Walking twenty-five mile days is like running a marathon (26.2 m) every day. That is amazing. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Basically trying and failing to run a marathon every day going far too slow and carrying too much weight :)

We just built that shelter about 4 years ago. A lot of the trail in the mud is slowly getting moved to new built single track. Shooting for a 100 mile backpacking destination in a couple years.

Those striped mosquitoes seem to be far more aggressive than others. Beautiful trail! Very nice oyster mushrooms on the downed log.

Again with the "just in time" rain management! Well done! And nice of you to give your new shoes their baptism in mud. Hope it was less slippery given the new tread. Nice to see green forest to walk in, despite the mud, and not just road walk all the time. Alternate a bit . . Hike on! Tortoise

That umbrella was a stroke of genius. You certainly tax your skills carrying assorted things in your hands back, waist, balancing on the ever changing terrain.Amazing fellow thou art.Too bad new shoes have to get all wet and muddy on the first few days of wear.

Realy beautifull video! A happy Matt , varied terrain , lush forrest and salamanders for Taters. Ohio is a lot like my hometurf (Europe) : same terrain , same rain , same mud . Don't think to much about your mileage . I do about the same daily mileage as you but when there is mud it can be half of that. Wrenched my knee some days ago sliding into a mudhole (10 inches deep ) , so take care and go slow . Keep it up.

Unfortunately, I can’t just not think about my mileage and have any reasonable expectation of making my goal. I try not to go neurotic about it, but I do need to be consistently pushing miles.

I bought new balance a lot, when they were still made in the usa (which started 1978 and ended about 2010). But surprisingly, they still fit well for people with wide toes.

They don’t feel quite as wide as the Altra toe box but they’re the best I’ve found. Second pair seems to be holding up

That leaking natural gas smell is always disconcerting. Hard to know if it is a leak or just natural. I've hiked by a stream where you could actually see it bubbling up. Those yellow butterflies are gross, because you'll see them hanging out on a pile of horse dung (trail apples). Nice little shelter.

Very nice video with you going through the forest. That last water source should have been ok since there didn’t appear to be much industry, development or agriculture in that area. Unless you didn’t show it on the video. Ohio seems to be a lot more pleasant experience than West Virginia so far. -Geo

It is often hard to tell. Mines are sometimes shown on Topamax sometimes not. And if the stream goes for any length, I don’t know if it’s houses around the corner, roads, and asphalt plant.

90$ for shoes. Must be at least the same for a hotel if you need extra zeros because your feet hurt so much. So financially might work out to equal if you get shoes more often.

Going forward we’re going to replace them at 4:50 to 500. Here it was a combination of not knowing how long they last and be delays getting them to me. Honestly, I still needed that Parkersburg zero even if I hadn’t been having some additional foot pain.
