That's why he opened with the 80,000 yen price. They don't expect anyone to take the service at 80,000 yen, they offer the discount to everyone, and put on the show to make the discount feel special. It's a basic sales technique called anchoring. It establishes the idea that that's what your product is actually worth, so when they offer the second, lower, but still possibly ridiculous price, it sounds, if not reasonable, like a deal you would be stupid to miss. That's why shops will put items permanently on sale - people like the idea that they're getting a good deal. (It's illegal to do because you're technically lying, thus commiting fraud, but a little fraud has never stopped a business from trying to makke more money) If you meet someone pulling this shit, just call someone else.

That high price has nothing to do with the amount of time he spent on his work, what do you expect locksmith to be paid hourly? Put that aside, if they didnt already tell her the price before, sounds like an intentional scam

Locksmith and any kind of service that not include you to make an appointment before should be paid higher and be appriciated, if the company giving out estimated prices sounds like a scam when they give you a high price that you needed to pay afterwards given the low time they need to do the actual lockpicking works, but the actual scam is when they dont tell you the estimated price since they can just bullshit their way to prosperity, and dont expect them to be paid hourly becuse the skills and the topls needed cant be obtained without any special training.

There is no reason for you if you want to attack my argument, you dont even have any lockpicking skills whatsoever the only reason why they able to help you when you needed them is because they charged a high price for their unusual works of service

While I agree that special services should absolutely be paid highly, 80, 000 yen is ridiculous for that service. There should be a limit, as with anything else. That service is typically 100 to 200usd dollars in most places in the world. For 80, 000 yen I can break the door down and have it replaced completely and still save some money (I've had to do this before).
