Ducati Multistrada 1260 / Akrapovic Slip-On / Dominator Midpipe

Ultimately I wanted to see if the $180 Dominator midpipe was any good. I could have bought the full Akrapovic Titanium Headers or one of the other more expensive midpipes but I was willing to take a gamble on the Dominator... and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Not much information out there on this specific midpipe so I thought I would turn it into a review / semi how-to video with some before and after footage.

Thanks for posting your video. I have a Mivv full system but was bored and bought this mid pipe. I’ve found the sizing for the inlets was way too tight. The outlet sizing was also bad. The very end was 54mm but it was not consistent. After installing and riding the sound was good but fuel consumption was crazy. Most concerning was the power loss. Mivv full system back in place and dominator pipe retuned.

Interesting. That has not been my experience at all. Mine still surprises me every time I ride it. Mivv makes a great product though so no surprise it's giving you good results.

Thank you for putting this video together. Lots of good info aside from the install. I have a 2016 DVT PP, and now looking into some mid-pipe options. Tune aside, I think for the price this is a good option to experiment with, but I may end up putting the trigger on an Akra full titanium pipe (header-back). It's $1K though, and $150 sure feels better on the wallet! Regardless, it looks like the 2015-2017 DVT's are an anomaly for tuning, with little option other than Rapid Bike as a piggyback system, or a Termi system + Ducati Racing map (which I can't get anymore in California). So we're stuck with piggy back setups, and whatever exhaust option fits. My ideal is an SC-Project CR-T with Akra pipes, but we'll see. Thanks for the video!

*editing because I replied as I was eating lunch and was kind of short. You're welcome! Yeah, install was pretty straightforward. I had the exact same thoughts on the Akra headers but like I said in the video I was willing to take a chance for 180 bucks or whatever it ended up being. Very much so not disappointed. I would highly recommend the dominator. For the price of the Akra you could also order the Brentune device which imo is far superior to a piggyback system... and between the two you'd still be less than the cost of the Akra headers. If you dig in to the install and have questions feel free to reach out. It was super simple, especially since the o2 sensors didn't need to come out. Six bolts total getting the cat out and that's including the three front header bolts.

@@alex_theviking Can't get much simpler than that install! I don't think the Brentune system works on the 2015-2017 DVT's, only 2018+ but I can reach out and see. Right now it will cost $1300 for the Akra pipe, and that's assuming I could even just use my stock PP Termi slip-on, which I'm not sure about, and another $600+ for a proper slip-on if the Termi doesn't fit. So yeah, $180 feels pretty darn good for not taking a gamble!

nice setup! I have a 2018 1260 pikes peak, it came with the Termi, then I did a cat delete and added an arrow mid pipe. It's super loud and pops a lot on when I let off the throttle. Do you experience a lag when you really get on it at low revs? a kind of surge. Last year I got a Rexxer tune which I think helped a little with it. Was considering getting the Akra pipe as the Termi is pretty much just straight through. Does the Akra have much baffling?

Hey thanks! The Akra has an optional dB killer which I keep installed most of the time. It helps quite a bit, especially at low speeds. I've heard from quite a few people that the termi is useless with a cat delete. I'd definitely look at getting a different slip on. As far as a surge, haven't experienced anything like that. Mine runs incredibly smooth and pulls like crazy. Very happy with the setup still.

Hey man! Great video, helped me take a decision if i should buy the decat from dominator or not. Quick question tho because i see a lot of mixed oppinions, if i use the stock exhaust with the dominator decat and the servi buddy, do i still need a remap or smth? Not just for the check engine but just to make sure the bike works as intended. Thanks a lot!

One of the big reasons I felt comfortable not tuning the bike with the Akra slipon is because the Akra website says it's not necessary. I don't think that data exists for the stock can. My opinion would be - I don't recommend it. It's going to be way too loud and that can is specifically designed to be used with the catalytic converter that's attached to it from the factory. Hope that helps!

I had the dominator midpipe installed along with the stock exhaust a few months back at a Ducati Service garage. They used the eliminator fuse to prevent any dashboard errors and mentioned making adjustments for optimal fuel consumption and map curves. Surprisingly, the sound turned out to be much louder than I anticipated. Despite a smooth riding experience, I didn't detect any significant increase in horsepower or torque. One noticeable aspect is the exhaust's roar when throttling down, suggesting it's trying to release more than the end silencer can handle. In the future, I'm considering upgrading to an aftermarket silencer, possibly QD.

I like to straight pipe my bikes, but I go about it differently. I cut open the standard silencer box. take out all the emissions stuff and put a perforated straight pipe inside. weld it up. That way, it looks standard for the police. The whole box acts as a silencer. I get a deep baritone sound. not too loud and the horsepower gain. result.

Thanks! It's been fantastic honestly. Just had it on a weekend road trip and it performed flawlessly. I never got it tuned, no tuner, and don't think I will anytime soon. It really runs great as-is. As for the termi, that end can is really just there for decoration. Most of the exhaust properties are contained in the cat/midpipe on your bike. As some of the other guys commenting have noted it'll be incredibly loud and basically just sound like it's straight piped. No nice exhaust note to speak of. If you want to try something less expensive I'd probably give the Dominator end can a try. If the quality is as good as the midpipe it'll do great. One of the other guys in here did a Mivv and said he's happy with it. Whatever you do, make sure to get the dongle I linked for the O2 sensor thing. I will say though, the Akra has not disappointed. Sounds incredible the way have it set up.

It's the Evotech model. Purchased from Motovation.com - can't say enough good things about them. Install instructions are on the Evotech website. I'll ink those too. Just a quick note though - it's designed to take the stock turn signals. I originally ordered a set of Rizomas to mount on it but could not find an adapter that worked. I ended up taking a chance on some Ducati Performance signals on eBay that looked like they might fit into the stock housing. Bought those, but had to do a small modification to get them to work. Wasn't difficult but definitely wasn't plug and play either. So if you're looking to do aftermarket signals... just something to think about. Did you install the servo buddy module in the right location? There are two plugs in the same location that it will fit. The easier one to get to is the wrong one. It has to be the plug that's tucked under the frame and under the other wiring. Also, if you started the bike after installing the pipe but before plugging in the servo buddy that could trigger the light. Edit... Just saw your second comment. How do you like the exhaust?

Did you ever follow through with Bren Tuning? I have a '18 1260 S with a full Leo Vince (mid pipe / cat delete and carbon exhaust). I went with the Bren Tuning and can definitely tell a difference. The stock map runs ok. I doubt it is dangerously lean, but it doesnt idle as good and also if I pull the clutch so RPMs drop quickly the bike will stall or come close to stalling. Not a problem with the Bren Tuning. Also, the butt dyno feels like it makes more power, however given the power of the 1260 in stock form, I'm almost never in a situation where I use the supposed 10hp bump. Just wanted your thoughts if you went the Bren Tuning route.
