DUCHESS OF IDAHO is an American musical romantic comedy by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It's directed by Robert Z. Leonard, it stars Esther Williams and Van Johnson in their fourth film pairing, also stars John Lund and Paula Raymond. It was filmed at the MGM Studios lot and exteriors shot in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Ellen Hallet (Paula Raymond) is in love with her playboy boss, Douglas Morrison Jr. (John Lund), but too timid to do anything about it. Her roommate Christine (Esther Williams) devises a plan to help her: she follows Morrison on his trip to Sun Valley, Idaho and plays the overattentive female, hoping he'll send for Ellen, who often plays his "fiancée" when he has a female he can't discourage otherwise. Complications arise when Chris catches the eye of band leader Dick Layn (Van Johnson) and lands in a love triangle with the two men.
