Ellington was completely won over by Strayhorn's fantasies and could conjure them in a way that not even Strayhorn could - a priceless collaboration...
He touches my heart, breaks it and lovingly puts it back together...strong, new & blessed!
bringing jazz and classical music togheter in perfection. The Duke always makes me speechless and brings serenity

Soda fountain.
Each time he plays a piece there is something new and different.
From the opening tickles of Fleurette Africaine, you know you're in for something special. Life stresses dissolve ... like pistachio ice cream under a morning sun.

Took me way too long to really appreciate Duke - But I'm glad I eventually made it. 😊
this and single petal of a rose are my absolute favorite solo piano pieces...the touch and composition - I love his playing
Fleurette Africaine is pure magic, that performance...
Amazing stuff. Father of jazz.
Every single performance is different.
This is amazing. Cheered me up and and made me cry too. Beautiful.

Incredible artistry from this master. As a point of personal irony (& humility), I always thought of Ellington's genius abstractly - associating him with big-band compositions, where I've always preferred small groups & solo music in all forms. Prefer chamber works to symphonies, etc. Was,of course, blindsided by Such Sweet Thunder, immediately bought the vinyl album, mono or no. Wonderful presentation here of his searching, transcendent maturity in presenting the familiar, as if (again, for me) never-before-heard pieces, to not just delight us, but always, make us think about where the hell we are in life - & can we make life more joyous, for all? Thanks to R. in T. & the producers.

Duke Ellington has the secrets of gods!
btw ~ if you don't like this you are wildly out of place commenting on music in The Idiom. This is gorgeous music: another side of Duke ... people forget what a terrific pianist he really is with all the attention focused on his bandleader role.
Thank You for sharing, nowadays people sit in front of their computer getting entertained. Before they sat more in front of their chosen hobby. My saxophone is mostly on the loft, but I play the piano.
