    @@kristysarah302 Ah, I see. Do you know the Bible story it's based on? Read John 8:1-11. The poem is this same story with a few differences. We see the mob of "righteous" men abusing their power and judging the adulteress for her sin, but of course they are just being hypocritical as we know. So the poem is dealing with hypocrisy as well as gender issues (we see that the men have power over the woman). Have you watched the video in which I write an essay on this poem? Make sure to check that out. If you still have questions after that, just send me an email!

    Your analysis of the poems are always on point and thorough. I particularly enjoyed this analysis of this poem and the many perspectives that were given. While listening your analysis of Stanza 2 , line 1, I noticed also that another annotation of the way in which the words ' Gas GAS' are written can be made. If observed, the second "GAS" is written quite smaller in the World of Poetry book, than the first "Gas". This can also showcase how much the words spoken, though shouted, hence the use of all capital letters, are actually drowned by the noise of the explosives as they get louder and more intimidating. Always appreciative of the time taken to produce these quality analyses. Keep up the good work as always !

    Hi Sir, I understand that it's been a year and you've answered this question at least twice, however my book has "Of tired, outstripped Five Nines that dropped behind" and I would like to add my views to it in confirmation that I am on the right path. "Of gas shells dropping softly behind" I understand you're reasoning that the soldiers may have been so tired they're couldn't hear the shells, however, "Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind" could you also infer that even with the deduction of the soldiers being so tired they couldn't hear the bombs, the word tired is used to emphasize just how exhausting war is? War is such an exhausting experience that even the bombs are tired of being dropped. Also, five nine refers to a system working 99.999 percent, I'm not sure if this was be directly referred to the poem but if so then I was considering for it to be a foreshadowing of the bomb attack in stanza 2, showing that the five-nines would hit their target almost all the time and at least on person would be affected.

  • @AdamWebbCSEC

    @AdamWebbCSEC

    2 ай бұрын

    These are some interesting and very valid ideas. The exhaustion could certainly be on multiple levels. As for the foreshadowing, you are definitely on to something there.

    @@AdamWebbCSEC Hi Sir, I hope you have recovered well, I would like the thank you for your feedback, unfortunately this poem did not come on the exam yesterday and instead childhood appeared, thank you so much for your videos on those poems and it helped greatly. Unfortunately, I'm going to harass your soul a bit more regarding literature apologies in advance. The two poems that came yesterday was Little Boy Crying and My Parents regarding fear and intimidation in childhood. I understand that in My Parents the child could have feared the children, however, that was more admiration than anything and with Little Boy Crying, the child resented his father for slapping him, he was crying because he was fustrated and hurt . What do these two poems have to do with intimidated fear?
