I'm US, I don't quite get what you are saying? I'm sure that we really don't have hate for you? After all, we ARE you. Just transported into a diff country. I'm swedish, english and bohunk, lol. My grandma had a thick swedish accent. Dad did some research on ancestery way back when? I am Jeff, son of Ander? I live in Gothenburg NE. Home of the Swedes, is our high school motto. Lot's of Swedes here, lot's of Germans as well. It's all good. We, for the most part, get along just fine. Sister city is Gothenburg Sweden. Good Luck and God Bless.

@@broncobra You sure you're American? When European's came here it was a different continent not a new country, the country wasn't established till much, much later. Also stating we're the same is like comparing a pencil to chalk. Sure most American's are from Europe but not all American's are from Europe. There were many who were slaves from Africa, and the southern regions. There was a handful of Middle Eastern people and of course those who're Native American. Than you have Spain who discovered the Southern coastline as well. So no not all people in America are European.

@@eklipseempire8807 Yeah, pretty sure I'm American. Born and raised in Nebraska. You might have infused some of your beliefs on me? Born in a small town of around 3400. All white. There was one Black family in town. Dad was friends, they played pool together. I went over to their place one time, walked down stairs, and every wall was covered with Ebony magazine covers? Coolest thing ever? They missed their own. While I was growing up, best friend was Ernie Rodriguez. Our church helped bring over refugees from Laos. One of my best friends was Pao Yang. He is now a Master Chef in a 4 star restaurant in CA. I lived in Houston 12 years. My best friends there were Rodney Woods (Black), and Ruban Chevera (Mexican). Growing up in a small isolated town in the exact center of the U.S., most people were Swedish, English, German, and Irish. Most Native Americans were already by themselves on reservations. I get what you are saying? Just didn't want you to think I was racist or anything. Good Luck and God Bless. If you come here, it's important to assimilate? I have no problem with race or color. But you had better become one with us.Or we will put a boot up your ass, like Toby Kieth would say?

  • @jonadabtheunsightly

Doing the US states on this kind of point-and-click quiz is physically easier, because your aim doesn't have to be as precise. Europe has at least half a dozen countries that are literally smaller than Rhode Island. Several of them are smaller than DC. So if your mouse hand isn't very steady, it's a problem. The intellectual aspect is more comparable, although Europe has had way more changes in the last few decades.

I stayed at a private home in Munich in 1988. The family renting the room had 2 parrots (an Amazon and an African Grey). In the morning when sunlight hit the covers of their cages they would start raising hell to be let out of their cages, which the family did not do to avoid disturbing their guests breakfast. (We told them go ahead, we enjoyed the birds). But one time one of the birds was screeching to be let out and the mom told it to shut up. The bird said "Nein! Nein! Nein!" which cracked us up and I hear that now anytime the word "Nein" comes up.

As an Indiana resident I feel it is my duty to inform you of some interesting facts about my state so you won't forget it. 1. Indiana residents are called Hoosiers whereas in all other states the state name ends up deciding what the residents are called. For example, Texan, New Yorker, or Californian. 2. Although being a part of the rust belt, (a group of northern stars that were once the industrial heartland of the country but are now primarily full of of abandoned factories and cities with smaller populations than they were built for) Indiana with the exception of its Northwestern cities is on a population incline and is still the largest steel and one of the largest limestone producers in the country. 2b. Fun little fact that is related but didin't quite fit with 2. The Empire state building and many of the governmental buildings in Washington DC are made of some 10-30~% of Indiana limestone. 3.The capital of Indiana (Indianapolis) is home to the largest sports arena in the WHOLE WORLD! The indi 500 speedway can comfortably fit Vatican City inside of it and have plenty of room to spare and can hold 400,000 people in it. This should suffice for now, if want to know more just ask. Every state has a story and there is plenty more to Indiana's story for you and even me to find....or maybe even write.

You mentioned the term 'dumb European', and it reminds me of when I worked on a military base in America, and a German called asking for a password resume to access a certain computer system. I resumed his password, and then he asked me, "Good, now what should I select on the screen menu?" My job was dealing with the password access, but the caller needs to know where to go next. I was thinking, "Is he really this dumb, or is he trying to socially engineer me into accessing something he was not supposed be into?" I finally told him that he would have to contact his supervisor on what to select next.

American here. Your results on the States quiz was very good, I'm not sure how many of my friends would necessarily get as many right. Did 46/46 on the Europe quiz in 4m 29s. I got worried when I saw Andorra pop up because while I remember that one easily (the mountains between France and Spain), it told me that the other city states around France and Italy were also on the table and I can't say I necessarily memorized those, I was able to work out San Marino once I remembered that Monaco was bordered by France.

Nebraska is obviously at the junction of I76 and I80, off the north east corner of Colorado. 😉 But... I don't think that would have helped him since I'm not sure Colorado even registered with him. I'm pretty sure he found it only because it isn't Louisiana or Nevada. 🤣 He definitely did better than many people I know that live in the US. Many just throw up their hands at the "rectangle states" in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions.

You did an excellent job of using logic and the facts you did know to try to figure the things you didn't know. And this really is a more difficult test than most Americans get. We get asked to point out actual countries. You were doing the equivalent of locating Bavaria and Berlin and Lower Saxony. It's trickier to know another county's internal divisions. You want to test yourself against some Americans, maybe try picking out countries in Africa. Something where it's not your home turf, but it's not ours either.

I'm impressed, dude. I've seen a lot of people do this quiz and fail hilariously at it. You really did surprisingly well with those tiny eastern New England states, those usually trip people up pretty bad. You're right that Indiana comes from Indian. I believe the literal translation is actually "land of the Indians" Colorado is literally just Spanish for "the color red" cause of the red rock there. And Nevada is Spanish for "snowy place" because the Spaniards had come up from Mexico and compared to that region it does snow a lot in Nevada, particularly in the mountains. In college when joking about not doing well in a class or when talking about a class that we didn't really care about but still had to take we'd say, "Cs get degrees!" because a 70-80/C is still a passing grade. 60-70 is a D and while that's not a fail, you'll still have to retake the class for a better grade if you don't want it to count against you. Below a 60 is an F and that's a fail.

You did great! And I am happy you got Oklahoma (my home state)! I was taught the states and capitals in 3rd grade and can still do them along with the 5 inhabited territories and DC so I’m not really sure it’d be appropriate to compare my doing the test to yours. I did go do the European test as you asked and got 100% in 2:42 (would have taken less, but had ads pop up that I had to close because they blocked part of the map). Again, I don’t think that’s a fair comparison since 1) I had an uncle from the UK and a great aunt who traveled a lot around the world with my great uncle, her husband 2) I was my state’s geography bee champion in 6th grade…I won a National Geographic board game with a map for the board that was outdated not long into the 1990s with the unification of Germany, end of the USSR, break up of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, etc. So I had to relearn a lot of countries. Honestly the trickest ones for me are the island nations in the Pacific and Caribbean as consistently get a few mixed up and haven’t learned any tricks to help me remember better (a trick a teacher taught me when I used to get the Dakotas’ capitals mixed up was that just as the state names North and South are alphabetical so are the capitals: Bismarck is North Dakota’s and Pierre is South Dakota (B comes before P just like N comes before S). Same with remembering the Baltic states: Estonia comes before Latvia which comes before Lithuania so from top to bottom that’s the order they’re in on the map! Otherwise I do pretty good at identifying countries on a map. Though don’t remember all the capital cities. I’m not Barbs from Geography Now channel who can do it blindfolded! As a kid I used to struggle with Africa, but as a teen I had some penpals from a few countries there (had penpals in Europe and elsewhere too) and that helped me want to remember them better. But still cannot remember all the capital cities, especially since a few have changed them over the years. I do remember that South Africa technically has three capital cities and really that’s just a neat fun fact and that’s why it’s stuck in my mind all these years. I think getting a 74% on your first try is really excellent. I’m pretty sure as a kid on my first try it wasn’t quite that high of a score, though you saying you remember from shows and other facts certain states is similar to how a lot of us initially remembered the states we did as kids. At least that’s true for my classmates and I. Like we knew ones we had family living in and ones tv shows, films, etc that we liked were set in. But that still leaves a lot that we didn’t initially know and just had to practice learning and remembering. So yeah excellent job! And yeah, I know the dumb American stereotype. Trust me, I’ve worked with some fellow Americans who make the stereotype seem kind in comparison. Then again I have worked with some nonAmericans who were doing a great job at emulating the stereotype as well. Thankfully I know that there’s plenty of intelligence variations throughout the world. Honestly it’s not intelligence that I worry so much about (though I’m not dismissing the importance of intelligence) is the level of curiosity. I am often bewildered by people who lack any sense of curiosity for the world and everything around them, or even about themselves. Again, such people don’t seem limited to any singular place.

I will comment on several of your videos. As to this one, I would doubt that only one in 10,000 Americans could name any German state other than Bayern. You at least have some idea of American Geograhpy. As to the "American" brands being sold in Germany. Several years ago we were visiting cousins in Schwerin. There was a store with a lot of junky jewelry obviously catering to younger people and it's name was "Cheap and Trendy." it was an American Scheiss Larder to be sure, but it blew our mind. As my wife is German we have been fortunate to make many trips there. We might have things that are different and wonderful and to you, but you have an equal amount of things that are different and wonderful to us. I love your freilicht museums (have seen most of them) and in my mind, Germany is a truly beautiful land. As you are fascinated with America, I am equally fascinated with your native land. It's truly wonderful!
