad guy x goody girl trope. Like- Courtney is uptight but she isn't a goody-two-shoes. She is in fact very dominering, stubborn and crafty when it comes to winning, competitive to the point of aggression...Not only do we see the typical line of the bad boy actually being nice insideTM but we also get a new reveal of the rule-follower being actually 'bad' herself, to the point that Duncan both can't stand it, but it's also incredibly attracted to the driven, unstoppable force that is Courtney, who doesn't have the need to categorise herself as a criminal to be ruthless. Courtney likes how she can handle the bad boy Duncan, Duncan loves how he can't handle psychotic type A courtney.... Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

I like Total Drama Island Duncney but not the TDA Duncney. Courtney really started becoming controlling and being a bitch later in the seasons. It made me start to back down on cheering on for their relationship and realized if this is how the writers were going to go with her then I wasn't going to support that. Sucks though. I appreciated their opposite dynamics and how they try to introduce the other some new perspectives, and those moments were wholesome. I won't attack anyone who likes Duncan/Gwen. My opinion for the pairing is that they seem like similar people. Like not in a sense of a sparky way for me. TDI Duncney was like peanut butter and jelly. They were opposites but they complimented each other.

My Thoughts On Duncney: I love how he still likes her even though they broke up, Duncney would’ve been the best ship if the new total drama writer’s didn’t throw away Courtney’s character development, and made Duncan cheat on her. They did all of this just so Duncan and Gwen could be together. Like why?? They were a very toxic couple, they were both obsessed with Courtney, 1. Still liking her, and 2. Hating her because Duncan talked and mentioned her like all the time, what I mean by that in, literally trying to get her attention. Like in one scene when Duncan asked Gwen “ now that she’s on your team, what has she said about me?” And he kisses Gwen on the cheek and asked her if Courtney seen that. This got very toxic so quickly that Gwen ended the relationship because she said “it was so obvious that he still liked Courtney.”

What makes me like Duncan and Courtney is that you’d think they are complete opposites from the start but as time goes on you can see Courtney’s true colors and see she’s not completely different from Duncan after all. It’s not that cheesy, overdone/overrated “opposites attract” thing with them. While they do have differences, they also have similarities that make things interesting and helps them form a bond and understanding of each other… They become a little more accepting of each other when they realize they’re not so different after all… as soon as Duncan saw she had some similarities to him when she first let her crazy/edgy side out, he became even more interested in her. As soon as Courtney saw Duncans softer side (and also realized she could be just as bad as he is) she became more interested in him. It’s balanced. As all things should be. Even tho they became more toxic later on in other seasons bc the writers ruined their characters, their relationship in TDI was the best. And that’s why I hate it when people say they’re complete opposites bc… No they’re not lol. Complete opposites (especially when it’s the always-happy bubbly girl with the brooding serious boy) is such a boring and overdone trope and it usually doesn’t last realistically. It can also lead to toxicity bc the two don’t understand each other at all and can’t seem to bond over anything because they’re too different. The best couples are the ones that have BOTH differences and similarities. In real life most people met and dated their lover over something they bonded with.
