I’ve seen long distance runners wrap their feet in duct tape to cover up painful blisters, sores etc... It would be a real life saver if you needed it.

It, along with most other tapes, makes a good fire starter. I lay out a piece about 6" and put other combustionals like sparklers, trick birthday candles that wont blow out, cat tail fuzz magnesium shavings etc then fold the top back over. seal it tight and when ready to use just make a cut and fluff out the insides.

@@SensiblePrepper you can get a new stock by taking it to a wood working shop and have a new one made then have a gun Smith put it on. Most likely they will have someone they have used to make new stocks.

Most things I've used it for, I've found the Gorilla tape to be significantly stronger, especially when exposed to the weather.

Saw this good idea somewhere on KZread: instead of carrying the big roll, take a useless credit card or stiff plastic the same size and wrap the duck tape around it carefully. Put as much on the wrap as you wish. Now you'll have a flat pack of duck tape for your BOB, glove box, EDC kit, etc. I've done this and it works.

That's precisely how I carry duck tape in my camping survival kit - used an old store "VIP" card, wrapped a couple of metres of tape around it, stuck it in a small resealable plastic bag to stop it picking up random crud from my pockets.

Wrap several turns of duct tape around your water bottle instead of carrying the roll.

I started out in the air conditioning business at age 17. Did construction (installation) work for a few years before graduating to service. Forever cutting your hands and fingers on sheet metal. We used duct tape with no cloth against the wounds. Pressure kept bleeding at a halt and I never knew anyone to get an infection. Worked like a champ. And we're talking about the 60s here. There were times I SHOULD have gotten stitches. Nobody ever claimed young guys are too bright. But with duct tape holding the wound together healing took place. May take a week before you can leave the duct tape off, but it WORKED.

Use the inner cardboard roll to start fires, OR remove the cardboard entirely so the tape can be pressed flat to fit into a small part of your pack. -Molon Labe

Used it on a DVD remote control to cover up most of the buttons that are never used. Made things a lot easier for my old Mom.

After watching Adam and Jamie on Mythbusters build an entire functioning boat and rope bridge out of this stuff I'm convinced there's nothing you can't do with it.

That Gorilla tape is excellent, it works better for me than standard duct tape. It will even give you an airtight seal if applied correctly.

Pouch, container, shoes, hammock, tarp.

I know someone hunting rats in a junkyard once. One rat ran up his pants leg. Until the Olympics hold an official event I maintain he has the world record for getting out of his pants quickest. Everyone else stood around pounding on his pants shouting "Save his pants! Save his pants!"

You could fashion a temp water container or bowl i imagine.

That's actually pretty easy. Find something cylindrical, like a log for example. Wrap duct tape around the log, sticky side out, long enough to overlap and stick together. If you need a larger container overlap another strip or more to increase the size. Put strips on the end, also sticky side out to form a bottom. Then go over it again with more strips sticky side in (I would cover the bottom first so the extra bands of tape help hold it on). If you want a handle, double one strip of tape and place it up one side and down the other (bent around the log of course, but straight on the container) before placing the second layer of Duct tape. It's a great makeshift bucket and pretty long lasting.

Great practical and informative video. It’s the little things that will become the most frustrating to deal with when the shtf. Planning ahead and stocking up on duct tape and other useful items while times are good just makes sense. Great advice here! Thanks!

(1) Roll it into a stick to make a candle. (2) Use it for tinder (maybe rip it up small first). (3) Wrap it around a ferro rod for a handle (and extra tinder, if you don't want to grind off a pile of shavings from the ferro rod- wither pile of tinder can be used to light the duct tape candle, as well as a regular one). (4) Repair clothes (putting it on the inside to keep it from showing). (5) Layer it over a cardboard box for waterproofing/repellancy. (6) Reinforce a space blanket (whatever kind) the same way. (7) Make a bowl with it. Never saw it done, but I suppose you'd just make two "mats" (by putting a bunch of them next to each other, but one "mat" goes in a different direction from the other) & put the sticky sides together, then wrap a piece around the top edge section to make it round & hold it in that shape. (8) Supposedly boats can be made with it & I'd imagine it's done the same way as the bowl. (9) Wrap it around something to make a handle. Line it up so the ridges catch against your hand while using the tool. (10) Makeshift stitches. Kind of mentioned in the video, but you could put a piece of tape right over the cut (this might cause quite a bit of swelling, as the blood can't escape) or use smaller pieces like steri-strips. Either way, it would probably aggravate the wound when you went to pull it off, so I'd suggest putting whatever you want on the cut & putting a bandage over that, then use the duct tape as a "tensioner" over all that. Peroxide or any strong alcohol helps with getting it off your skin & works as a disinfectant, anyway.

This is a comment about duct and Gorilla tape. The cable to one of my car's backseat power windows broke, and after getting the glass back up, a guy taped it closed with duct tape. That only worked for a little while, then my son used Gorilla tape. It lasted over a year until he had to remove it, and re-seal it closed with some fresh Gorilla tape. It's also been on for over a year and I probably won't need to replace it for at least another 3-4 months.

That improvised knife spear is brilliant!

One of our grandkids came to the farm without shoes. We made shoes for him. Turned the tape glue side out and then another row out. He could take them off and played all weekend with them. We started taping the kids and letting them get out by themselves. They loved it. even taped them to the lawn furniture. Hours of fun.

Here are some more uses: 1. It makes a very good torch when wrapped thickly around a stick (even if toxic) 2. An easy way to pluck the feathers off of wild fowl 3. Make a net for fish and also it's a good cordage for traps 4. Improvised shoulder and knee pads Also, I highly recommend that you check out the Mythbusters Duct Tape Special. Very entertaining. :)

Great video brother, my hoses in in truck was all taped up for 2 years, I just forget about it and the truck ran perfectly fine.

It would almost be easier to make a list of things duct tape CAN'T be used for rather than things it CAN.

Rat traps. Shoe laces. Dog leashes. Fishing line. Regrip for gun. Just some duck tape ideas that I've used.

You can tie one end of ducktape to a tree and the other end to a stick then spin the stick till you make strong rope

You can make a pretty good dry-bag with duct tape. Just overlap strips about 8"-12" long, until you get a layer about 2'-2.5' long. Then repeat, layering the sticky side of the strips together. Trim it to clean it up, then fold it in half to make a bag, by taping the seams together, overlapping as you go. There are variations, where you can add a duct tape strap to the bag or, instead of folding it in half, only fold it by 3/4 -- this will create a flap to close off the top, without using any additional tape. This is good for collecting and storing lots of small items, like food, paper, etc., that you do not want to get wet.

As a "Certified Duct Tape Wizard", I agree, there are a myriad of uses for this essential prep. The combination of quality duct tape and high millage polyethylene sheeting can provide many necessary and useful items in an emergency. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Don, in a SHTF situ, I would also use duct tape as cover for my lens on my flashlight so people didn't see my illumination, but still enable me to have enough of a light hole coming through. Hope this is ok?

Great video! I used duct tape for my radiator hose last week lol. I made a notepad holder out of duct tape months ago. I fill it with scrap paper cut to size and use a small binder clip to hold the sheets in.

Sootch I think you need to watch "The Red Green Show" Red Green has come out with uses for duct that have impressed me in a lot of ways. Even though it's a comedy show, he really show the many uses for Duct Tape.

SHTF use for duct tape: lashing or cordage. If you roll your tape width ways with a long enough length, you can create temporary cordage or "string" to replace boot laces or secure items that need a lanyard etc... I used to use duct tape or electrical tape to fasten webbing or strapping in BCT. God only knows how much of a pain in the ass all that extra strapping on our gear was. when u melt duct tape it can make like and epoxy and u can use it to patch up bottles, tents, ponchos etc and then all you do is lick your finger and wipe it to seal it off

It can also be used to repair clothing to prevent it from further ripping apart. I helped with the clean up after the flood in germany this summer, and the old pants i wore ripped on the first day. So I wrapped the leg up with duct tape and replaced it every few days. It worked fine and I didn´t have to worry about my pants getting damaged further.

A good heavy duty Swingline staple gun with several sizes of staples can mend up wood, upholstery, carpet etc, ,even light metals and screen. Attachment for heavy tarpaulins also.I love this tool. A push -pull drill can’t hurt either.

Great video! I wrap my feet in duct tape under my socks to give my feet and legs extra support. I got this tip from a book on Disney World, that states runners use it. I confirmed it with a cousin who runs professionally, and it does help to reduce does feet pain and leg fatigue when walking a lot.

Don't forget reinforcing the areas you puncture making cover with trash bags or even the grommets on tarps. Trash bags rip easily in wind or even with the weight of water collected on top of shelter, reinforcing the tie down points helps prevent that and running a strip of duct tape down the center of the bag helps keep it from stretching too much. The tape acts as a ridge line.

I was at one airsoft millisim a few years back where my duct tape was used to fix my friend's ripped sleeping bag, the same friend's ripped trousers some other guy's boot (the sole had come loose). I also used it to fix a ripped poncho and a snapped tent pole and to fix various minor leaks at other events. Duct tape is useful.

When using it to slow a leak in a radiator hose it's good to leave the radiator cap just on the 1st notch...a little loose so it doesn't build pressure.

Man i just love your videos. Unfortunatelly in Brazil Gorilla Tape and Duck Tape are really expensive items. But we've got some other tapes (not as good as Gorilla and Duck) that we can improvise. Anyway, just to tell you i think your instructions and review videos great. Tks.

It's also a great liner, I seen some holes starting in one of backpack so I cut strips of duct tape and lined the inside, its now reinforced and its weather resistant.

Had to hang temporary privacy curtain recently. Had 6ft pole, used duct tape to make tabs at each end of the pole and nailed tabs to the wall. Worked great.

On a side note, I see many people online using cardboard for an expedient sheath material. In a pinch, this will work, of course, but paper fibers are a nightmare for a good edge. I have had to improvise a few sheaths on knives I've made in the past and what I've found works best is to use plastic (I've used material from office trash cans to plastic coffee cans). I start with a couple of spiral wraps of electrical tape to "form" it snugly around the blade, then follow it up with gorilla tape and finally a ranger band or two (I use them for storing snare wire, fishing kit, etc.). So far, I've not had one fail in two years and I wear them everyday. Just a tip from a fellow "MacGyver". B-)

also if you have to put tape onto something you know you'll have to remove, take the tape, and run it across your jeans; that pulls lint that will help you remove it easier. (also works for clear and masking tapes!) And don't forget it comes in different widths. I've used the silver (chrome one) while camping.

For when times get really tough it's really handy in making a good noose.

I used Gorilla tape this week to patch a hole in my neighbor's car tire. I cut of about 6 inches from the roll and cut it in little strips of about 1/8 in. I rolled the strips to form a cord and with a screw driver stuff the duct tape cord into the hole and, amazingly, the tire held the air long enough for her to get to a tire shop.

As a Canadian this video really reminded me of Red Green. Ducktape fixes everything!
