Dulcich’s Dodge Truck Fetish! - Roadkill Extra

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Want more Roadkill? Check out Roadkill Extra, the new show exclusively on Motor Trend OnDemand. Featuring a new video Monday through Friday, Roadkill Extra takes you behind the scenes, gives you deeper looks into the project cars from Roadkill and Roadkill Garage, shares some tech tips from hosts and delivers a question-and-answer session with Freiburger and Finnegan every Friday. Roadkill Extra is exclusively available on Motor Trend OnDemand.
Get a taste of Roadkill Extra right here on KZread with the Dulcich’s Dodge Truck Fetish episode. In this episode, Roadkill Garage co-host Steve Dulcich may have the market cornered for ’70s Dodge pickups. The dude has more shortbeds than any one person should be allowed to own (for mental health reasons), and in this episode of Roadkill Extra Powered by Dodge, David Freiburger shows ’em all.
We’ve provided this free episode on KZread to give you a taste of Roadkill Extra so you can decide if you'd like to subscribe for more episodes.

With how often they upload, they don't make much money. Then you have to think about how much they spend per episode on the cars, and then pay the entire crew along with flights and whatever extras. So that small amount of non guaranteed money doesn't go far. The paywall makes it affordable to have the additional content and actually have the budget to pay someone to edit it.

He paid it off and dropped the full insurance to minimum and 2 weeks later a woman slammed him and totaled it. Mag wheels!! I love those. growing up in the 70s of course I do. Been following the Roadkill brand forever on KZread and recently on Motor Trend On Demand. Really aprpreciate all you create and try to share and teach. Question for your Roadkill Garage Q&A. What ever happened to to Cougar from Episode 1? I own a 1971 F250 Custom (similar to the Harry Tow truck) been in the family since 76 and the 390 that was swapped 15 years ago was rumored to have come from a Cougar (doubtful). My mechanic friend, Dave, has about a dozen Dodge pickups in his junkyard, mostly from the '80s, plus he has an awesome '89 Dodge 1-ton 4WD wrecker with a 5.9-liter Cummins diesel and a manual transmission. He has an '84 Ramcharger (318, A727) that he put a regular pickup cab on and a hydraulic dump bed that he built. He liked the short wheel base of it, which is even shorter than a 6'-bed pickup. He used it as a junkyard truck, plow truck, and for general transportation for 24 years, until the frame had broken so many times that it couldn't really be fixed anymore. I like the looks of the '70s ones better than the '80s ones, especially the hood. Dave doesn't like the '70s hoods because those depressed sections hold water. I don't care about that (my '69 Charger hood holds water too), because they look awesome, while the '80s hoods look generic.

They got a good point, if they stay on KZread and KZread only, there won't be much money to circulate through Motor Trend, and they won't be able to buy the parts needed to make the show running, they won't be able to get better camera equipment and software to make the episodes, plus, they wouldn't be able to pay the guys on the show for what they do and therefore, they would be struggling to support their family. So idk, maybe they could have done it a better way and not go to a site where you have to pay to subscribe, but you might also have to keep in mind that they need some support in some way to keep going.

  • @ZerotheWanderer

    @ZerotheWanderer

Nah, there's not that many people who use adblock in the grand scheme of things. They used some of their own money and Motortrend's filming equipment to start, said they wouldn't sell out, got sponsored by Dodge (and lots of other manufacturers) for parts (both garage tools and automotive) and continue to push more monetized shit onto their fanbase. Not to mention they're journalists as well, so they get that money and more money from doing Roadkill. They're not hurting for money one bit, they haven't really made better quality things or bought more expensive anything, they don't NEED more money to continue Roadkill, they want more money because a bunch of suckers have more money than brains and will blindly do it. I also don't get why a physical magazine subscription, which requires paper, printing, shipping, etc. runs $20 but an online subscription where everything is digital costs 3x as much. There would be A WHOLE LOT less bitching if MToD was $20 a year, and there'd be over 3x more people buying it at $20 than there is now at $60.

  • @ZerotheWanderer

***** You're still forgetting the whole assembly line of printing machines, all the maintenance and upkeep, shipping (should you have to ship it), etc. Servers can be a lot smaller and way more contained, optimized, and less maintenance if managed right. Even if they were $2 per magazine and the majority of subscriptions are $20 per year, they're losing out on $4 before shipping.

Roadkill is one of the most likeable car shows due to its highly informative content and the upbeat personality of the host. Dealing with real situations that develop with old cars in a self sufficient, and improvised way, and from an extremely expert knowledge base, makes it encouraging and enthusiasm building for those of us who prefer to resuscitate old cars rather than tolerating the disgusting plastic take it or leave it, insultingly irreparable and modification resistant nature of today's disposable cars. They are nothing but slave mobiles, designed to enslave their first two owners and be useless to all subsequent. The computers are probably programmed to cause multiple and accelerating malfunctions after the warranty has expired. Who could prove they're not?

That 3rd gear overdrive thing use to be pretty common in the big rig world. Some were conversions as well which were fairly easy to do. The 15 speeds for example came from factory in direct and overdrive versions where the 4th and 5th gears of the main box would be reversed and you had to do a U shift to go from 3rd to 4th then straight up to 5th. They made that gear pattern by simply swapping 4th with an overdrive gear and leaving the 1:1 alone where it was. Most overdrive versions of many transmissions were made that way.

Dropping in a V8 from the pre-Ford Range Rover would be "in keeping with the heritage", though the engine subframe might be different (get one from Rimmers?). Perhaps a Toyota 1UZ and w58 gearbox? We had one of those Dodge trucks, it was a black w/black and white interior 318/4 speed reg cab/long bed with stepped up topper on the bed, all factory. Mom and I were in a wreck in it over 35 years ago and Dad bought it from the ins. company to fix is, but with how busy he got at work, he ended up just straightening the frame and it sat in the garage with the front clip behind the garage from '81-'03 when we finally had to scrap it. It had the same grill as the copper 318/4 speed truck with the fresh interior, I think the other two stepside trucks with the big, verticle turn signals in the grill were '78 and later, just not sure how much later. Always thought the '76 and older grills just looked better as did the later trucks like that Ramcharger, the upright markers just didn't fit with the rest of lines on those trucks.

These are just daily filler videos. They're nothing special, but worth the 16 cents they equate to out of the $5 monthly charge. On another note; this is actually one of the worst Roadkill Extra videos IMO. The best ones are the indepth looks at some of the Roadkill and background cars that you see in all the Roadkill videos. Things like the Orange Duster, Steve's Charger, and a rare Vietnam-era military Jeep panel truck that David has. Just saying that for the price of a coffee; it's better than anything on cable these days - and alot better than a lot of stuff on KZread.

They can do whatever they want. It's their channel, and the content is FREE. WE'RE NOT ENTITLED TO ANYTHING. Don't like MTOD content, don't watch it. Sponsors are not magical. At the end of the day, they have a massive shop and crew with 4 major shows. All the staff (presenters, camera crew, editors and writers) need to make a decent wage, and the rent for all of their expensive facilities have to be paid. MT is not a cheap operation to run.

Not because he was doing anything illegal, they just loved looking at the thing. It had a 340 V8. that was the inspiration for me getting my 99 all black Tahoe Police package too. i know it's not a Ram Charger so it's not quite the same but CHEVY! +David Freiburger The reason the 3rd and 4th gear positions were swapped on the 833 OD and the A883 OD is that direct drive is achieved by locking the input and output shafts together and allowing the counter shaft to free wheel . On the standard drive models direct drive is 4th gear on overdrive models direct drive is 3rd gear . To maintain the same shift linkage pattern the whole transmission would need to be redesigned .

He's definitely right about hard to find parts. The grille with the marker lights to the side of the headlights (the slant six truck) is a '77. It was a two-three year body style and only '77s and early '78s had the clear park lenses. Glad to see more Mopar and some Fords on Roadkill. Seems like before the Dodge sponsor we had a Chevy bias.

Dodge D100's are brilliant. The body will rot off the frame, but the 318, or 360 with 727 combo will run forever and on used motor oil at that. Just carry a spare ECU and ballast resistor and some fuses in the glove box, GTG mate.

As a current on demand user, I was kind of lamenting the lack of daily content. I only enjoy about half of the shows on on demand, so this certainly makes me happy!

It's to bad MT is turning into another money hungry organization. Seems that in the future Everything will be on MTOD and you'll have to pay for Everything. That's the day I will be saying bye bye.

Military Chevy They're not even making you wait any longer. The videos still come out on YT once a month. Nothing has changed, except that you have the option to pay for early access.

Thanks for the response! I am an avid Ford fanatic (much like the passion Dulcich and yourself share only without the means) and ask "If you were both forced to purchase and upgrade a Ford product with Ford parts for $5,000 or less, what would you build and why?"

I won't subscribe to motor trend on demand. You all make money on KZread alone. I get that you need more to support bills and salaries but really? Maybe 10$ a month would be reasonable. I did the 30 day trial and I was disappointed.

You get $7 per 10000 views (or so I've been told). So 1 million views (which is quite high) only gives $700. This isn't enough to pay everyone's salary, let alone make a profit. Worse, KZread also disallows some content getting any pay, and their actual payout apparently varies: www.digitalmusicnews.com/2015/01/28/songs-got-151781-plays-youtube-received-10/ There is a reason there are ads in these videos. Sponsorship is needed to cover costs.
