To me, it looked like his butt hit the turf before the ball was wrestled out. If they called it an interception on the field, I probably wouldn’t overturn it. They should have looked at it in the booth, but it was too close to call in my opinion.

If both players have possession it always goes to the offensive player. Duke didn't have full possession until well after he was down.

And also, that was just one of the many things that happen. Throughout regulation, UNC was getting all they wanted. Plus, when they got their two point conversion, per the reporters, they had a man 5 feet off where he should have been, and it wasn’t called. Terrible.

That officiating was atrocious. INT they didn't review. The 2PT for Duke had as much contact as the four PIs called against Duke. I don't think *any* were PI, but if you called it on those, be consistent.

It wasn't even close to an interception. If both players share possession it always goes to the offensive player. The defender didn't have cleat possession until well after the offensive player was down.

It doesn't matter who leaves the pile with the ball- it's who has possession when the receiver, the defender, or both are deemed to be down. Refs deemed that person in possession to be the Carolina receiver. Right or wrong, that's the call.

@@mikebernhardt4639Which is why they have review, to make such a determination. Nesbit catches the ball and has control when his first foot comes down. Second foot comes down, still in control. But before any other part of his body contacts the ground (and opposing players on the ground count as the ground), Nesbit has only one hand on the ball while the Duke DB has two hands and control. In order, that’s a catch, a fumble, and a recovery by the defense. All of that is obvious in review. But they didn’t review it.

His feet are at around the ½ yard line and his helmet hovers slightly behind or on the goal line by the time the pass leaves the quarterback's hands. LOS is the three-yard line. Ineligible receiver downfield applies if he were beyond the goal line _before_ the pass. By the time he's deep in the end zone, the pass was already thrown and caught. It's possible he thought he did something wrong, but slowing down the game footage shows he's not more than three yards downfield when the QB _releases the ball_ . There's nothing wrong here, the two-point try counts.

For those still debating, that's an INT 100 times out of 100. The receiver must maintain possession to the ground, which he does not because the ball is moving on the way to the ground and is nearly completely out of his hands by the time his butt hits. For comparison, this is nearly identical to Eric Reid's pick against Bama in 2011 at the goalline. The play was upheld on review because the ball was "moving" in the same way.

Both these team were having great years, too bad they fell apart, I rly wish unc could've finished undefeated

Not a Duke fan and not a UNC fan, that was 100% an interception, just watched the replay at 2:20 about 15 times to form my own opinion, watch closely. Number 0 loosens the ball before #18,s butt or knee touched the ground which means the ball is live. Time stamp 2:28-2:32 you can see #0,s arm hugging the ball after taking possession from #18. I’m the SAME time stamp you can see #18 arms FLAILING for the ball. If you have possession of the ball your arms are not flailing/fighting for it. you only fight for a ball that you don’t have possession of. Notice how #0, the one who ACTUALLY had possession of the ball had stiff arms because he was holding it tightly. #0 of Duke intercepted the ball and should have been ruled down immediately. the only reason #26 of Duke walked with it was due to all the extra curricular activities after the play should have been called dead. Again guys, I’m not a Duke fan or UNC fan, I’m actually from alabama, but this is sad. How do you not review such a crucial play? We all know why. Let’s not act funny, college football has honest games that are refereed properly , but they also have games that ARE altered due to blatant bad calls and this was one of them. As a football fan you hate to see it👎🏾 Edit #3- watch the same play at 4:23. Take a look at both defensive lineman for Duke on both ends. UNC got away with 2 blatant holds , BLATANT. I barely watch college, but they seriously need to do some work with officiating. The hell was going on here? Sweet game though, the electricity in that stadium must have been wild.

Since there were many bad calls in that game and that interception wasn't reviewed I feel this game should be replayed. Let the commissioner take a look at the possible INT and other bad calls and see if he decides to let the game be replayed. I feel for the Duke coach of how angry he was for losing that game just because of those bad calls and the officials not reviewing the INT. Same thing happened in a Royals at Yankees game a few decades ago when George Brett hit a home run to lead the game for the Royals in the top of the 9th but got overturned because of possible to much pine tar. That game had to be replayed because the MLB commissioner told them to since the Royals were protesting the game.
