The first time I heard about this, I was a kid and I had just watched Liar Liar. I couldn't believe it 😳

The last one with the porch pirates car being stuck in the snow....the full video is even more hilarious as the husband tells his wife to call 911 and she asks, "What's the number?" The garage thief who got locked in absolutely could have let himself out, he just didn't have the knowledge. Like you can easily disconnect the door from the motorized mechanism and lift the door up manually, or there should be some controls on the motor itself to activate it and control the door. Dude stayed there for EIGHT DAYS and didn't even TRY to experiment with the door opening motor I bet. They're all designed in a way that in an emergency or power failure situation you should still be able to open the door.

8:13 So I'm actually a litigation injury claim adjuster for a homeowners insurance company, and that actually happens more often than not. A homeowner can be found negligent in some way, regardless if the injured person was trespassing.

As someone who works in insurance I can confirm, legally speaking you must have the ability to exit a premises in an outward facility, IE. any room that is connected to the immediate outside of the building must have a point of egress. IF you can't exit the building (the locked and sealed garage) it considered a health and safety risk and violates the insurance on the building. In case of fires and so on. So the criminal sued the insurance company for allowing the homeowner to have a facility to trap someone in the house. Hope this helps.
