Good to see The videographer back.

I grew up in Allegany County, which is about 90 miles south of Rochester, and sometime in the early 80s, several Amish families moved into the northern part of that county from Pennsylvania. Many of the old farmers in that area were against having Amish move into the county because of old stereotypes about the Amish taking over the land, and many thought Amish don't pay taxes, etc. But Amish pay their share of taxes no different than non-Amish do. It took nearly a decade for the Amish to be accepted as good neighbors and many non-Amish doing business with the Amish, horse farriering, building homes, roofing, barn raisings, etc. They're good people, hard workers, and very honest dealing. Every year, on opening day of Bass season, I drive down to Allegany County to fish in Allen Lake and many Amish will be there fishing as well, and I enjoy visiting with them, and one Amish gentleman, will bring me a homemade apple pie that his wife made. The best pie ever. I wish people would stop with the stereotypes of other races and cultures. It's so disgusting.

I am so happy that KZread was invented! I learn something new everyday day. I am sitting on my couch in Fort Lauderdale, FL on a sunny day with the air conditioner running vicariously watching Jim plow. My grandfather was born on a reservation in OK and moved his family to GA. I can remember him shoeing our horses. Of course the horses were much smaller and not built to pull a plow. Jim is a good teacher and explains what he is doing well. The photographer does a great job. Maybe one day she will get a drone so she can incorporate aerial shots. Thank you guys for providing these teaching videos!!!

I live within only a few miles of Mr. Gordon's farm and sawmill and so love following your videos and learning different aspects that I have no knowledge of. I love seeing how Baron is growing and learning. Andy seems like such a great guy.

Jim how is your friend from Pennsylvania doing that had the wreck? Still praying for them, I know that was very hard one them, also know you were looking forward to having the horse for work this summer! God bless all, and hope they are doing okay!

That was such a tragedy losing a great draft horse like that. Really sad. I also hope Jim's friend and his wife are still doing well from that accident. I know it was heartbreaking for them having to put down Luke (Percheron) for a broken back as a result of the accident.

You could make a overflow drain on the water tank and dig in some drain tile and get the water down the pasture a ways.

Nice to see Brenda back. I just think you are so good at filming, Brenda that I love the views you can get when Jim is plowing and I find your pacing of the video and editing just makes it enjoyable to put my feet up and take a break.

So with your horses Jim, is easy to gauge a straight furrow..by keeping the wheel of the plow. Moving strait in the furrow . Or is it all depending on your horse on the left side…

Andy is super fast. I would definitely throw my business to Andy's Super Trim. Self-sufficiency is a demand of any Amish man. Andy displays that quality well. Jim has a great neighbor. I would love to see Andy's horses sometime.

Welcome home Brenda! ..glad you're back..( you are much better at filming than Jim)..shhh..don't tell him I said that😊..he did well considering all he had to juggle..I have no problem with Amish..I give them as much work as I can a d usually shop in their businesses before I go elsewhere..please thank Andy for the awesome work on the babies' hooves and for not shying away from the camera..just as in any culture there are good people with a few sour apples thrown in..but all in all most are extremely good people..as always prayers and blessings

I really wonder sometimes what Duke and Earl are saying to one another when they see their buddies working. Are they teasing them? Are they champing at their buts ready to work themselves? They just look SO CURIOUS though! Comical!

Lady looks good and so do the colts

I have a large roof like that on my house and garage, with sometimes 2+ feet of snow load, and have never had a problem as far as the gutters go in the 20 years since they were installed. The snow slides right off on a continuation of the slope of the roof and shoots right out over the top of the gutters. A real heavy rain will overshoot the gutters as well.

Putting baron in the furrel good way to teach him to pull straight good job

Your horse pedicure is our trim. Then we have a shift, which is remove, trim, reset the same shoes. Every second shoeing they might need new shoes, maybe those big pulling shoes last a lot longer, get a few shifts out of them. The most costly part of horse keeping. I can hear the swallows are all excited about spring too, time to build. Greetings from Australia.

If you go to we’re they sell items for roofing they should have things to help keep the snow from sliding off ask about it tell them what you want them for Jim l called my son years ago he worked on roofs he said what the things that keep the snow from falling off the roof is called snow birds you can also with a long roof get what is called snow boards god bless you and your beautiful wife

Earl has some really good looking feet with some amazing frogs. Actually, both colts have really good feet. Earl did really well in the stocks. How tall are they getting to be now? About 16 hands? Wow, Baron is being able to be hitched without being tied now? Great job! He wasn't perfect, but for as young and green as he is, he did really well. The change I really notice in Baron is that he looks like he is starting to enjoy his work. He is starting to muscle up and be able to keep up. I think Kenny being slow makes it a bit easier on him, since he's shorter. I think Kenny is more of a leader than Bill, and that makes Baron more confident. I also think he is starting to understand what is expected of him and be comfortable with it. He seems happier in the furrow, surprisingly, maybe because he has a clear line to follow. I really notice how he is carrying his head and his ears, which is what I associate with a horse being content and happy with what he is doing. If he could whistle, he'd ben whistling while he works.

Hey Brenda!!! It's so good to see you back home!🥰 It's so cute seeing Duke and Earl at the fence line watching you plow! It looked like Baron did a good job plowing today with Kenny. Whether doing field work or logging, which of those jobs do you think Baron is doing the best at this point of his training? Since Buck's passing and Lady being on "maternity leave", it seems like Baron is catching on fast doing the various jobs!!!! I'm enjoying watching him progress as I've never gotten to see a draft horse being trained.

I've nevah shawed a hoof. I was lead to think the frog was fragile. How do ya know how much to trim off?.😅 Earl n Duke where so good. I like your stocks. Every barn should hv one 😂 ty for teaching us more all about th pedi's😅 kitties aren't meowing.😊 You must b petting them more😊 ty Bren for filming.❤ Hope your gutter works gr8. The draft horses I used to raise and train a little kid could pick up their feet and hold them. I took the time to properly train them and did not need any kind of stocks.

With training oxen, I got then used to having their feet lifted and held held before they were completely weaned. Teaching them at a young age is best. You can't train an old dog new tricks. They need their feet inspected often.

Andy 50 years later,,,,,, teaching some young guys how to trim hooves. Jim taught me to use "stocks". It saved my back back then!

Those gutters look great, but they seem to be to low. I don't see them catching moderate to heavy rain. I could be wrong.

It'd be interesting to see how farrier tools are made and sharpened. The dirt and mud has to be hard on them.

I built a set of stocks just like yours about 15-20 years ago and ended up having to sell them when my parents sold the farm. I just ordered the tubular steel to weld up a new set of stocks based on my own design with adjustable hoof rests which will hopefully improve user friendliness when it comes to working. For the barn gutters, I'd suggest using white oak and incorporating it into a new fascia board, what you are essentially fabricating is a wooden water trough and screwing it into the rafter tails, then using sheet metal strapping to strap it to the roof through the sheeting every 24 inches, this will help the sheets of snow slide off over the edge without ripping off the trough. Use heavy deck screws or grk screws to prefab the trough sections. You should get 20 years out of the oak. Flimsy aluminum won't last 2 years if it comes off one snowy day when 10 tons comes hurtling down at once. If I lived near you I'd be glad to build a test section to demonstrate lol I don't think after 48 years I'd ever get used to rolling a furrow over the wrong way to the left side, just a mental block

First of all I know very little about horses. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen the underside of a horse hoof. The way y’all dig in the hoof looks like it would hurt the horse, but I know you and Brenda love your horses, so I know you wouldn’t hurt them. Did that young man go to school to learn his trade? He surely makes quick work of it.😊❤

Between storms, especially during the summer, lots of bacteria flourish on the roof thanks to bird droppings. I could be wrong here, but I don't think that using runoff directly from the roof to water the horses is a good idea.

In Deutschland haben wir Schneegitter auf den Dächern. Das ist eine Art niedriger Zaun, in dem der Schnee hängenbleibt. Das hat den Vorteil, daß die Dachrinne nicht abgerissen wird und Schneeplatten nicht auf den Kopf fallen. Liegt der Schnee höher, als das Schneegitter ist, rutscht er mit Schwung über die Dachrinne und reißt sie nicht ab. Wenn der Schnee schmilzt, bleibt er im Gitter hängen und das Wasser fließt in die Dachrinne. Vielleicht bringst du auch Schneezäune auf den Scheunendächern an, damit die Dachrinnen nicht abreißen? Ich habe auch schon gesehen, daß anstatt eines Gitters ein Baumstamm verwendet wurde, der mit eisernen Schellen am Dach befestigt wurde. Schlecht zu schätzen, vielleicht 20 bis 25 ? cm Durchmesser. Da ich ein schlechter Beobachter bin, habe ich nicht gesehen ob ihr am Wohnhaus bereits solche Schneegitter verwendet.

That furrow looks so perfectly straight, wow. Where your ground got too much compressed you might consider planting alfalfa. Its roots decompress the ground. Wishing you all a wonderful evening! 😊-Chris
